the art of driving someone insane and, if done correctly, make the victim kill themselves.

you basically set up and manipulate little situations that, at first, make the victim seem to forget things. misplace their stuff, etc.

gaslighting was a term given from a doctor that hated his wife so much that he decided to "gaslight" her through insanity.

this was back in the days when houses had lighting via gas powered lamps.

he knew that subconsciously the mind is always more happy and productive in a well lit area. so he would do just what i described to his wife by setting up tiny little scenarios to make her doubt her own judgement.
except that every day he would turn down a small, tiny fraction of the gas that lit the lamps in the house. he did it so gradually over months and months that she never noticed the increased dimness. supposedly it had a very large roll in making her eventually go insane
