Not only did I take one of the biggest punches of my life last night, I immediately delivered two of the biggest punches of my life a splitsecond later. The force of his punch knocked me back (it was a right cross as I was coming up from a weave), and as I was shifting my weight back into my guard, I fired off a pair of cannonballs that you could hear across the gym as they smacked off his head. (He had stopped to, as our trainer says, "take a picture.")

"**** ME? No, **** YOU." :owned:

This was a big step for me. Big punches -- the ones that leave you seeing electric purple Chee-tos -- usually shut me down psychologically. This is the first time I've been able to immediately return fire. Moving up in the world. . . ..

I was just coming back to my balance, and realized it was a perfect time to throw a falling-step jab and a bodyweight cross -- I was originally hoping to just launch a couple of heavy punches into his gloves to back him off and remind him whom it was he was ****ing with -- and when I saw he had his guard down I freakin' nailed him.

He was still talking about our exchange tonight.

Thanks, all. This was a major, major step in my evolution as a boxer.

it feels good when u hit them right back, doesn't it? when i get hit, it makes me want to punish the other guy. i fought one guy who made me see stars, it felt real good when i snapped his head back with a right hand

It wasn't so much wanting to punish him as it was just a matter of finally chaining it all together; the shift in bodyweight back to my guard driving the combination, and real damn fast: I came back right over the top of his gloves as he brought his right back to his chest -- instead of his chin, where it should have been.

I never bleed from my nose, but then again, i haven't really got a bone in it.

If i get smacked hard i usually lose my hearing for some reason. It kinda feels like i've put my head under water... if that makes sense.
