Pretty much any move in which the bending and/or strentching of the neck is used to gain a submission (as opposed to a choke, where the idea is to cut off the flow of blood to the brain or air to the lungs).

Examples:

- Kazuyuki Fujita's scarf hold on Hans Nyman
- Tito Ortiz's side headlock on Yuki Kondo
- Mark Kerr's can opener on Borisov Igor

A crank usually puts pressure on the trapezoid muscles (traps) and posterior neck muscles.

Well, even if you're trying to crank witha gulliotine, the basic mechanics in applying it make the choke unavoidable.

Example: Barbosa's gullitiotined on Uno. Even though he was cranking the ever loving **** out of Uno's head & neck, Uno tapped out due to the choke aspect opf the move.
