View Full Version : Im Fightin on Friday
EsePelon 06-19-2007, 03:55 PM Well im an amateur boxer and im gonna have my second fight coming friday. I lost to this guy the first time and I felt like as if all the training i had done was worthless because he was a very bad boxer but he just kinda kept swinging and he was on top of me the whole time not lettin me get my distance. Hes smaller than me and im just wonderin what you think i should do. He throws wide hooks most of the time and i have an idea of what to do already but i could use some other ideas. Another question, when im training i do pretty good but when im about to fight i kinda get nervous. What can i do to make that go away and how can i be a little more agressive?

spar spar and spar some more. as for ur opponent, whenever he thows a wide hook, jab him hard and step around and shoot a right hand (assuming ur orthodox), or u could cover up and block and then counter, some ideas. dont let fighters smother you, if someone is on top of u, jus pivot in the direction his weight is leanin on, and give him kinda like a push with your same side hand as your pivoting to kinda make him tip forward, when he turns around and regains balance, guess what, STRAIGHT RIGHT! let us know how u make out. good luck.
BodyW8 06-19-2007, 04:48 PM Good luck. the important bit is not to get discouraged if you lose, because it's all a learning experience and many great fighters lose many early amateur fights.

mgkirkpatrick 06-19-2007, 07:16 PM stub your toe on the way to the ring for added aggression..
in all serious tho if he's swinging wide and awkward.. back yourself to beat him to the punch with fast straight shots. the jab is your friend.
shawn_ 06-19-2007, 07:47 PM Jab, jab, and jab some more. Getting jabbed in the face gets really discouraging really fast.
With an amature, especialy sombody with little experiance, you can make them not want to come forward any more with a jab. They will just kinda stand there and wait for you to throw stuff, or they will start lunging in with shots, but if you keep countering them with a jab, they will eventualy stop doing that too.
You can make your opponent do whatever you want by using your jab.

Just pretend you are Wladimir Klitschko and jab him to death.
Why hasn't your trainer given you advice?
Golden-Gloves 06-20-2007, 04:31 AM I would say your Jab is your best weapon at this point..
Any good Boxer can beat a good Brawler, you just have to be smart..
When he throws that looping hook, brush block it and come right back with a strait right..
Dont let one loss get you down, Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather, Jab Judah, ect all have multiple amateur losses, it can help you tremendously if you use it to your advantage..
Good Luck
Trick 06-20-2007, 08:42 AM I like SpeedKillz advice, so,
Good luck man
In the words of Kon Artis: Why should I fear another man if he bleed like I bleed?
Don't be worried about this guy hurtin' you, cause you can hurt him just as bad. And if you're as confident as you should be, more than he can.

i like that quote. good stuff trick
DA1CATAS 06-20-2007, 09:47 AM If he's throwing those slapping wide hooks stay inside and hit that ***get wit uppercuts... he'll lay back quick after ya touch him a few times..
Head movement and jabs after that.. If he's wide your straight right should hit the X before his everytime... Use your angles too.. Angles work great against wide punchers.. Their power shots lose the little power they had and they can't punch correctly from the side.
