Some people who have an appreciation, or supposed appreciation of art, stand around and pay mega dollars for sculptures of old TV parts stuck together, or paintings that are basically three splashes of colour on a canvas.

The rest of us have no idea of the attraction.

Are they super intelligent? Or just Super retarded?

for your consideration...

I'm not a fan of modern art. I think it's pointless.

I enjoy classical art more.

As for the thing in the picture, it's hard to tell what it is, or what it's made of. I find it quite intriguing though.

I think MOST modern art (especially painting) is an excuse for non-artists to call themselves artists. How much skill does it take to paint a piece of canvas blue and put a single red dot of paint in the middle? None at ****ing all.

Oh, and that ball sculpture is pretty cool - something like that still take a lot of skill to create.

That's exactly how I feel. I can draw pretty good, but there almost no place for my style of art right now, its all those splashes of paint on canvas selling the big bucks. That pisses me off.

Some friends of mine are modern artists who sell enough of their work to make a living on. They make sculptures out of casts of plants, flowers, pieces of wood and the human body. They did a few sculptures using the casts of parts of my body which they used to make trees :) . The sculptures are in the yard of a university. I got some pictures although they aren't very clear.
Here's one of the entire sculpturegroup. The main sculpture has a real tree in the centre and the smaller ones are attached to real trees. The pictures were taken 3 years ago and the trees have grown a lot and have become one with the sculptures as the artists intended.

Here's one of the main sculpture with me standing next to it:
http://image1ex.villagephotos.com/1229190.jpg
They used casts of my arms for the branches and casts of my back for the trunk. My shin and feet were used for the roots.
Here's one of another statue with the artists standing in the background. In this one (exhibited in a museum of modern art) they used parts of my shoulders, arms and chest but in this sculpture they are not recognizeable as human parts anymore.

http://image1ex.villagephotos.com/1818935.jpg

I like the way they use existing shapes to create new ones.

Yes, Maarten draws and paints and Liet is a sculptor. Here's some info on them: http://www.absolutearts.com/cgi-bin/news/arts-news-elaborate.cgi?output_number=20&find=3504 . This article is about the exhibition they had in the museum (the picture with them in the background).

"My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question 'What does that mean'? It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable."
