In the De La Hoya / Mayweather fight, DLH got him tied up and hooked him 7 or 8 times to the body with the same hand. Was that legal? If so, how and why was it legal; i.e., how did he do it legally?

AdvTHANKSance.

i think it was legal cuz mayweather was holding his right arm, so DLH was allowed to hit with his left arm, even though those punches did NO damage.

if you have one hand free and you're working with it the ref has to let it go.. provided there is nothing illegal happening with the entanglement of the other arms..

The Ref ususally goes on who's arm is wraped around the outside, and considers that person the "holder" As long as he isn't holding on to his mid section (half hug) He can continue to fight. From personal experience I've never seen anybody call a hold and hit less it was to the head.
