Thanks guys SpeedKillz 07-06-2007, 05:00 PM weighted vests are money! i use them when i'm doing like sprints and explosive training. i dont like shadowbox or use them for endurance training, just short bursts. sometimes i'll use them for pushups, pullups, etc. FIGHTING_FLIP 07-07-2007, 06:08 AM yeh i was thinkin bout buyin one of these to..one of my main concern is tho that will it effect my spine?like after a while will i develop scoliosis? phillies04 07-07-2007, 10:55 AM That's a good question. See I was thinking about using it for shadow boxing as well but for when I do a round of defense to get my body moving faster to slip punches. yeh i was thinkin bout buyin one of these to..one of my main concern is tho that will it effect my spine?like after a while will i develop scoliosis? LionZionist 07-08-2007, 01:38 AM I hear bad things about them. I guess it depends on what your money's like, but for me I don't want to spend $150 just to add resistance to push-ups and pull-ups. I hear it sucks to run with them, so I wouldn't be doing that (they bounce a lot and are just straight uncomfortable, shadow boxing sounds like a good idea with them and I've seen Melvin Manhoef (K-1 kickboxer use one), but I too would be a bit concerned about ****ing up your back using one. Just my 2-cents, but I'm only regurgitating what I've been told. j 07-08-2007, 05:41 AM yeh i was thinkin bout buyin one of these to..one of my main concern is tho that will it effect my spine?like after a while will i develop scoliosis? only if you are uneducated will you think of some some **** like that. but you are not stupid, right? so i take it that you just weren't very good with your sarcasm here. it's ok though. That's a good question. See I was thinking about using it for shadow boxing as well but for when I do a round of defense to get my body moving faster to slip punches. don't bend your spine side to side much when using a weighted vest unless you want to **** up your spine. come to think of it, you should never really do that. Golden-Gloves 07-09-2007, 04:59 PM I dont know anyone who uses a Weighted Vest for shadow boxing, but I know people who use it for running, good results if you can handle it Versastyle 07-09-2007, 06:32 PM Im going to buy the weighted shorts pretty soon. That will be a huge improvement to my explosiveness SpeedKillz 07-09-2007, 07:20 PM Im going to buy the weighted shorts pretty soon. Versastyle 07-09-2007, 07:22 PM never heard of that. where do u get them at? http://store.titleboxing.com/strength-weighted-shorts.html SpeedKillz 07-09-2007, 07:24 PM http://store.titleboxing.com/strength-weighted-shorts.html **** i never seen them on title boxing before. thats the **** thanks vers good looks!! DoctorKillJoy 07-10-2007, 09:55 AM Those prices are crazy though... are they that much better than using ankle weights? Versastyle 07-13-2007, 11:44 PM Those prices are crazy though... are they that much better than using ankle weights? Im quite sure they are. Feint 07-14-2007, 03:04 AM I respect other people’s opinions, but as with a lot of equipment that is out there weighted items are a con to get money out of athletes. Here is the main question for any piece of equipment, what is it designed to do and could I get the same results without paying the money? If you’re looking for strength, the potential muscle these items will put on is minimal to none If you were working with weights would you only lift 10 pounds with your legs and/or 30 pounds with you upper body? No, of course not as it would be a waste of your time. So why do it with these weighted items that also cost a great deal of money, especially when you could work out with free-weights or even using your own body weight as resistance? These items are for people looking for an easy answer that is both expensive and does not work. (Especially the weighted shorts as that will not build any muscle I ever heard of unless you train your private area to lift the weight plate that is in the front of the shorts, in which case let me be the first to say, “Congratulations.”) As for speed, ankle weights are a total waste of time. Look at it this way, when those weights come off after your workout are you walking any faster in the rest of your life’s activities? No, you’re not. Your legs will have adjusted to the lack of weight within a minute of removing them. In fact, the only benefit would be if you somehow kept these weights on all day and night and only when you fought you took them off. Then perhaps you might feel a little quicker in the ring though not because the weights built any significant muscle, but only because there is less weight on your ankles at that moment. But even that gain would be minimal at best and is obviously impractical. Don’t bother with ankle weights. As far as the weighted vest and shorts, I suppose if you ran with them on it would require more effort and thus would build up your stamina. But you know what also builds your stamina? Running longer distances and it’s free. Plus, running with all that extra weight is just asking for knee injuries. As for shadow boxing, it’s a total worthless item for speed. I can’t even comprehend a minimal benefit. For speed, build your leg muscles through old -fashioned running. Work in sprints and stairs as they concentrate of your calves, which is where your quickness comes from. But don’t waste your money on weighted anything. Anyway, I hate to see people waste their money. There is some good equipment out there if you really want to spend the money instead of using your own body weight, but weighted items are a total waste of your time and money. SpeedKillz 07-14-2007, 09:20 AM that was a great post feint, but i gotta disagree at some parts. weighted vests are indeed a valuable training tool. for explosive training, plyometrics, rotational power, etc. they are great. if u train ur body as u were in a higher weight class, u gain the speed, power, etc of a heavier man, and since u r a lighter man, that extra function will greatly help u against another man of the same weight, imo at least. i fight at 165 for example and usually walk around at 168-169 (not now unfortunately though :smashfrea ) and i train with my xvest with usually no more than 20 pounds, so to me it seems like i am 189 and training as that weight class fighter and getting more explosive and more strong and when the vest comes off i feel even stronger. these weighted shorts will be good also because they wont add stress to ur joints cuz of the balanced weight, and it will def increase leg stamina and endurance, and explosive power, especially for a guy like vers who does alot of bob and weaving and throws those bombs like iron mike... Simply put.I want to use the weighted shorts for explosiveness and getting inside quicker. My resistant arms bands worked wonders for my handspeed. So Im a fan.
