View Full Version : Getting Into Shape - Want To Be A Boxer
YellowAndBlack 07-12-2007, 11:41 AM Okay, so, I've become infatuated with becoming a boxer. I've taken the steps to start getting in shape, however I'm curious as to what the right steps are to creating what I want. I want to lose quite a bit of weight and start tacking on times two the muscle, but I want to be fast, I don't like sluggish fighters. I've started running again, I used to do six miles a day, I currently just lift dumbells and haven't stepped into the gym yet.
What in your opinions would be the best way to go about continuing my training?

Get yourself into the gym as soon as possible and train hard. I wouldn't worry about the muscle mass. First and foremost you need to just concentrate on picking up the basic skills.
Godd Luck!

YellowAndBlack 07-12-2007, 12:42 PM Thanks for the reply, however, the problem is, there aren't many boxing specific gyms in my area. There are several martial arts related places however.
SpeedKillz 07-12-2007, 12:44 PM where u live?
YellowAndBlack 07-12-2007, 12:54 PM Oklahoma, ironically. There's alot of mixed martial arts, tough man stuff that comes through here, but that doesn't intrest me. I've already served my stint in karate.
msagrain 07-12-2007, 01:06 PM to get into shape run ... run ... n run some more
Evil_Meat 07-12-2007, 01:14 PM well really i think before doing a lot of running u should just do skipping, bag work, and movement drills just so u develop the muscles u'll be using in the ring.

Cuauhtémoc1502 07-12-2007, 05:39 PM Dont worry about becoming a certian type of fighter you WANT to be. Your body and skill will place you where you NEED to be. I would love to be a boxer with incredible speed but unfortunatly God didnt give me those talents. I'm more of a boxer puncher with a good chin and hard shots.
3 things you can't "learn" or be great at by training.
1) speed
2) chin
3) power
You can improve your speed and power but you either have "it" or you don't
chin your just born with.
