View Full Version : More hate: Emailing Seldom
The Jake 02-21-2003, 07:32 PM This is what I get when I try to email your work address. NOTE: This was sent before we left for Adelaide.

Basically there's no route to your work mail server.
Your work needs to get their **** together. No, really. Tell your system admin. You might get a promotion. Explain that the outside world cannot email them. Period.

Curly Howard 02-21-2003, 07:33 PM you can email me.
seldomTap 02-21-2003, 07:34 PM No ****...you are the only person this happens to! Shara's get through, ones I send from home get through. People from other offices get through...have you got the address right?
The Jake 02-21-2003, 07:48 PM OK... I didn't want to do this:

This is traceroutes from three tier 1 ISPs within Australia. All three end up at the same point before they indicate problems.
I try and telnet thru to your work mail server on port 25 (this is SMTP - how all email is sent). I should be able to make a connection but I'm getting timeouts. This is why my mail server is bouncing it back.
None of them can route through to your mail server at work, so I can assure you that something is very very very wrong.
I got your email and I noticed that the mail server that email originated from is very different to the one given in DNS.

seldomTap 02-21-2003, 07:48 PM I just emailed your optus address...have you got it yet?
The Jake 02-21-2003, 07:49 PM I got your email. I tried sending to a different address to see if it works.... lemme know if you get mail (if you do, note the email address I sent it to).

seldomTap 02-21-2003, 07:49 PM Well I'm ****ed if I know...I'll have to ask around on monday when some of the lazy admins are here
seldomTap 02-21-2003, 07:51 PM Will do...waiting now
Curly Howard 02-21-2003, 07:52 PM is it long distance to email Australia

I can't do this from here but what needs to be done is someone check the DNS records for your domain name (that's on your work email address after the @). Check the MX records against numerous name servers (telstra, optus & connect are a good start).
I'm willing to bet you should see some discrepancies there. You can claim the credit and get a promotion for highlighting the ineptitude of certain staff there.
- The Jake
seldomTap 02-21-2003, 07:56 PM It is a pricey game Curly!
5 minutes, no sign of Jakes email yet
The Jake 02-21-2003, 08:01 PM Yep, your work network is truly stuffed.
Bear in mind I've emailed from two of the networks described above and both times I get the same error. So it's not just my end here.....

Believe me...incompetence and ignorance are good grounds for promotion around this place. I am trying to be as inept as the rest, but it hurts me inside

seldomTap 02-21-2003, 08:05 PM I need to cause some serious network damage before any promotion is thrown my way it would seem.
My current TL can't even use ****en Outlook correctly...she is foreign to electricity
The Jake 02-21-2003, 08:21 PM OK - hotmail it is.
Pretty sad state of affairs when a Microsoft owned service proves more reliable than your work email....
