View Full Version : Best Mobster Movie
Rock Dog 02-24-2003, 10:51 PM I'm gonna say Goodfellas. it's a classic w/ all the stuff Tommy pulls, the great narration done by Hill and most of all the sinister but magnetic Jimmy Conway. To top it off, it's a real story hardly imbellished, in fact a lot of stuff is taken out. They do say the main character was hadly what he appears to be in real life,Tommy was also a blundering fool and Conway's sadistic nature was almost revolting. I still like the movie, it has a great story line and you can watch it over and over again. scarface is a close second, Montana was so bad ass, and unlike a lot of the Sicilians he's not a fat and ****y **** sucker who has to shoot you behind your back; just a regualr hard ass who bought into the American dream. I also liked a less known movie called Brother. It's about the Yakuza and this ordinary puser. It's a lot like Boondock Saints. Others of note are Godfather II and I (lil too romanticized though) Donnie Brasco and Bronx Tale. I thought Casino was pointless and a lot of early ones i have't seen. I know Jimmy Cagney was in a classic where he really over acts a death scene. In an episode of the Sopranos Tony watches it around the time when his motehr died and he first started having panic attacks. Anyway post away, make me feel special and that my threads count.

rtbrouwer 02-25-2003, 08:05 AM without doubt I have to say the godfather trilogy.... When you talk about best to watch gangster/mob movie I say scarface but all time best gangster/mob movie I say godfather..
What I mean by this is that scarface is fun and good story. Loads of action and very brutal.. Good to watch.
Godfather trilogy is more then a movie. It is a myth. Based on a true story. All 3 movies are well about 3 hours (part1:200mins / part2:200mins / part3:170mins) yet there is not a single boring moment in it. It is one of the very few trilogies in which all 3 parts are good (as opposed to kickboxer, rambo, rocky etc)... The movie is set up brilliantly, the cast is good and there are a couple of wise lessons that keep comming back troughout the whole series.

Tha Playa 02-25-2003, 08:33 AM I have to agree that the godfather parts I&II are the best. I didn't like part III nearly as well though. Goodfellas is great also.
JasonLeonardOBE 02-25-2003, 08:39 AM Screw Coppola and Scorsese. This film was a true work of art.
