Ace Rockolla 07-13-2007, 12:03 AM I'm upset, I was looking to get into a debate and I thought this was gonna be a legimiate argument for UFC. Some of his "points" were so ridiculous I'm pretty sure he was trying to embarass himself:
"Boxing is only popular in the United States, not overseas."
"Boxers only come from a few weight divisions."
"Boxing fans only watch fights because everyone else is watching them."
I hope this guy isn't the best the UFC has to offer.

Froch You 07-13-2007, 12:09 AM Since when did Joachim Noah become a MMA lover:lol1:
EMPOROAR 07-13-2007, 12:10 AM The guy doesn't know his ****. He just seems like one of those MMA fanboys. He should maybe learn the sport of boxing before he comments on it. We have plenty of young stars.
realheavyhands 07-13-2007, 12:19 AM firs thing he said was wrong ,boxing has so many different damn styles is redicuous... toney is like and old master ninja ...winky is a boxer ..bernard is a runner brawler counter puncher..roy jones is his own style..mosley is his own style.. cotto his own style..... peter is a slugger
HendrixLove 07-13-2007, 12:26 AM lol, this guy is a joke. Put any MMA fighter in boxing, he gets his ass whooped. Put him in Kickboxing, he gets his ass whooped. Have him fight in Mui Thai, he gets his ass whooped. Yes they are well rounded fighters, but hell no they aren't the best fighters in the world, let alone best fighters in the world to represent each fighting style. This guy wants to talk **** about the Oscar/Floyd fight?, yeah it sucked but it was sure as hell a lot better than Liddel/Tito & Liddel/Jackson put together. Also, what is this guy talking about boxing fans being fake? ****, pretty much the ones keeping boxing from dying out are loyal hardcore boxing fans.
Boxing also has big fights all the damn time, it's just that the media doesn't cover them to get casual fans to tune-in, mostly due to the fact that there isn't any white American boxing champs like there is in MMA.

First of all I was sticking up for MMA but your fanboy ass attitude probably failed to realize that. When some guys say "UFC" I usually think they are just ignorant and/or unintelligent and are referring to MMA. I was referring to MMA in general. Sorry if that upsets you, no go cry elsewhere you ****ing WANKER.

Notice that I have not cried or used any offense language compared to you. I'm a fan of both but I feel necessary to educate the MMA/UFC haters.
We can have intelligent conversation/discussion whitout your ''F'' words and childish attitude. If you want to discuss please bring some legit argument.
Thanks.
PS: Stop thinking everyone who is referring to UFC is ignorant/unintelligent, it's untrue.

Yeah but thats the point. You see that with Mui Thai champs, Kick boxing champs, K1 champs, etc.... because they dont get paid the way boxers do, do you really think K1 fighters would be wasting their time with Pride or UFC if they were making the kind of money boxers do???????

Tiger Wood is making way more money than any boxers.
Why would you waste your life training and risking your body?
I hope you get the point...

Lame ass comeback.
Thats like saying, why should Tiger Woods be golfing when he could do what Bill Gates did and make billions...
Like I said, if boxers weren't making the type of money they are making, you'd be seeing top boxers fighting in MMA the same way kick boxers, Mui Thai fighters, etc....did.
Brave_turtle 07-13-2007, 01:05 AM Stop playing both sides of the fence commie. Which one is it? MMA or boxing?

lol, you never even had a point so why are you even trying??? Sounds to me like your *****ing out by talking in code.
Konstantin 07-13-2007, 01:10 AM I think boxing is more appealing to the general public because they can identify with it more. Everyone knows jab, hook. Some may even have been in a fight. But no casual viewer knows what an arm bar is...

Exactly, when the hell have you ever seen a fight after school or in a bar were it ended up with two guys trying to submit each other (really rare)??????

I hear what you are saying and I appreciate you sticking up for both sports. However, I personally am quickly reaching the point of being a fan of mma, but almost anti-UFC. I feel that Pride was the pinnacle of mma in so many ways, but UFC is like the fast-food of mma.

I agree UFC is to a certain degree a double edge sword to MMA.
I'm glad to see other org coming on slowly. It will also give better options for fighters.
Tokez 07-13-2007, 01:59 AM UFC Fights last for 5 rounds max. Also, the best UFC title matches are as fun as the crappiest boxing matchups.
BTW: That crazymike dude watches WWE LMAO. Fake ****. Look at his ****in favorites and the videos hes uploaded.
GunStar 07-13-2007, 02:03 AM Lol, this kid is an idiot!
Kakutogi-Gumi 07-13-2007, 10:10 AM to be fair there was Johnny Morton (NFL player), Brock Lesnar (WWE wrestler), but I get your point.
I'll give you Morton, but Lesnar was NCAA champ from Minn.
Also keep in mind, before the UFC was handing out bigger paydays, the only way Amateur wrestlers could make a decent living off there talents in the US and this goes for all Martial Artists, was to get into Pro-Wrestling. Sure they could have signed with PRIDE, but it wasn't popular at the time.
So before you write off someone coming into MMA as a "pro-wrassler", please do your homework first.
-Hyperion- 07-13-2007, 10:14 AM "Boxing fans only watch fights because everyone else is watching them."
.
yeah right, its the other way around, everybody watches UFC because others are watching it, ****ing sheep........
Lethal 07-13-2007, 10:16 AM Brave Turtle is a great poster. Good job man, these fools are so ignorant and couldn't logically debate if their life depended on it.
Lethal 07-13-2007, 10:18 AM to be fair there was Johnny Morton (NFL player).
Johnny Morton got knocked the **** out and almost died. He is a lesson to all that not everyone can do MMA.
IronNick. 07-13-2007, 04:30 PM keep this compelling arguement going.
MOREBASS 07-14-2007, 02:01 AM Exactly, when the hell have you ever seen a fight after school or in a bar were it ended up with two guys trying to submit each other (really rare)??????
Actually, most of the real life street fights I've seen, have almost always ended up in a scuffle, and eventually ended up on the ground. Its almost never the case that a street brawl turn into a straight up boxing match.
I honestly don't get why people feel the need to choose one or the other. I am a fan of both, and find both have their fair share of snoozfests, and each both have their fair share of exciting fights.
For example, comparing the two biggest events of the year, in each respective sport, some might have found the tactical chess match of the De La Hoya - Mayweather bout more entertaining, while others, might have found the 2 minute knockout of Chuck Liddell more entertaining.
In the end its all about entertainment, and you can get some out of both, no sense in trying to argue which one is better. Its like arguing about ' who the best rapper is '
lennon 07-14-2007, 01:33 PM I'm upset, I was looking to get into a debate and I thought this was gonna be a legimiate argument for UFC. Some of his "points" were so ridiculous I'm pretty sure he was trying to embarass himself:

Classic, lol, so thats why we have 4 world heavyweight champions presently and none are from the United States and the first unification in 8 years is happening in Moscow! Thats why the light welterweight champion is Ricky Hatton for the Uk who took 12000 fans with him from Britain all the way to Las Vegas last month for his fight!
lennon 07-14-2007, 01:37 PM People deride boxing, say its dead, why, just because its not the current fad.
The facts are that it is ticking away nicely,
16,000+ tickets were sold in first 12 hours for the Calzaghe-Kessler world super middleweight title Unification fight which takes place November 3 at the 76,000-seat Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. That's already 90% of the total sold for De La Hoya-Mayweather!
Coming soon,
On October 13th, world heavyweight champions Sultan Ibragimov and Ruslan Chagaev will not only achieve their dream of unifying the heavyweight crown, they will get to do it in front of an expected crowd of over 14,000 at the Khodynka Arena in Moscow

NuffSpeed 07-16-2007, 06:00 AM Two different sports....I wouldn't say either is "better" then the other, just different and therefore appeal to different crowds. Personally I train and have trained straight boxing, as well as muay thai, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and "mma" for around ten years. I see all these arguments and editorials poping up in boxing programs at the fights, on t.v, etc etc about which sport is better, could a boxer beat a mma fighter vice versa blah blah blah... to be honest, WHO CARES? Let me break it down..Two entirely different sports, if you put an mma fighter against a boxer of equal skill in mma rules, chances are, the mma guy will win. If you put a boxer against an mma guy of equal skill in a boxing ruled fight, chances are that the boxer will win. While both sports train to fight, its completely different with completely different rules. You cant compare and say one is better then the other, because thats just a personal point of view, there are no facts that weigh one better then the other, only opinions....as per the level of skill to do either, as with anything there are skill levels within each sport, UFC and Pride generally have the best the sport of MMA have to offer right now, and believe me, not just anyone can fight in the UFC or Pride. Generally, there are not alot of amateur mma bouts with full rules right now, so you get venues like King of the Cage etc with generally less experienced fighters. Yes you have guys with 4 years of training or alot less in some events, but the amateur system just isnt there yet and may never be(with full rules). MMA does offer alot more options within the fight, because of the rule differences obviously, but there again, its how well the fighter can pull the techniques off. In boxing, generally you can have an amateur fight after 6 months of training sometimes less. The sport of boxing is HUGE compared to MMA, and offers a greater opportunity to fight and test/hone your skills. The sweet science is a stable sport, where as mma is still evolving (even though pankration goes back to the first olympics B.C)in its present form. I could go on and on, long story short...two different sports...which is better, football or basketball? Hows that for a first post? Long enough lol..:boxing:
TBEC2 07-16-2007, 08:07 AM Im a fan of combat sports period. I do not prefer boxing over MMA and vice versa. However to me MMA is "fighting" at its purest form two guys limited rules and ability to use as many tools ur body has at your disposal.
Boxing to me is "sport" at its purest form, a complex art form of the body involving lots of strategy that is not easy to master.
The two in my opinion are not comparable. This argument is similar to that of American football vs Soccer not one party can win cause the two represent different aspects of the athletes competing in them.
A soccer play cant put on pads and become a pro running back, and a football player doest have the stamina to hang with the best soccer players in the world.
Same with boxing vs mma, either outside their element would fail miserably.
Just my thoughts on the topic.

Lol...what do you mean REAL? So you mean boxers aren't REALLY fighting? What are they doing then?
ShooShitshu 07-17-2007, 02:54 PM Boxing is just one part of MANY disciplines in fighting.
Steak 07-19-2007, 05:43 PM Boxing is just one part of MANY disciplines in fighting.
all you see is mismatches in mma. I used to be a fan of mma, but it gets old. because theres so much diversity in the techniques used, everyone has too much of a chance.
let me put it this way...you have one outstanding grappler but not so good in striking, and you match him against someone who is outstanding in striking but not so good in grappling. Theres two scenarios that will happen...either the grappler takes the striker to the ground and easily beats him, or the striker keeps it on the feet and easily beats the grappler. Even though they are closely ranked in terms of wins, the fight itself is a complete mismatch that looks like one skilled guy vs one unskilled guy, depending who keeps it in their preferred area of fighting. just look at all the mma upsets lately...the most invincible seeming champs are being dominated badly, look at what happened to Arona and Lil Nog, Serra vs. GSP, Gomi vs. Diaz, etc.
Also, when you get two of the best in the world actually go at it in the same style, they usually dont even use what theyre good at against each other...look at Pe De Pano vs. Jeff Monson, amazing grapplers that have beaten many in competitions, but it was a horrible fight because these two decided to try and strike each other, and frankly they both suck at it. You see this all the time...when you see people striking in mma, a good mojority of the time its two grapplers, not actual strikers going at it. This doesnt ALWAYS happen...like Mark Hunt vs. CroCop.
now I enjoy more than boxing and mma, like I like to watch the best wrestlers in the world go against each other in the olympics, I watch the best BJJ guys whenever I get the chance to and everything, but you wont find the best vs. the best of the same style in mma...almost ever.
Now, a good fight is a good fight, but those dont happen that often in my eyes. I like mma fights where they switch around postiions a lot...Hansen vs. Azeredo, Shogun vs. Lil Nog, Henderson vs. Wand, those are good. but theyre simply a rarity it seems like.
