Ok I was watching this fight over and over cause I like to see a underdog like Gonzaga win but when Cro Cop went for the kick and Gonzaga took him down from there. Gonzaga was throwing elbow bombs on cro cop, winning the round with domination then when there is little time left the Ref (Herb Dean) stands both fighters up when Gonzaga was VERY busy on the ground. I've seen fights like Matt Hughes vs Chris Lytle where I think it was Herb Dean, Let Matt Hughes lay on top of Chris Lytle for a win. But Gonzaga was doing damage and still got stood up, u think dana/ref wanted cro cop to throw a KO kick?

You think Cro Cop is the new golden boy and Dana was helping him out for a win and title shot at Couture?? What you guys think about this? Has anyone else noticed?

It wouldn`t surprise me if the Dean was 'briefed' by White before the fight. He couldn`t stop that kick to the head though.

LOL yeah he couldn't. Dana had big plans for Cro Cop and once that kick landed it ended. I wouldn't doubt thats what Dana told Herb Dean keep the fight on their feet as much as possible.

That standup was a bad call. First off, Gonzaga was active. Second, a ref should warn you AT LEAST ONCE to get busy before standing a fight up.

Simple, Herb can foresee the future, he knew what would happen next…

They should've got McCarthy to ref the damn main event, what happend to him? guess dana knew John McCarthy would call it the fight as he see's it, and knew herb dean would take dana's advice and help out cro cop if anything were to happen.

Seems like we're seeing Big John less and less every month. Is it possible that he's slowly phasing himself out? Maybe he's contemplating retirement, or semi-retirement. I mean, the man has to have refereed more MMA fights than any other ref.

I don't know about him refereeing more fights than anyone. He seems to only do UFC now while Dean and Mazagatti seem to be everywhere doing smaller shows and even the Pride US events.

Big Jon still has more experience calling a fight though, Dean sucks as a ref and should be fired.

Dean is hot/cold kind of ref. Sometimes he does a perfect job, like Sylvia/Mir and other times not so good, like the CroCop/Gonzaga fight. Dean also has fought MMA himself.

I felt sorry for GG when they stood them up until I noticed how timid Mirko was, then BAM!

that is not a reason to stand fighters up. The Ref stands fighters if they aint doing nothing..for example Josh Koscheck lol. The ref always tells the fighters to "do something, or im gonna stand you up"
They dont think "oh the crowd aint gon like this" then stand them up hah.

no..but i thought Joe Rogan would say something because he always speaks play by play action.
In the past Joe Rogan also points out that if he(fighter) dont keep busy the Referee will stand them up...but Joe didnt say a thing when they got stood up..pretty stupid, but if he did mention the uncalled for standup then more peeps would be talking about it.

Joe was talking at the time they got stood up, it sounded like Goldman said "oh thats a shame" but Joe and Randy were talking at the same time

It was like he already had it pre determined in his mind that Crop Cop would win standing up, so he stood them up, only to witness Cro Cop almost get his neck and leg broke with one kick...
