View Full Version : Best Satnd Up Fighter in MMA
Kempo Chris 02-12-2003, 11:58 PM Who do you guys think has the best stand up in MMA.
I think Lidell has the best stand up
I think Silvas standup is awesome, he is one of the best stand up fighters, but i think he is a little to wild
realkaps 02-12-2003, 11:59 PM Liddell and Belfort.....
Curly Howard 02-13-2003, 12:02 AM right now and no I'm not jumping on the band wagon but I will say Duane Ludwig.
Kempo Chris 02-13-2003, 12:07 AM I see big things for him in the near future
seldomTap 02-13-2003, 12:18 AM Mirko, Ludwig or Liddel.
Silva is awesome, but a top level striker can and would get him eventually.
Belfort in the old days was awesome also. fastest hands in MMA
Twista 02-13-2003, 12:21 AM silva always gets out punched, he got stunned by sakuraba....sakuraba punches like an old lady

I think Liddel has the best stand up in MMA. Lebanner and Crocop's stand up are improving in MMA but are still more geared toward K1 and are vulnerable to the takedown. Silva is too wild and gets hit a lot. Even shungo oyama dropped silva with a punch.
LukeDothSucketh 02-13-2003, 09:39 PM TANK ABBOT. **** ALL OF YOU.
realkaps 02-13-2003, 09:46 PM Why am I the only person who has Belfort on my list?
Twista 02-14-2003, 12:42 AM belfort is not really a stand up fighter anymore, maybe in his next fight we will see him punch good again, but he wasnt very good against liddell, the old vitor could kick the shit out of liddell IMO
realkaps 02-14-2003, 12:52 AM I though he was doin pretty good agains Liddell, landing some nice highkicks.....
Twista 02-14-2003, 12:57 AM look at him in that one and him in the other fights, he looked pathetic, he barely punched or kicked at all, and he should have stuck with the takedowns, he woulda beat liddell IMO if he would have got a 3 month notice or something that far

Twista 02-14-2003, 01:04 AM well, he didnt win, he didnt look like he was very ready for it, that was about all of him in those pictures, i think there was a total of about 15 punches in the whole fight from vitor, and maybe 3 kicks, but man his takedown rivals the best in mma, not even randleman could take down liddell, but vitor did quick, not saying he did anything with that but i'm just saying, next fight should be good, i cant wait, maybe ufc43?
VulgarTheClown 02-14-2003, 03:39 AM Jon Hess was the best striker EVER!
Twista 02-14-2003, 07:37 PM hey vulgar, one of those people in that picture beat him without getting hit once
VulgarTheClown 02-14-2003, 08:38 PM are you kidding!?
Hess was robbed in that fight.
IT WAS A FLUKE!
Twista 02-14-2003, 08:39 PM ok, then i think we should have a rematch and see what happens
VitorBelly 02-15-2003, 05:13 PM YVEL

Fallout 02-16-2003, 03:03 AM Ludwig Mirko and Rizzo
Ludwing and Mirko are k-1 level strikers so that shouldn't surprise anyone. They are amazing strikers but Ludwig is average at best on the ground. Mirko is getting there and already has a great sprawl.
Rizzo would be the best MMA striker without a doubt if he was just a little more aggeresive.
ktfo Josh Barrnett. Josh was beat Rizzo up to that point mainly because Rizzo was just sitting back looking to counter. He needs to be a little more agressive.
Rock Dog 02-16-2003, 05:32 PM Hands down Mirko, Bas, and Ludwig are the top 3 strikers in MMA of all time. Vitor, LeBanner and Shribjer, Telligman and Yvel are all runners up. However, Liddel, Rizzo and Igor have used it the best of any. Cro-Cop hasn't impressed me that much as a MMA, LeBanner so far is nothing short of pathetic, Ludwig hasn't had enough time to consistently proe himself, Vitor is like the old gray mare, "just ain't what he used to be" Schribjer and Yvel haveno ground game. Actually, Yvel did last w/ Horn and is prabably improving, but still he needs to prove himself. Igor got owned in K-1, but his power is great and he downed a lot of top guys, Rizzo and Liddel aren't on par w/ their the K-1 weight equivelents, but know how t keep it standng and land that KO punch, plus they've got tevlar jaws. Bas is older now, I wonder what it would've been like to see him stand-up w/ Cro-Cop, he's definately a much better fighter over all. If Bas had a longer tenure in the field of MMA i woud rank him number 1 or 2 among those who use striking best in MMA/NHB. If he comes back and is given Silva, rest assure he'll leave w/ the belt and even most heavyweights will find him more work than they can handle.
Perchdogg 02-16-2003, 07:09 PM Ludwig, Cro Cop, and Bas (Bas may be a cut below the other two).
These three are the true greats of striking in MMA.
To a slightly lesser extent, Maurice Smith.
To a lesser degree, Pedro Rizzo, Anderson Silva, Pete Spratt, and Yves Edwards are all fantastic MMA strikers.
After that grouping I would say perhaps Pele, Yuki Kondo, and Gilbert Yvel (slightly less technical than the other fighters I mentioned).
Mr. Beelzebub 02-16-2003, 07:53 PM Best striker in MMA?
Pedro Rizzo
Gilbert Yvel
Wanderlei Silva
Jose Landi-Jons
