Most people in the U.S. are familiar with HBO's "The Sopranos." And from what I understand, there is a monster audience in the UK and other parts of Europe (though they are behind in terms of the episodes). Because of the split sixth (and final) season, a lot of folks have been left hanging. And some, like my cousin, will not pop into the story until they are all the way caught up.

I don't think I'm offering any spoilers here, but merely speculation. That is, unless you haven't watched the sixth season at all. So if you haven't, you might not want to go any further.

My feeling, almost from the beginning of this series, was that it was a distinct possibility that Tony Soprano, the main character, might in the end become a government informant and disappear like so many government witnesses do.

Why do I say that?

Well, for one, that's the way it seems to be these days. Anybody can be a "stoolpigeon." Also, I am an Italian-American, and I have never encountered anyone named "Soprano" in my life. As we know, a "soprano" is someone who "sings," then it may follow that there was a hidden meaning in that surname. I've got to believe that the show's creator, David Chase, had an idea all along as to where this series would end, although I could be wrong about that. After all, who knew how long this show was going to last?

But there's something that tells me the opening shows of the sixth season may have provided a little bit of foreshadowing. Tony is dreaming after suffering a gunshot wound at the hand of his uncle Junior, and he is "Kevin Finnerty." He has a driver's license to that effect, a new job, a different wife (apparently) and finds himself in a strange city (somewhere in Arizona, I believe). Could it be that Carmela leaves Tony in the end, and that he winds up sealing on the New York guys (namely Phil Leatardo) and winds up in the witness protection program, as "Kevin Finnerty"?

I don't know - that's just my longshot theory.
