Just a few words about Judging in Australia.

Got to say, think we're one of the better countries around when it comes down to fair judging with international opponents - very few home-town decisions, which is pretty exceptional.

Seen a lot of bouts where there are close rounds & the visitor gets the benefit of the doubt, maybe doing the slightly better boxing with the local guy maybe a little more aggressive, & I've been kind of impressed at the even-handedness of things.

However, when it comes to local boxers fighting each other, seen some pretty dubious stuff.

What really used to irritate the hell out of me was the constant favouring of aggression over skills, no matter how ineffective it was.

Really great way to build world-class boxers - penalise the guy trying to actually improve.
No wonder so many fighters flopped when they start fighting good international opponents.

Think it has improved in the last couple of years, but would be interested in other peoples opinions.

yeah probably a fair call. aussie crowds will go nuts for the fighter having a real go rather than the fighter landing crisp jabs. thatll sway a judge unfortunately.

but yeah australia isnt too bad i spose. i think our philipinos are a bit harshly treated at times.

Agree that the local Asian fighters sometimes get a rough deal - tend to be brought over strictly as opponents & if they do better than expected don't get a hell of credit for their effort - Philipino's, Indonesian's & Thai's tend to be in the same boat.

A lot of the judges seem to favour the promoters boys.
Also some of the matchmakers in Australia are dreadful. They should not be allowed near a boxing ring.

This is a real problem and is killing Australian Boxing. The Mundine - Soliman card was a fucking joke. So was the Mundine - Green come to think of it.

They're called soup kitchen fighters, they've served the likes of Shannon Taylor and many more very well over the years in getting a world rating and eventually a world title shot, which never comes to fruition.
I think they just do a round trip every couple of months and throw them in that boat your talking about. I think Fenech's the captain. LOL.
