Breaking News: Gracie Fails Drug Test, Suspended

Mixed martial arts icon Royce Gracie, best known as the slender gi-wearing Brazilian who twisted oversized competitors into knots during the early days of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, tested positive for traces of Nandrolone, a commonly used anabolic steroid, following his decision win over Kazushi Sakuraba, June 2 in Los Angeles, the California State Athletic Commission revealed Thursday.

Gracie (14-3-3) has been suspended from June 2, 2007 through May 30, 2008, and is fined $2,500, the maximum penalty by the CSAC. The 40-year-old member of the legendary fighting family has until July 13 to appeal the suspension to the CSAC.

Calls to Gracie's representatives were not immediately returned.

Physical strength was never Gracie's facet. I think he used so that he could help combat the effects of aging.

Damn that K-1 show had a couple of people on Roids. Jonny Morton refused to take the test and now Gracie. Your right Run he probably used it because of his aging. Plus Lesnar looks like he could be taking something.

I figure most top level guys in mma take or have taken roids at some point in their career,but i would never imagine a Gracie doing it.

Did the Pre-UFC owned Pride organization have it mandatory to test any of their fighters?? I had heard that a lot of the guys in Japan were taking roids. This may be a rumor, but I know the rules are different in some parts of the world.
