View Full Version : Boxing wants similar show like UFC
2swell k-wells 06-28-2007, 03:36 PM This is a quote from promoter Bob Arum from a story about the upcoming morales-diaz fight that will be held in Chicago on August 4.
...Arum also is borrowing a page from the Ultimate Fighting Championship in how he's going to entertain the fans.
''The UFC's idea is to entertain the people, get them all hopped up, and that's what younger people want,'' he said. ''They don't want a lot of sitting on their hands between rounds or between fights.
''We'll have music going and a light show, pyrotechnics and girls dancing on platforms. We'll have less time between fights. We'll turn Allstate Arena into a nightclub.''
Pretty funny that one of the top U.S. boxing promoters is taking his lead from the UFC on how to make a show of the fight game. Goes to show you that Dana and the rest of the UFC management have it down to a science.
1bad65 06-28-2007, 04:00 PM He admits the UFC is exciting and that boxing needs to get more exciting too, and I agree with that. But I think his solutions are all wrong, light shows, pyros, and girls are NOT in any way why UFC is exciting. UFC is exciting because the champs often fight the #1 contenders for the belts. Boxing has too many BS titles and mangers and promoters all looking out for THEMSELVES and not the fans. Making themselves money is more important than doing what needs to be done, and that is to have the big matchups the fans want.
Just put on the best fights, with the best fighters and the fans(and money) will pour in. It's common sense.
And Arum is one of the slimiest liars in boxing. He does not give a damn about good matchups, all he cares about is his pocketbook.

its what the boxing promoter stated not me. The music I've heard, dancing girls I've never seen, pyros...havent seen that in ufc for awhile. I know why the UFC is exciting man, dont try to teach me something I already know. Its just funny how boxing is gon try this, its not gonna help them at all. Like you stated people want to be entertained by the fights and fighters, and boxing just needs more exciting fights and fighters, knockouts and ****.
Boxing is just so boring ya know.

The UFC turns Arenas into nightclubs? I didn't know that. And I certainly didn't know UFC had girls dancing on platforms. They must be censoring that "kind" of fun and only allowing the ones who pay for tickets the ability to see that.

Maybe Arum was watching PRIDE FC and Studio 54 at the same time.
Kakutogi-Gumi 06-28-2007, 06:20 PM The UFC hasn't had pyro for the longest time.

Quick question, did the UFC have Pyro when Genki Sudo was there?

Lazers and cherry petals. No pyro.
FluugMacMan 06-28-2007, 11:16 PM Lazers and cherry petals. No pyro.
Phtsshh. Genki with no pyro is like crocop with no kicks. Though I do see UFC not going the way of pyro anytime soon. More deaths in pyro displays then in MMA history (likes stating obvious facts to down play the danger in MMA).
2swell k-wells 06-28-2007, 11:23 PM last time I've seen pyro is when tito ortiz had those flames.

Nobody's going to pay $300 to sit ringside and watch pyro and pretty lights. They will because they are boxing fans.

Tell that to lil boxing promoter Bob Arum, it was his idea dude not mine. I just had to post it to show how stupid they are to try that and Think its the reason why MMA fans are entertained which isnt true. If you like watching 2 guys box 12 rounds or boring than hey its all good but for me, I like to see the best fighters fight each other like how UFC/Pride runs their business. Boxing fans dont have the right to say boxing is better just because their athletes make more money, that dont prove ****, it just proves they make more money thats it period. Now in UFC you have 2 guys doing what they love for small amount of money and keeping me entertained, now that sir is good enough for me.
Brave_turtle 06-29-2007, 03:28 AM Arum should forget about pyro and think of a way of making his whole boxing card entertaining. I've been sick of boring Boxing undercard followed by a so-so main event.
I rather watch a whole entertaining product than just a main event that can't keep up with the hype.

What the **** is your deal you ***got? You got a serious superiorty complex. ALways talking about boxing and ****...man just **** off you know nothing about the sport so shut it. Thanks.
Oh, and oh yeah, boxing aint dead. We just dont promote it all gay like gay ass Dana white. We dont have ****ty cards that match up the big names vs. some ****ty as guys. Silva - Lutter...LMAO. Franklin and whats his name...LMAO. That's all UFC does..they provide "good fights" by matching up a bunch of top level guys against overmathced opponents. So suck on that *****.
Oh, and how many buys did Mayweather - Delahoya get compared to Rampage and that unskilled bum Liddell??? Tell me, please...:)

Kakutogi-Gumi 06-30-2007, 07:28 AM How much replay value did DLH/FM get?
Did DLH help any of the guys on the undercard advance or gain contendership?
Stop using quantity of money to judge the quality of money.
BTW, since you want to be a dick about things, Penn/Pulver beat Castillo/Hatton.
The Ultimate Fighter 5 finale on ****e TV drew 300,000 more Men 18-49 and 261,000 more Men 18-34 on Saturday, June 23 than the coverage of the Yankees and Giants on Fox earlier that day. In fact, during primetime, the 3-hour ****e telecast (9:00pm-Midnight) outdrew anything else on television – cable or broadcast — with Men 18-34 and 18-49.
“The reason our UFC programming consistently beats all other sports on broadcast, cable and pay tv is The Ultimate Fighter’s ability to build stars like Manny Gamburyan and Nate Diaz who resonate with our audience, stated Kevin Kay, General Manager, ****e TV.
Overall The Ultimate Fighter 5 finale reached 2.6 million people with a 3.0 rating in Men 18-34 (834,000), 2.6 rating in Men 18-49 (1.4 million), and a 2.00 HH rating. The telecast peaked with 3.4 million people at 11:30pm for the Penn-Pulver fight.
The UFC event also knocked out HBO’s boxing telecast of Ricky Hatton vs. Jose Luis Castillo which aired head-to-head that evening. Despite it being HBO’s most watched fight of the year for Men 18-34, ****e drew 153% more Men 18-34 and 106% more Men 18-49. Overall, the ****e finale drew 800,000 more total viewers.

Well this is a boxing forum, and he is in a sub-forum of MMA; isn't it natural to talk about boxing and MMA? Is what he's doing so ridiculous?
Oh, and oh yeah, boxing aint dead.
OBVIOUSLY BOXING ISN"T DEAD. Stop bringing that up when nobody mentions it. Who are you debating points with, yourself?
We just dont promote it all gay like gay ass Dana white.
Gay? Phssst. Come up with something better then that. I guess that "gay" promoting appeals to more males ages 18-49, the group that boxing promoters want to capture as well.
We dont have ****ty cards that match up the big names vs. some ****ty as guys. Silva - Lutter...LMAO. Franklin and whats his name...LMAO.
Yeah you're right, and boxing doesn't have it's "inflate my wins" matches. UFC has the best vs the best 85% of the time. Boxing promoter have the best vs the best 6% of the time, if that. Comeback with a real argument.
That's all UFC does..they provide "good fights" by matching up a bunch of top level guys against overmathced opponents.
Again, they rarely do that. That's why champion belts change hands frequently, and are going to change even faster in coming months.
So suck on that *****.
Suck on what, you've said/proved NOTHING.
Oh, and how many buys did Mayweather - Delahoya get compared to Rampage and that unskilled bum Liddell??? Tell me, please...:)

Refer to Royal's post and finally get educated.
