View Full Version : Hagler - Hearns 2 Bob Anomaly 05-31-2007, 09:22 PM Im sure most have it for Hagler. But i was thinking if Hearns this time clinched up close, and tried to box Hagler??? Brockton Lip 05-31-2007, 09:33 PM I think Hearns would have a good chance. He fought the wrong fight against Hagler. According to Steward, Hearns didn't have great legs for that fight and wanted to get Hagler out of there early and on top of that, Hearns broke his hand. In a rematch, I wouldn't have been surprised if it went either way ceboxer15 05-31-2007, 09:42 PM I think Hearns would've done better in a rematch, but I still feel that Hagler would've KOed him, just not in the 3rd round like in the 1985 fight. Bob Anomaly 06-01-2007, 08:08 AM I just wonder if Hearns could hurt Hagler at all. If Hearns stamina wasnt that great, maybe Hagler's relentless pressure would of finally got to him in the later rounds. Maybe it would be similar to Hearns - Leonard 1, Hagler needs a KO to win. jack_the_rippuh 06-01-2007, 10:47 AM Steward always has excuses for his fighters when they lose. Hagler would've beaten Hearns again anyway. Hearns hates pressure. hemichromis 06-01-2007, 01:31 PM if hearns boxed more he would have done better but i still think hagler beats him porlie 06-01-2007, 02:56 PM Yeah Hagler would beat Hearns again, he'd always be too much for Hearns. wmute 06-01-2007, 03:46 PM The rematch would have happened after Hearns beat Shuler. That would be the sluggish Hagler that fought Mugabi, so I would give a Hearns a great chance if he decides to boxe. titoi 06-01-2007, 04:47 PM That would be the sluggish Hagler that fought Mugabi, so I would give a Hearns a great chance if he decides to boxe. The Mugabi who lost to the sluggish version of Hagler would have destroyed Hearns. As I recall, Hearns never wanted any part of Mugabi. Mugabi could hit almost as hard as Hearns and had a chin almost as good as Hagler's. Of course, after that epochal fight, neither Hagler nor Mugabi would ever have the same spring in their step. I suppose that if Hearns were willing to run like a bitch instead of fighting, he could have beaten Hagler as he was an amazing boxer. But unlike their over-lauded contemporary, Hearns was a man of character not a bitch and would have engaged with Hagler. And lost again. Hydro 06-01-2007, 04:52 PM Hearns could've tried to box, as he did in the middle of round 1 against Hagler before Hagler cornered him and got to him, but I don't think it would've work. Hagler switched his game plan from the usual patient boxer-puncher behind his right jab to being so aggressive and applying pressure to Hearns, and it worked. Hagler would most likely do the same in a rematch, and Hearns would be forced to fight rather than move (as he did when he did fight Hagler) and eventually get stopped. Hearns would have a better chance since Hagler was continuing to slow down, but I still have a hard time picking him to win. wmute 06-01-2007, 05:00 PM The Mugabi who lost to the sluggish version of Hagler would have destroyed Hearns. I see what you are saying, I just thik along different lines: If he could have won by "running", he would not have been a bitch for doing so. He was rather stupid for not doing so. Mugabi skills are not comparable to Hearns and we prolly agree on that, a few years before that fight, Hagler would have just outboxed him. Let me add to increase Hearns' chances that the fight would have been scheduled for 12 rounds only. Let me clarify my position on the 2 fighters: if Hearns at any point in his career fought a 15 rounder with late 70s Hagler, he would lose 10 times out of 10. BROOKLYN CESAR 06-07-2007, 06:24 AM I think hearns would win!!! He came very close in the first one!!! Haggler even admited that he was very close to going down!!! Rudypoop 06-07-2007, 07:03 AM Hagler beats him 10 times out of 10. He stood up to Hearns best shot, he had a mental edge of Hearns, where if they ever fought again, Hagler would get him out of there either at the same time or a little later as the first fight. number6 06-11-2007, 08:00 PM Hearns would have a much better chnce in the rematch if he learned his lesson from the first fight and used his boxing skills, but i would still have a feeling that Hagler would find a way to get to him late on and force a stoppage. vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
