View Full Version : Treach
Bucktown Beast 04-25-2007, 06:00 PM This guy slips through the cracks in any and every MC conversation...Not sure if its an oversight by most people or if heads don't think he really had skills...but in my opinion, he deserves an honorable mention. He could rip and displayed good lyrical skills. Not a top ten MC but if someone rated him top 20 or so I wouldn't argue...He did his thing, who gives Treach his props...
MetalVomit 04-25-2007, 06:01 PM I think I could slide Treach in the top 20.
oldgringo 04-25-2007, 06:07 PM I think I could name 20 better than him, but that's not a discredit to him really.

True. Probably the same for me as well...although I would say after top 12 or 13 most MCs are probably interchangeable.

yeh...you get to a certain point and it's just splitting hairs.

Not in this mans book. LL is one of the 5 best to do it.

lol, LL. If you want to give him props as a historical figure cool, you can't deny his place in that sense. I personally don't have him ranked that high as a pure rapper though. I absolutely think treach gets overlooked. There was almost no one as lyrically advanced as he was in the early 90's. His flow from the early 90's can stand alongside those of all later lyricists without sounding old or outdated. Who else can you say that about from that period?
-Antonio- 04-26-2007, 05:18 AM Got me listening to Here We Go over and over now.
sisforshaq 04-26-2007, 11:23 AM I never was deep into Treach so Im not to familiar with a lot of his skills, but I would agree LL is a top 10 mc no question.
ROSEWOOD 04-26-2007, 01:27 PM Treach was nice...Hell NbyN was nice..

The nature of rhyming has changed, the nature of hip hop has changed. There are very few guys that I think sound "outdated" today that were doing their thing in the late 80's/early 90's. You put LL Cool J on a track with your 5 favorite emcees today, support the song with good production, and he'll offer a memorable verse. I think the same would probably be true for Treach. Just look at KGR. He's been in the game forever and you'll be strained to find tracks where people steal his shine. Those guys all have an appealing rhymestyle. I wouldn't say that Treach was more lyrically advanced than guys like Face, Pharoahe Monch, etc...
Getting back to LL, it would be bold to say that Treach was a better rapper than LL Cool J...if that's what you were getting at.

Treach is a very underated rapper. I remember the first time I heard Ghetto Bastard & was blown away by him & also The Chain Remains was ill too. He was definitely ahead of his time & he's in my top 15. What else can you say about LL. He's one of the best & his longevity speaks for itself.

Yes it does, whos still in the rap scene from the 80s? Not alot of ppl, that in it self speaks volumes, knowing how u can be a 1 hit wonder in this business rather quickly.
ROSEWOOD 04-26-2007, 05:18 PM He has a song that highlights all that..it something like "Before ______ was doing this, I was doing that"

lol well I am that bold. Ofcourse i am just talking about a pure skills comparison though. If it were a "greatest artist" discussion then LL would certainly win because his historical contribution is many times more significant than treach's. I was just never really a big L.L. guy, he was always image to me. I thought early on Moe Dee was superior and later on Kane and Rakim were superior. He was good for the ladies though.
Dynamite76 04-27-2007, 10:59 AM Treach was definitely better than Tupac.
