Winners in the Preliminaries will join established K-1 fighters in four Semifinal Tournaments, with those who make it there through advancing to a two-stage Final, culminating in December at the Tokyo Dome, when the world's top eight will meet to determine who will be the King of Kings.

K-1 World Grand Prix 2003 Preliminary Tournaments will be held in France (Jan 25), Brazil (Feb 23), South Africa (Feb 23), Sweden (Mar 15), Italy (Mar 29), Holland (Apr 6), and Croatia (May 10).

These will be 8-man elimination tournaments in the familiar K-1 knock-out format, with a single man from each advancing to one of the Semifinal Tournaments (Las Vegas, May 2; Basel, May 31; Paris, June 14; Melbourne, Jul 27).

The four Semifinal winners; seven 2002 Finalists (Defending World GP Champion Ernesto Hoost, Jerome LeBanner, Mark Hunt, Ray Sefo, Stefan Leko, Peter Aerts, Bob Sapp); and three fighters chosen for superior performances in these and other K-1 events (such as the Superfight nights in Saitama on Mar 30 and Fukuoka on Jul 17) will square off in a one-match format tournament at the Osaka Dome on October 11.

Finally, the seven Osaka winners will join the Japan Grand Prix 2003 Champion (who will be crowned in August) at the Tokyo Dome K-1 World Grand Prix 2003 Final on December 6.
