infestacide 06-02-2007, 11:54 AM stella is pretty popular as a wife beater in britian isnt it?
yeh its known for making people violent
stella artois aka stella illtwatyou aka wife beater
infestacide 06-02-2007, 11:58 AM i have also heard our fosters is popular over there... YUCK i thinks its just about our worst.
mgkirkpatrick 06-02-2007, 11:59 AM yeah fosters is foul. i like those new platinum extra drys.

infestacide 06-02-2007, 12:06 PM squeeze some lemon in water... thats about how strong american beer is...
!!! Beowulf !!! 06-02-2007, 01:02 PM Only half decent Aussie beers we get over here are Toohey's and VB. I hate Fosters.
But then I prefer good British beer like Fuller's, Theakston's, etc. Stuff with flavour.
velvet fog 06-02-2007, 01:31 PM Large US brewers (bud, miller, coors) are shit, ill give you that, but there are some damn good microbrews/craft beers made here. Bell's, Stone, Weyerbacher, Rogue, Dogfish Head and a lot more that are a lot better than any import i have ever had.
I worked in a liquor store with thousands of beers so I have tried a lot of them. There are some really good belgian beers (Delerium, chimay) Sammy Smith makes a couple good beers (Winter Welcome, IPA).
Point being, dont judge US beers on Budweiser or even Sam Adam's for that matter, there are some good brews from over here.
Stella Artois is piss water-no taste
infestacide 06-02-2007, 07:19 PM i have sampled quite a few american beers, and the only 1 i thought tasted non commercial was from a micro brewery,... name has escaped me, but it had a blackberry/current taste to it aswell... like some sort of mix?
cameronhayward 06-03-2007, 05:53 AM Tooheys Extra Dry Platinums are the bombshiz, the only beer i can drink while sober, then i can drink pretty much anything.

how can a beer that strong taste that good. one of the great mysteries. :notworthy
The Monk 06-03-2007, 03:32 PM Is crown lager aussie? If so that is quite a decent one. Fosters aint that bad, when im on a tight budget I often sink a few. My all time favourite is coors, i know it a yank beer but it is sooo nice.
macman 06-03-2007, 03:43 PM Cooper's has always been my favorite Aussie beer.
Tend to favour German beers for foriegn stuff.

Yep Crown Lager is another Aussie beer and my favourite of the local blend.
Of the importeds I like Asahi from Japan. Very nice drop which was surprising.

infestacide 06-04-2007, 12:36 AM i never really got into the crownies myself. Ok a top 5 for you...
1. Maes
2. Grolsche
3. Carton Premium Dry
4. Coopers Pale Ale
5. Beez Neez / Tiger Beer
boozer52 06-04-2007, 01:10 AM i agree american beer is shit
That's because all you get/see is the Buds/Coors/Miller shit. Come to the US and try some of the micro brews. There are at least 10 great micro breweries in San Diego country alone.

To be honest you couldnt even pay me to go to the states

The US can be a very nice place, it's definately worth going. Certainly not for the beer though.

That seems like a pretty narrowminded thing to say. I can understand not wanting to live here (keep in mind we have enough people here already and don't want anymore), but I think everyone should travel and experience different cultures/countries and to exclude a country like the United States would be rediculous.

Have you had any of the craft brews in the US in the past 5-10 years. There has been an explossion of craft brews that are really good. Have you ever tried anything from Russian River, Ale Smith, Three Floyds or Stone? That being said, most of the beer produced and drank in the US is shit lagers.
We also get a decent amount of good imports as well. And no I'm not talking about Corona, Heiniken, or Guiness.
porlie 06-04-2007, 02:14 PM Are their any proper American beers?? not lager I mean proper beer like John Smiths, Tetleys etc.

I have travelled around europe, been to hong kong/singapore and malaysia to, but america still holds no interest to me.

We don't really get US speciality beers over here. Best we get is Sierra Nevada and Sam Adams (both very cheap).
Every country has some crap beer. Most of the big European beer producing countries have big breweries that churn out a good pint though along with plenty of smaller top quality places making top notch beer.
infestacide 06-04-2007, 11:04 PM i can tell you one thing, i have never had a bad beer from belgium
!!! Beowulf !!! 06-05-2007, 06:18 AM i can tell you one thing, i have never had a bad beer from belgium
Stella isn't much good though, but for the cheapest, crappiest belgian brew its better than the cheap shite from other countries.
infestacide 06-05-2007, 06:28 AM i have been drinking truckloads of maes..
!!! Beowulf !!! 06-05-2007, 06:43 AM i have been drinking truckloads of maes..
You ever had any Kwak, mate? Now that's a top notch Belgian beer.
infestacide 06-05-2007, 07:13 AM i have tried it in sydney, but its extremely hard to get out my way. I liked it, but only had 1 so i think i might have to take a trip to get some more.
mgkirkpatrick 06-05-2007, 08:36 AM ok now lets have a look at the worst aussie beer...

Melbourne Bitter is the beeriest beer of all beer, its awesome
Crown taste like shit in QLD but in Melbourne there good because of the water used, same as just like VB

Indeed. Love it. Don't give a shit what anyone says.

!!! Beowulf !!! 06-13-2007, 08:29 AM bud is terrible lol. and xxxx isnt much better imho :P
Too bloody right.
Bud is as bad as Fosters.
mgkirkpatrick 06-13-2007, 02:31 PM i can actually handle the taste of XXXX. shame shame shame.
BostonGuy 07-01-2007, 07:49 PM I just recently started drinking "Stella Artois" and find it has a pretty flavorful yet crisp and dry taste. As for Budweiser, I used drink it by the gallon but now I rarely touch the stuff.

I bet you don't buy stella by the pint glass in the pub though. I found that they don't when i ventured across the pond.
Plus Yanks don't batter the wife after 8 pints of it.
OASIS_LAD 07-02-2007, 07:30 AM Nothing beats a can of "Wife Beater"

What's the difference if it's in a bottle, can, or pint glass? And I don't get the 'wife beater' reference...
!!! Beowulf !!! 07-02-2007, 03:29 PM What's the difference if it's in a bottle, can, or pint glass? And I don't get the 'wife beater' reference...
Stella is nicknamed 'wife beater'. Because after drinking Stella some people apparently beat their wives. A pint glass will obviously be bigger than a bottle or a can.
Stella is okay, not the worst cheapo lager. If there isn't any decent Czech, German or other Belgian lager in a pub then Stella will do.
infestacide 07-02-2007, 07:59 PM there is a huge difference between a bottle and a can. Drinking beer out of a can should be illegal, it tastes tinny and flat and down right bad imho.

whole heartedly agree.
schooners are my favourite beer holding device. :beerchug:
!!! Beowulf !!! 07-03-2007, 04:56 AM I'll never really drink beer from a can, a bottle is certainly much better.
mickeyb 07-03-2007, 08:23 AM Its true, taste can vary from vessel to vessel.
I always think you can tell more from soft drinks than beer though - i mean, drink coke from a bottle and then a can and you can tell the difference.
BostonGuy 11-03-2007, 03:42 PM Do you guys in Australia have many American imports, specifically 'craft beer' like Sam Adams, Harpoon, Sierra Nevada, etc. ?
msagrain 11-03-2007, 03:44 PM we get 20 cans of foster for £10 over here what the price over there?

Wow, you just brought back memories of my Foster's drinking days and the funny commercials that used to be on TV....
Btw, what happened to the "How to speak Australian" Fosters commercials? I loved them...
