The year is 1996, Hip Hop is far from dead and the leaders of this revolution come in forms of many. Jay has just stepped onto the scene with Reasonable Doubt, Illmatic is New York City's album and Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakurs feud has sparked a horrible change of events to come. Dj Premier, Pete Rock, Large Pro and Dr.Dre are the maestros behind the boards and thrive with there genius....
If this time was upon us now and all our recent Mc's came back to join the fun, who would matter and who would fade off into the night?

I played Nas's It Was Written in 1996 and Pac died that fall...
But I get what you're saying - and hardly anyone getting radio play/moving albums right now who wasn't out then would matter that year...
You didn't mention Em's Infinite was a 1996 album, though no one played it back then...

Yeah I know It Was Written had just dropped and Pac died but I was speaking in terms of before Pac passed, the build up until that night and Illmatic was looked at as the holy mecca of the new york scene.

You're from Jersey so you would know better than me, but Ready to Die had come out by then as well, which I rate above Illmatic

Ready to Die was dropped also but Im talking in the general sense of things, Illmatic tore up the east coast as well was Ready to Die.
