Phil Baroni Comments On Loss To Lindland
Published by Matthew Boone on 03/03/2003 at 09:23 AM

After what seems to be an early candidate for fight of the year, and an all out war at UFC 41: Onslaught, MMANews.com caught up with Phil Baroni to get his thoughts on the Matt Lindland fight. "The only thing I can say is congratulations to Matt Lindland, he did what he had to do. He did what he had to do to pull out the fight, that's it. That's really all I have to say, you know? I take my hat off to him."

Does Phil Baroni want to fight Matt Lindland for a third time to get a decisive winner as both fights ended in pretty close decisions? "I'll see him again, that's all. Hopefully, I'll see him again. I congratulate him and he did a good job. That's all I really have to say."

When asked if he still wanted to fight Murilo Bustamante, Baroni told us, "Hope so. Hope it works out that way, you know? If I ever have the title, the number one contender in my mind, no matter what happens, is Matt Lindland. That's who I'd like to fight, you know? I understand if he has the title he's not gonna want to fight me because he beat me twice. Other than that, in my mind, when I become the champion, I would like to fight Matt Lindland. To be the best in the world, you have to beat the best in the world. Right now, Matt Lindland is two up on me."

I think he handled that pretty good. I was expecting a ton of excuses.

He's a man, he'll be back. I think Busta would own him, but who knows. He's not even gonna get a shot for now, guess we'll get another Busta- Lindland rematch.

NO NO NO NO NO I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

The fight was a fix!!!!

Just like in WWE!

Baroni lost just so he could turn from heel to face!!!

(this is all sarcasm I am not actually claiming fix)

I want to see them fight again. Two great fights.

Phil could of won that fight if it had been 5 rounds. I really belive that

But it wasn't so who gives a ****. Lindland would have dominated 2 more rounds.

I am glad Lindland won...but good to see Phil speak like a humble fighter and not an inflated pro wrestler. Hope he cvan keep this attitude

Glad to see he took this loss like a man instead of throwing excuses out for everything that Happened. Hope they fight again sometime down the road.

Sometimes it takes a thorough owning for a person to find their humility.

If two losses to the same guy isn't thorough btw, then I dunno what is.

Did you see the same fights I did?

Do you get different edited versions in Australia?

Those two fights were close.

This last fight, was close. Baroni won the third and the first was too close to call. The second round was the only round Lindland dominated.

Baroni gave a very good performance and was not owned.

And I do hope Baroni goes back to his pro wrestling attitude. It is good in a sport where the guys are white washed and predictable.

Go Phil!!!! Kick Woody from Something About Mary's Ass next time, beat the ugly out of him!!!

That's choice stuff!

I'm sure he just said what his publicist told him to say. I still can't stand the **** talking, WWE style theatrics types. It cheapens our sport.
