not a wise idea to stretch before doing anything that is physically active and requires quick movement.

if you don't believe me, look it up.

strecth if you want to, but don't say you weren't warned if you injure yourself.

Skipping with stretching mixed in is usually my warmup. Shadowboxing too, then perhaps a little speed bag just to get the juices flowin'

i'd always heard stretching before excercise helps prevent injuries... so when should you stretch and whats a better way to warm up?

i never liked the effect that stretching had on my body during exercise or sports. i had stopped the whole stretching before thing about 8 years ago. this does not mean that i don't prepare - i do have things i do before exercise/sport activity.

The trainer at our gym takes us out for about 20 laps of a 400 metre oval before every training for a warm up an fitness then we might go in an do some skipping or circle work before we spar or work pads.

Easy easy way to figure this out. You are a boxer correct? are you going to be jumping up and down? no. Are you going to be doing pushups or dancing? no. What are you going to be doing?
Shadow box idiot.

First of all dont flex your muscles on me pal. I dont know who you are, nor do i care of your credentials if you are going to be an arrogant twit. If you are going to call me an idiot after a valid question please do not respond to anymore of my posts. Now that you started; I asked the question because I dont think shadowboxing warms my elbows up properly.

I just came across this in a newsletter from http://www.pponline.co.uk/

"Dynamic Mobility exercises to boost competitive performance
What you do just before your workout begins has a big impact on what you are able to do during your workout. Many athletes prepare for a training session by carrying out routine stretching exercises, but it’s important to remember that stretching helps to improve your static (non-moving) flexibility and may not do such a good job at preparing your body to move quickly and efficiently.

That’s why I recommend that you focus on ‘Dynamic Mobility’ exercises before every workout.

Dynamic Mobility exercises
Dynamic Mobility training is for injury prevention and performance improvement. Mobility exercises during your pre-workout warm-up period prepare your body for the vigorous movements that make up the main part of your workout. Most sports involve forceful, strenuous activity, and mobility exercises and drills stimulate your nervous system, muscles, tendons and joints in a very dynamic manner. "

The most important thing you can do before anything is to stretch, and even stretch out your lower body. This more than anything else will help you get loose and prevent injury.

After that it’s all preference, but I always though shadowboxing was a good way to start.

Something I always thought was a little different was to do your run at the end of your workout as it really helped to build up your stamina. But again, as long as you are stretched its all preference.

u run after ur done workin out? wouldnt that be counterproductive cuz ur so tired from ur workout u wont have intensity to get a good roadwork session in?

You definitely would not get a great run in, but it really builds up your stamina.
