OptimusWolf 07-31-2007, 09:29 AM Imran Khan - good pick, he was an inspiring sportsman, much better than Botham, I don't like him one little bit.
eazy_mas 07-31-2007, 10:57 AM in british sence i going to pick Lewis Hamlition this year he deserved the title instead of Hatton.
As whole british history i was amazed by James Bettie a formula one drivers in the WW2
OptimusWolf 07-31-2007, 11:11 AM I actively dislike Hamilton - there's something about him I just don't find appealing. Formula 1 drivers in general come across as pricks. I'd say the same for Button.
This wasn't supposed to be a British thread, it's just that the limey lounge is by far the best place for non-US sports discussion.
I know nothing about US sports such as baseball and American football. Basketball is truly a world sport but personally I don't really care for it.

What a guy. He's been a great manager for the wednesday so far. He's firm but fair, and the fans like him. He's a friendly guy and knows his stuff.
I knew he played for Forrest for quite a time, is he not forgotten down at your place then?

I like Ricky Hatton as a person but not as a fighter I am more of a Mayweather fan :D
I respect him as a fighter but people must respect every fighter it no good being an internet warrior because boxing is a hard sport and to reach this level of competiton you need to work hard for it.

No greatest sportsman (british) is complete without Nigel Mansell, just look at that pimping moustache.
mickeyb 07-31-2007, 06:42 PM I like Ricky Hatton as a person but not as a fighter I am more of a Mayweather fan :D

Legend. He was loved at Forest for his total commitment. We Had Great Back 4 then. Laws, Walker, Chettle, Pearce.
We fukin hate the blades too!!

I am a boxing fan more than Hatton or Mayweather fan and love to see good boxing and something I could learn.
But I respect the fighters no matter what they do. Because reaching to that level of competition is really hard.

OptimusWolf 08-01-2007, 07:40 AM Forgot to say, Haye is my favourite current British fighter. I like Calzaghe as well, it's just boring waiting 18 months for a decent fight after Lacy....
can I also mention Cloughie, his autobiography is the funniest sports book I've read.
Gavin Hastings - hahaha. I remember watching some old tape of him on espn classic and he was quicker than I gave him credit for.
Gotta love sergio, my favourite golfer as well.
Higgins, you've got to be joking, is it patriotism laddie, cos I can't stand that furrowed brow. My favourite snookerer is Hendry, who I'm guessing you dislike!

There is no doubt that Hendry is the far superior player, but i like Higgins' personality more.
mickeyb 08-01-2007, 08:05 AM I've seen more life in a tramps vest in comparison to Hendry. He's a miserable twat.
He's not the only one.. the person in snooker i hate the most HAS to be Peter Ebdon. If ****ing grates me that he calls himself "the clown" yet there is nothing remotly ****ing entertaining about him.
OptimusWolf 08-01-2007, 08:07 AM haha, I love the longevity of Hendry and the break building he has - I don't mind his personality, although he has a very sour face I agree.
I guess I like hendry for the play rather than the personality. I can't stand O'sullivan, he's a talented prick who has achieved so much less that he should have.

I've met O'Sullivan actually! and Steve Davis! (one of the joys of Sheffield holding the World Championships is that you often seem them walking around).
Both seemed really nice blokes. I know what you mean about Ronny.. at the end of the day, he's won nearly everything once, is one of the most popular figures and will proberbly be regarded as the greatest ever.. (perhaps the Ali of snooker?). Some would say its not his fault, that he has a few demons.
Hendry is great player...but i just look at him and get depressed.
Jimmy The Gent 08-01-2007, 12:56 PM There is no doubt that Hendry is the far superior player, but i like Higgins' personality more.
He's stopped his drinking now, but he was a bit wild with the drinking after his first world title

Haha.. i reckon the world of snooker is pretty wild though. Some of the most roughest things i've seen have happened in snooker halls.
You've got Ronnie snorting coke and drowning himself in ale whilst Jimmy White does the same and hangs out with the Rolling Stones. Whilst they're hero Alex Higgins is the biggest drunk of them all, running around headbutting officials etc. (that cunt looks nearly dead now... poor old bastard.)
Then again, if i practiced snooker for 8 hours a day for 7 days a week, i'd go snooker loopy too.
Jimmy The Gent 08-01-2007, 07:08 PM Its like darts a pub game, theres always a bar never far from your area of practise
Jimmy The Gent 08-01-2007, 07:09 PM Although gives like Ronnie,Ken Doherty are remarkably skinny
eazy_mas 08-02-2007, 12:55 PM Lance Amstrong is one heck of a sportsman
Jimmy The Gent 08-02-2007, 01:01 PM Lance is the closest thing to Superman in sport
eazy_mas 08-02-2007, 01:11 PM Lance is the closest thing to Superman in sport
he did it after he got cancer and that is more inpirational than ever
