was LaMotta going to fight Joe Louis? I remember hearing about it, and also heard it mentioned in Raging Bull that he wanted to, but I didn't know he was actually going for it. Cause, the picture looks as if they were promoting a fight against each other, which would, of course, be impossible, because of weight difference.

In the Raging Bull movie, Lamotta is referring to the fact that he feels his career will not be properly validated because he couldn't move up and fight Joe Louis. He was acknowledging that a fight with "The Brown Bomber" would've made him into a true legendary superstar that stands alone in his greatness, but that the fight was completely infeasible.

Heres a thread I created awhile ago which talks about the same question, you can find some answers there.

Jake hit very hard, his record is not honest to his abilities.
P4P it would be an interesting fight.

He had a pretty good dig but no one punch KO power. His punchers lacked snap so he only scored a mere 30 ko's in 106 fights.

I'm a big LaMotta fan but Joe Louis would have ****ed his shut up. Jake was a natural middlweight. If he wanted to fight as a heavyweight he wouldn't be in good enough shape anyway. As a boxer both were great but we aren't talking about a P4P fight here. Jake alwas wished but it wasn't possible with his bodytype and size. If he did fight him Jake would have been embarrassed.

I disagree, I think its more cause lamotta perferred to play Possum with his opponents and wait for them to tire out........His punching power is extremely underrated, but you knew that already...

Still it makes you wonder how well Lamotta would do in todays boxing. The larger gloves would make it harder for him to KO guys, and the possum strategy isn't looked kindly upon by todays safety refs.
