Report: Ken Shamrock to Face Bisping at UFC 75

Update: Reports now indicate that this fight may not be as definite as was first reported. It is now worded that Shamrock “could possibly” come out of retirement to fight Bisping. It seems that this fight could happen but until the UFC confirms this fight (or a fight with Hamill) Bisping’s opponent will remain in doubt.

According to The Fight Network Ken Shamrock will return to the UFC to face Michael Bisping at UFC 75 in London. Earlier this week Ticketmaster began promoting an event between Bisping and fellow TUF 3 competitor Matt Hamill although it appears that fight has been tossed out in favor of the new matchup.

Shamrock has won just one of his last 6 fights. The win came in 2004 when he defeated Kimo Leopoldo via TKO in round 1. Aside from the quick win Shamrock has showed no signs of returning to his winning form. Among the losses are 3 defeats at the hands of Tito Ortiz and TKO losses to Kazushi Sakuraba and Rich Franklin.

In an interesting twist, Shamrock (along with Ortiz) was one of the coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 3, a season Bisping eventually went on to win. Shamrock retired last October after a loss to Tito Ortiz in one of the biggest UFC events ever and has since began coaching in the International Fight League.

Earlier this year we caught wind of a potential Shamrock return to the UFC. At the time he had submitted a request for a fight to Dana White and was awaiting a response. It appears his request was granted as this report indicates he will be facing undefeated light heavyweight Michael Bisping on London at UFC 75 this September.

This is still a preliminary report as the UFC has yet to confirm the fight or explain why Hamill was removed from the fight but it seems as though UFC legend Ken Shamrock will be returning to the UFC this fall.

Looks like Shamrock is becoming one of those gatekeepers. If Bisping is the real deal he should take care of Shamrock. Sinosic actually had Bisping hurt in the last fight, but Bisping shook it off to beats his ass.

I actually want to see this one go down also. Ken needs a win before he retires for good like how Couture is, he is goin out on top. It should be a big win for him since Bisping is the future of this sport with no losses and a fighter that should never be taken lightly. Shamrocks retirement after the tito loss was not how I pictured it to be, as much as I like tito i wanted him to lose to Shamrock at least once out of the 3 fights. I hope Ken Shamrock takes advantage of this fight and leaves the UFC like how all his fans wanted him to, with a f'n win.

Well Hamill is still the scheduled opponent according to the wrestling observer.

I really can’t see Ken coming out of retirement unless it’s against a top named fighter i.e. Chuck or a certain Gracie who’s got a thing for Nandrolone.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 light heavyweight winner Michael Bisping will take on Matt Hamill at UFC 75, according to Ticketmaster.com.

The two were supposed to meet in the semifinals during that season.

However, Hamill was hospitalized after his unanimous decision win over Mike Nickels. He was forced to withdraw from his next bout — and a date with Bisping in the Octagon — because of the injury.

Here’s the snip from Ticketmaster.com:

“… The full [UFC 75] card is yet to be confirmed, however one fight has been signed that has the entire country’s attention - Great Britain’s own Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping will face Matt ‘The Hammer’ Hamill in a rematch from The Ultimate Fighter 3. This will be the toughest challenge that Bisping has faced yet.”

Hamill called out Bisping after his win over Rex Holman at UFC 68 in March. Bisping responded to the “TUF 3 dropout” in kind.

Clearly, there will be some tension at the O2 Arena on September 8 in London, England.

Let’s hope it’s a better fight than the trash talking/signing
