I read about this exhibition in Boxing Monthly I'm hoping to goto it, has anyone who posts here been to it??

● The Long Reach
Tuesday 15 May, 7pm
S.I.Martin, freelance writer and researcher on black issues in the UK considers the relationship between the abolition of the slave trade in 1807 and the prominence of black prize fighters from Abolition to the present day. This special event commemorates the 2007 Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade.

● The Life and Times of Daniel Mendoza
Tuesday 29 May, 7pm
In an illustrated talk, writer, reviewer and journalist Jad Adams tells the story of the celebrated ‘father of scientific boxing’ within the context of 18th century society.

● ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ – The Impact of Racial Stereotypes on Sport
Tuesday 19 June, 7pm
Dr Gavin Schaffer, Senior Lecturer in European History at the University of Portsmouth and author of a new book on the history of racial science examines the way in which minority athletes have responded to labels based on racist perceptions.

● Raging Bulls
Thursday 5 July, 7pm
Sylvia Paskin, Writer and lecturer on film, poetry and literature presents an illustrated lecture exploring representations of the fighter in film and showing how the stark but poetic world of boxing has always held fascination for Hollywood film makers.

● Imagining Jewish Bodies
Thursday 19 July, 7pm
Professor Sander Gilman, the eminent cultural and literary historian and expert in the history of medicine, describes European stereotypes of the Jewish body and its antithesis in the body of the athlete.


Admission to all of the above events is £5 (Museum Friends and students £4) including admission to the Ghetto Warriors exhibition and Museum galleries one hour before the event.
