View Full Version : Why is it that everyone keeps comparing the sport of Western Boxing to MMA!!??
Palma 05-28-2007, 01:01 AM The majority of threads I have read so far have been comparing boxing to MMA. The two sports are entirely two separate entities. I see the relevance of discussing PPV show casing boxing vs. MMA as valid arguments (which is more exciting and brings in more money, etc?) but to compare the two combat-sports against one another is as non-productive as comparing a kick to a punch.
I'm ****ing sick of it, and I've had it up to here.
Every other thread is made by a 15 year old virgin who sparred with another 15 year old virgin at the "gym" and his "trainer" told him he has "handspeed". Stupid boxing wannabe ***s.
I'm seriously starting to dislike boxing in general because of it's fanbase.
the traveler 05-28-2007, 01:14 AM LOL at disliking a sport because of its fanbase. That's as childish as it gets.
I'll say this, though--I've never seen a sport hype itself up as much as MMA does. Nearly everytime I read an article on MMA or watch an MMA show they're talking about how their athletes "are the most skilled in the world" ,how Benard Hopkins wouldn't last a second in the ring with Matt Huges, how boxing is dying, or whatever else bs they want to spew. It's laughable.
Palma 05-28-2007, 01:23 AM I have read those articles too, but that was only because the MMA people decided to retaliate to the non-sense that some pro boxers have been saying about MMA as sport and its' fighters. It's not only boxing people that are taking shots at MMA and its' athletes, it is also the pro-wrestlers. Bottom line is this, if an MMA person were to meet a boxing professional in the ring (boxing rules only) 90% of the time the boxer will win. I say 90% cause there is always a punchers chance the MMA guy will knock out the boxer. If these two same fighters (boxer and MMA person were to meet and the plat-form was MMA rules than the MMA would win. Again, the boxer would have a punchers chance of winning, but the odds would be against him.
Now if these two fighters (boxer vs. MMA) is an alley fight, then it would be anyones fight.
You cannot compare the two sports or its' atheletes against one another because they are both two different animals.
It's like comparing a rugby player to a football player. It doesn't make sense!

Dutch door action.
You hate MMA because of it's fan base. Thanks for playing but talk about hypocrisy at it's finest.
Oh and BTW why are you posting in this section? stick to boxing.
the traveler 05-28-2007, 01:38 AM I agree. I used to get caught up in it, but I don't care anymore. I respect MMA fighters--not so much grapplers. I just get tired of hearing the MMA pump themselves up. I understand they may feel the need to respond, but it seems like they're doing it too much.
The way I see it is that though an MMA fighter may be able to take a boxer, I still have the utmost respect for boxers because, in my opinion, it's the toughest sport out there and can cause a lot of damage on you in the long term. Boxers are the real gladiators to me.

More ignorant bull**** that belongs in one of the multiple "Boxing is sooooo much better than MMA" threads that already plague the NSB section of this board.
Save it, nobody gives a damn.

Bro, don't put words in my mouth. I never said I hated MMA because of its fan base. What I did say is what I find annoying that MMA does. I like MMA and I post here because I want to post here.

No no you don't like MMA.
9/10 of your ridiculous posts about MMA are centered around hating. You don't know anything about this sport, and you have no intentions of learning anything except for reiterating the same tired nonsense about how:
"Boxers are tougher"
"I love boxing so much more than mma"
"I've never in my life boxed or fought anyone but I like them both"
It's annoying, redundant and just reinforces how you're not contributing to this section of the board......more like detracting from it.
I'm sick and tired of *****es like you whining about comparisons between the two sports. It's ruining this board.
the traveler 05-28-2007, 01:46 AM LOL. If you don't give a damn why are you taking your time to respond to it? You can call it ignorant, but I feel that if you compare the deaths that have happened in boxing and the brain damage a fighter can sustain and the fact that top heads in MMA agree that boxing is more dangerous, I think my opinion of boxers being gladiators is far from ignorant.
Again, I think you should calm down and think with the sh1t out of your brains. Nowhere did I say that's why I think boxing is better. I said that's why I like boxing. Different things, do do
the traveler 05-28-2007, 01:49 AM You're a dumbass. 9/10ths? Do you even know what 9ths is?
I challenge you to tabulate every single posts I've made about mix martial arts on here and take a percentage of which ones are what you say they are. It's far from 9/10ths. Again, you're trying to speak for me and say what another person's opinions are and I find that so extremely funny. You are a complete sh1t brain, and I'm going to refrain from responding to you anymore for danger of my IQ dipping.

Should I spell it out for you Corky? NINE OUT OF TEN. DURRR NINETY PRTHENT.
I've read enough of your stupid ****ing posts to point out that you have no business discussing mixed martial arts. You're an idiot.
Nice try on playing the "OH I LOVE MMA WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT DICK?" card. That was just downright laughable.
-Antonio- 05-28-2007, 02:12 AM Im so tired of it. Both sports should just not mention eachother at all.
Palma 05-28-2007, 02:54 AM You both made good points, but I strongly believe that we should just ease up on the comparison of the two sports. If you guys want to compare something compare Judo vs. Jui Jitsu. The two sports have more in common than boxing and MMA anyways.
Palma 05-28-2007, 02:29 PM From seeing all the threads this morning posted on the board I see that my message about how non-productive comparing MMA to Boxing has been a waste of time. :banghead:
MOREBASS 05-28-2007, 03:18 PM Honestly, I'm a fan of both boxing and MMA.
I think boxers and boxing fans feel threatened. Threatened that MMA is on the rise, while one could argue that boxing, at least on a national level is on a decline, with the exception of the Oscar - Mayweather fight.
But even that, to the casual fan, was a bust. Maybe not from a financial standpoint, but at least to 95% of the people who I've talked to about it.
So boxers and boxing fans, try to discredit MMA, without actually knowing how much its evolved since its open weight class, no holds barred style from the 90's.
After going to the UFC event on Saturday, I realized that a lot of the people who are UFC fans now, were the ones that were turned off from the boxing scene, because of lackluster fights, and not enough of ' the best fighting the best '
Nodogoshi 05-28-2007, 04:47 PM i for one am pretty sick of the bickering between the two sports, I am a big fan of both but I find it ridiculous how guys like mayweather sit on their purch and talk **** about how unskilled these guys are, yet everyone knows there is know chance he'll back it up. I didnt mind when Cintron made the comments, because A. he actually knows grappling so has an idea of WTF hes talking about and B. you get the feeling that hes a guy who actually has the credentials to compete in MMA, and it is not entirely unbelievable to think that we might even see him fight in MMA one day. That said though i dont particularly like alot of the **** the MMA guys say either, especially Dana White's phaggedy fruit cake ass. Its just that all the self hype is really annoying and all the **** talking is generally in really bad taste coming from him IMO. But when it comes to fair and acurate statements about MMA coming from boxing guys (whether good or bad) I dont see a reason to ***** about it, and visa versa.
