Ok this guy walks in 2 hours late and I still have to spar him..

Ya don't gotta tell me about being on the inside.. I was trying to stay there to smother his power but as you can see his shots were still strong no matter how i blocked..... He could turn me whenever with his power ..or try and keep me on the ropes.. guy was strong like a lifter.

Enjoy and lemme know what ya think. I finished these 2 toight i'mma try to do more 2mora.

Versa has raw talent for real.I find it funny that you dissed his sparring mates but his spar partners was better then yours. you was having trouble with this guy who clearly was trying to wrastle with you lol.

I'll take that as a HIT to my endurance...sicne the guy came in so late and I was dead tired. Plus trying not to get knocked out by Clubber Lang.

I thought you looked good. I liked how when you would land 3 or 4 nice shots you would back up and let him compose himself again, that shows real sportsmanship. Also, when you saw an opening, you wouldn't blast him.. especially with those left hooks. You'd paw at him with it so he'd cover up.. seriously, good job. You obviously showed your dominance over him. :boxing:

Oh, and this thread is about DA1CATAS sparring, not Versatile. Keep Vers outta this.. not to mention Vers is pretty humble and wouldn't want him being brought up anyway.

I am not bringing up versa just to diss this dude!
I just saw versa's sparring video a while back and DA1CATAS was talking big...like oh your sparring mates need to test you..or something about the quality of sparring.

But yet Versa was outsized and Wrecked ****.

So far Versa looks to be good potential he just needs to train harder, eat healthy and sleep and breath boxing he has the good though like a little tyson all he needs is the stamina of a guy like pacquiao or aaron pryor and he would be pretty deadly.

I am not going to critique you skills or anything, but I will say that that guy is NOT 260. I am 250 and I am twice his size, there is no way he ways 10 pounds more than me! He looks more like 190, no where near 260 dog.

I'd say he's somewhat lighter than 260 as well... 200-220 range.

With that said, you actually looked decent. I'd like to see you box more at a distance though, because the stuff you guys were doing in there might be fun, but it wouldn't hold up in a real fight (amateur, at least). Especially against a guy your own size, who'd have a lot more speed and movement than that guy.
You're good and have potential, but there's a lot of work needed. How many am fights do you have, I forgot?

Edit: You should have practiced moving from his power, instead of smothering it. Against a powerful fighter with a real workrate (that dude wasn't doing much), going close is the last thing you want to do.
Remember that sparring is practice, therefore practice what you'll need to do in a fight.

I'm sorry man but I'm just guessin you can't tell by watchin the Vid or sumthin... That ***** is exactly what he he said he was.

Thats what I was goin by and thats also how I felt he was hittin... I'm sorry but no 190 pound n!gga would be able to keep me against the ropes with 1 arm..... Theres 180's and 200's that come to the gym and its like sparring someone my size but he definately wasn't one of them.. maybe his gut or sumthin.


Thanx alot for watchin. maybe he jacked himself up on the weight but not by much he didn't. I'll Asked him to jump on the scale officially today. and edit ...Thanx again.:tapedshut

I was dead tired coming in though..Cuz we already did my workout before tis guy walked in.
Should I have stayed outside as tired as I was?
I thought It'd be easier for him to land a straight punch if I was outside and because Of my lack of headmovement because of fatigue... So I tried to rough it out on the inside. Was that a big mistake?

Also no one else came to gym to spar so he was all I had... The 3 time Florida State champ a few weigth classes lighter should be in soon.

A bunch smokers/toughman but none against boxing competition.... hurt ribs and no trainer has stopped my florida debut since those things are illegal my new trainer said.

Anything else you see Glaring? You can pm it if you have so much. Thanx Alot!

Well I can say happily I'm finally in the 160's... but I might even be getting lower than that... lol and I feel the same way about seein guys my size spar.

Well since i'm fighting on June2nd My trainer has me sparring atleast 3 times a week... Usually I'd only spar about twice the week. heavybag everyday even saturday. And I workout out everyday except sunday. but my gym is doing bad so We don't have alot of sparring partners anymore.. we have to leave to other gyms to spar sometimes.

You look good. just keep ya guard up a litle. Also your jab straight punch looks good and it looks clean and crisp when you throw it. by the way how old are you? overal though you look good keep up the hard work :boxing:

First of all props on posting the vid. I, like most others ,thought you did better in the 2nd round. I think you did a decent job of 'suffocating' the guy's power, but like PunchDrunk was sayin' that can be a pretty dangerous tactic, and the bigger guy can turn it on you in a hurry. I can't remember which thread it was, but some guy was knockin' your handspeed, but I think it's good, especially for 16oz gloves. Ye, I guess you seemed a little gassed, but anyone who claims they can go full speed after 2 hours of training is bull****ing, or they're slacking ass in their training. I suppose I'd work more on your outside game, that's where the points are in the amateurs. But overall, I'd say you got game, haha.

Btw, is it just me, or did he elbow you 30s into the 2nd round?

Yea man thanx it helps alot.

And The am's are fought with much smaller lighter gloves also.

I maybe shoulda stayed on the outside but I didnt wanna get caught with a straight right against such a big guy as tired as I was... I figured I'd take the hooks to the body and make him work while I ripped shots to his body.

Fair enough. It's not like it's gonna hurt your progress to fight that way this once. Just don't make a habit of it. As long as you understand that sparring is practice, so survival mode is not the way to go, you'll be fine i think.

If that dude was 260 you should of boxed circles around him and used a slip game but you lack defense and footwork,you should not let a guy corner you like that find a way out.
Dude you talking big the guy is not 260! looks like 210 tops.

I dont wanna see you against a smaller guy they might box circles around you and make you look worse then this guy who wrestled you in the corner.

why you sparring when your burning out? doesnt your trainer know what he is doing? ever heard of peaking? a good trainer wont ever let you over exert yourself and overtrain because by fight time you will gas out from working past your peak.

keep that in mind.

You seem to be tryna down this dude alot.... The video wasnt that bad, and im pretty sure that those punches are coming quicker than it seems.. its diffrent watching a vid, and actually being in there

Yea I smothered him because i didnt want him to catch me with a straight punch.... He's way stronger and I was already tired... Not trynna get knocked out or anything so I figured I'd take the body shots and wild hooks instead.

Dont buy into that he was tired crap that he is spewing.

Because he posted a shadow boxing clip of him and he still threw some slow punches and combos...watch he is gonna say but his arms was sore from doing pull ups and dips in that video lol.

People got to remember this is just a sparring session not a HBO fight. He's workin on improving his **** and it looked like he was helping the other guy too cause he could have rushed him a couple of times. Other than the speed I was impressed. You were finding good angles and working to the body really good too. Good Job man.

The video looks pretty good to me. Here's some of the stuff I liked:
-You were putting together good combinations
-You pick your shots well
-You controlled most of the action against a bigger opponent (maybe he said 216 instead of 260 though? either way still a lot bigger)
-You took his shots well
-clinched and protected yourself well when you were against the ropes

What I didn't like was mostly addressed by your being tired, but I'll just list them anyway:
-how much time you spent on the ropes

The video looks pretty good to me. Here's some of the stuff I liked:
-You were putting together good combinations
-You pick your shots well
-You controlled most of the action against a bigger opponent (maybe he said 216 instead of 260 though? either way still a lot bigger)
-You took his shots well
-clinched and protected yourself well when you were against the ropes

What I didn't like was mostly addressed by your being tired, but I'll just list them anyway:
-how much time you spent on the ropes

People got to remember this is just a sparring session not a HBO fight. He's workin on improving his **** and it looked like he was helping the other guy too cause he could have rushed him a couple of times. Other than the speed I was impressed. You were finding good angles and working to the body really good too. Good Job man.

Its hard to make it a knock on your endurance without seeing what you did before the sparring, but if the fatigue was changing a lot about how you fight maybe you should work on fighting through and masking your exhaustion... because you should count on being fatigued in your 12 round fights to get those belts you're always talking about.

One thing I was wondering is do you normally stay inside anyway or was it only because you were trying to neutralize this guys power? It seemed pretty natural for you to keep coming forward and pressuring him so maybe thats your style in general?

why you sparring when your burning out? doesnt your trainer know what he is doing? ever heard of peaking? a good trainer wont ever let you over exert yourself and overtrain because by fight time you will gas out from working past your peak.

keep that in mind.

Both gyms i've boxed with have always had sparring at the end of the session.

We were ok to spar when we were ****ed - so when we get in the ring to fight we were pushing ourselves, and used to being extremely tired whilst in the ring. You gotta make your body used to being able to function even though your shutting down through fatigue. Even if you feel like ****. Because come fight night nervous energy and the adrenaline knocks it out of you.

Of cause everyone knows about overtraining, but sparring at the end of your workout doesn't mean your "peaking" or whatever that means.

I believe you did a good job of taking on a much heavier opponent. Nice job of landing those body shots. Just stay on the outside as much as possible with a guy like that.

DA1. I think that was impressive. I was impressed how will you pick your shots. I liked how you smothered him and made him stay covered up.

You also demonstrated why not everyone can do the shoulder roll. Id like to see less of your wide looping right hands.

Your hand speed could have been better, but when you are volume punching like you where, its not important. You need to work on your head movment a little bit.

Yea that really looked like a wrestling match. Well i am a outside fighter and rarely will you catch me inside like that especially against a stronger , bigger fighter. You should let him tire out by making him miss. But you got good combos man, decent hand speed. I would like yo see you fighting fresh and against someone your size.

sometimes i'll get in REAL close if my sparring partner has an extra-ordinary reach advantage over me. Don't know if thats teh best thing to do. But i know it hurts alot less than being boxed from the outside from a larger and taller opponent.

He was waiting for your uppercut with his glove cupped downward a few times, so that's why I say he has decent defense.

When that ****er gets you on the ropes and pushes against you just get very low, belt line low, clinch and spin to where your back is not on the ropes anymore...It's what this good middleweight used to always do to me when I'd clinch. After you spin, move right foot back and unleash a left uppercut. Train hard, keep up the good work man. +K!

you need to not put so much power in your shots and loosen up against this guy...maybe u r a lil muscle bound or sumthin. You could try doubling up to the body and coming up to the head fast though. You could also pop the jab out to the bigger guy and as he runs in bring the left hook in to push his weight off balance but cover yourself with your left shoulder... I'm always sparring bigger guys and I terrorise them haha check out my videos aswell by going on my space and looking at the threads started by me ive posted 2 bids for download check em out yo!!!!
