View Full Version : Something to think about RE: Brock Lesnar
GhosT^x0 05-09-2007, 04:35 PM Lesnar finished his amateur career as a four-time all-American, two-time big-ten Champion and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion, with a record of 106-5 overall in four years of college.
106-5 in point-wrestling matches.
Flex Magazine had him on their cover lifting a 300 lb. dumbbell.
In a Royce Gracie K-1 appearance, Royce announced that he was training Brock.
All pro wrestling hype aside... this man has serious potential to hurt someone.
So.... with all this news about Kimbo fighting Mercer, who looks forward to seeing what Lesnar is going to do?

Of course im looking forward to it...the guy is a beast...Him against Bob Sapp would be like pro wrestling though. His debut is when again? hear he is fighting someone almost as big as him:s cant wait

He debuts on June 2nd against the giant Korean from K1 Choi Hong Man in LA. I dont think if he fought Sapp it would be like Pro wrestling at all/ Lesnar at the very least is on a wrestling level like Josh Koscheck was when he first started fighting and could take down Sapp with ease and work him on the ground.
Liaison 05-09-2007, 08:01 PM Well he’s been tooled by guys weight who were giving 100lbs to him in training so that’s no good but maybe he’s past all that now. But this is a tough challenge for him, a very hard one for a guy making his mma debut and if he were to win, I’d be really impressed.
Thing is despite having all the talent in the world and he’s a money hungry **** who seriously lacks the discipline to become a player in MMA.
2swell k-wells 05-09-2007, 08:27 PM the guy he is fighting...7'0? how much does he weigh in? In UFC they give guys with like cro cop easy fights for their 1st, hope he sticks around. I have a feeling he will get owned, not because of how big his opponent is but he just wont have what it takes. K-1 is mostly standing, is there any takedowns allowed? dont watch k-1 sorry:D

the giant one 05-09-2007, 08:32 PM choi is a korean wrestling champ on top of being a pretty good k1 fighter. Lesnar definetly does not have an easy task ahead of him. He could end up eating a huge muy thai knee very easily

this is what i'd be worried about if i were lesnar, he's got the wrestling skills, but in the standup - especially against a good kickboxer he could get owned very badly
Squezze 05-09-2007, 11:42 PM I'm amazed. Return of Ghost himself. Welcome back, bro.
Gotta say, I think this fight could go either way. Choi's got a freakish reach advantage, and we don't really know how well Lesnar can take a punch, so Lesnar could end up getting picked apart from a distance. But with Lesnar's wrestling abilities, you know he's gonna put Choi on his back at some point, and I doubt that Choi has much of a ground game.
I'll go with Lesnar by decision.
I'm just excited.
I want to see what Brock brings to the table. I'm aware that he might not have the fight coordination people would assume.....meaning when he gets tagged he might slow down and look like a hurt Bob Sapp but let's not forget.
He's a big, strong athletic specimen. Maybe he's the real deal, well................I think and I might not be alone but Bean showed some metal last outing against Zulu: So maybe Brock is in the ballpark.

True Brock definitely has the wrestling skills, but lets see how he reacts when he gets hit flush in the face.
1bad65 05-10-2007, 01:44 AM His wrestling is top-notch. Like others have said, his standup and ability to take a punch are huge question marks right now. As is his submission defense.
Kevin Jackson was an Olympic Gold Medal winner in wrestling. He was submitted by Frank Shamrock in 16 seconds with an armbar. He was caught in his next fight with the same technique, just by a different opponent. Some guys have holes in their games, often times it is submission defense. We shall soon see with Lesnar.
Nodogoshi 05-10-2007, 04:40 AM This is a tough first fight, but I have the feeling that Brock'll get the ground and pound working, but it depends alot on how Brock comes in which is a big ?. But I think the wrestling'll cary him at least for this fight.
Palma 05-13-2007, 12:25 AM I am really looking forward to following Brock's transition into MMA. I am curious to see who else from the Wrestling entertainment business will follow in his foot-steps. The Japanese pro-wrestlers have been very successful in Pride so I do not see brock failing in his endeavour to being a contender in either Pride or UFC. Anyone have any news about Cung Le and when he is fighting next? He was hyped up as being the next BIG thing, but he seems to have fallen out of the circuit.
Yeah see he's obviously trained in catch somewhat I'd assume......also I read somewhere a while back that he could bench press over 800 pounds.
Not that sheer strength is the way to go always because it is a fight, but then again if he's going to hang his hat on something that should be it.
I mean ****, who wants to clinch with a guy that strong? He'll tear someone apart like a ragdoll. Like stated that would be a huge deal if he just makes the transition and gets shots at bigger names.
He and Kharitonov going at it would look like two polar bears fighting. Also Joshy boy but he's just a real fighter and I don't think I should be discussing anything like that at this point.

How do you know this?
1bad65 05-13-2007, 02:17 AM How do you know this?
I do know Pat Militich gave at least one interview where he commented on Brock's training and progress when he first started training there. I don't remember all that was said, but I'm thinking Liaison is referring to this.
It is not uncommon for someone at a 100lb disadvantage to tool someone who they have a significant technique advantage over. I have tapped out someone with a weight difference of about 100lbs myself ONCE. I've rolled with two others about that big too and I did get tapped by one, but he had to work alot to do it. The other one we went for 5 minutes and neither of us tapped the other. I'm only a blue belt by the way, most any brown belt or above will smoke me regardless of weight.
American_Ninja 05-13-2007, 02:36 AM I'd like to see some video of Lesnar preparing, anyone got a link?
1bad65 05-13-2007, 03:21 AM I would ask around at sherdog.com or mma.tv those have very active mma boards. I prefer mma.tv myself.
.Mik. 05-13-2007, 08:56 AM When is Brock's first pro-fight then?

I wonder how close their weight is. Hong Man is tall as **** but Brock looks pretty damn thick

Close reliable sources, it happened couple months back
