View Full Version : Cro-Cop just learned the difference between K-1 and UFC
GattiFan 04-22-2007, 01:10 AM Its called getting KTFO by a nobody.
Who...has fought nobody....
And then he kicks Cro-Cop's head completely off his body.
Anyone saying Cro-Cop dominated cause he was fighting lesser men?
Even the nobody's in the UFC anymore are lethal.
Granted...its still boring as hell between KO's.....
But man...I love it when living legends that MMA guys squeal about for years get F'ING OWNED by unknowns.
JAHamilton77 04-22-2007, 01:20 AM White must be smiling alittle bit inside. Maybe it cost him a few bucks to sign Cro-Cop, and he wont get to market him now, but a beast from one of his top competitors (PRIDE) just got destroyed in the Octagon.
THE REAL NINJA 04-22-2007, 01:23 AM I just want to see Cro Vs Arlo
As boring as a show Arlo put on and after Cop's loss it might be a good time for it .
PHX_NINJA 04-22-2007, 01:36 AM One word comes to mind after seeing that fight.... WOW!!
-Antonio- 04-22-2007, 01:40 AM How good is the Fedor guy they talk about? Hes in pride as well correct?
living_legend 04-22-2007, 01:42 AM How good is the Fedor guy they talk about? Hes in pride as well correct?
exactly...the pride followers here sure are quiet now about the ufc....
RunW/Knives 04-22-2007, 02:12 AM Yeah whatever. *hangs head*
IncuFan 04-22-2007, 02:32 AM This fight shows that really anything can happen in MMA.
robot_monkey 04-22-2007, 02:34 AM crocop is generally overconfident and i think he underestimated this guy
i think he and arlovski will fight next
fedor is still the man and probably would take gonzaga OUT!
JAHamilton77 04-22-2007, 04:53 AM exactly...the pride followers here sure are quiet now about the ufc....
To be fair its happened the other way too where UFC fighters have been beaten in PRIDE rings. But I cant recall a name this big making the switch and getting upset so badly.
MMA is a strange bird, and I dont follow it that closely.
robot_monkey 04-22-2007, 06:48 AM that is a stupid statement, because the ufc pride war does not concern gonzaga; he just came into the ufc...its regarding bums like liddell, sylvia, arlovski...etc.
I believe if you take any mixed martial artist too seriously as a striker, you overrate them lol.
Ranger2408 04-22-2007, 10:50 AM what got me as how cro cop could be so easily caught, he saw it coming and didnt even try to block it or move.
Squezze 04-22-2007, 12:10 PM what got me as how cro cop could be so easily caught, he saw it coming and didnt even try to block it or move.
He probably got caught so easily, due to the fact that nobody thought Gonzaga could or would throw a high kick. And you can't really block a high kick in MMA. It's not like boxing or kickboxing where you have the large gloves. High kicks go through defences in MMA like a hot knife through butter.
Liaison 04-22-2007, 02:19 PM He’s ignorant, plain and simple, a really good case of the Naseem Hamed syndrome, he believed in the hype and thought he was gonna steam roll his way to the title. His first comments on Gonzaga were that he was a bum and his road to the title was made so much easier, really anybody who thought this guy was a bum if ****ing retarded (he was No1 Contender when Tim had the title FFS).
What the **** was he trying to do last night? He wasn’t throwing anything when they were standing. He waited forever just to throw that first kick. No punches or anything.
He needs to change it up quickly and first things first, he should learn to jab.
mic573 04-22-2007, 03:12 PM It's called getting caught and getting knocked out. Cro Cop thought the kick was going to the body so he went to defend his body.
Bucktown Beast 04-22-2007, 03:38 PM MMA and boxing are no different in reference to the term "expect the unexpected".
Raham KO Lewis?
Douglas KO Tyson?
Tarver KO Jones?
All incredible upsets nobody expected...one strike is all it takes, especially with heavyweights. Even a mediocre heavyweight hits hard...and at the top of the scale with heavyweights for instance, the strength of a person's strike usually exceeds the chins ability to absorb it. CroCop has lost by KO before...
kayjay 04-22-2007, 03:42 PM Bucktown what you say is true in principle, and the examples are good ones, but in boxing it is pretty rare. It's easy to pick the winners of pro boxing matches because there are fewer variables. Each fight boils down to one or two things whereas in MMA something completely unforeseeable can happen.

Yea I would agree thats theres more chance of the unlikely to happen in MMA...theres so many more ways to beat your opponent. I was just saying that CroCop is an incredible fighter who got beaten by a relative unknown while the same happens in boxing albeit less frequently.
I think the reason it happens less in boxing is because it is a more difficult skill to master. Some may disagree with what Im gonna say, but in boxing since you only use your hands you have to skillfully polish the way which you use them. MMA is like a freestyle event...because you can kick, punch, grab and slam does not make it harder, it actually makes it easier. MMA is closer to street fighting and most people have the instinct to do what is necessary in a street fight. But instinct doesnt help you master throwing straight punches and combinations. As well as learning to snap, sit on your punches, use footwork and defend all at once. Thats why many MMA fighters tend to punch rather sloppy because they don't have the time to truly master the boxing side of things cuz it take so much practice.
If you put me and another guy in a cage and just told us to hurt each other any way we can, we would accomplish it with flying colors. But put us in a cage and tell us we can only use our fists and it becomes an entirely different ballgame. I'm a big fan of both sports and both take incredible stamina and courage...but mastering the art of boxing by itself is much harder
Juggernaut 04-22-2007, 04:12 PM Werdum has beaten Gonzaga, so arguments of UFC > Pride and Pride > UFC are irrelevant. Organizations don't train the fighter.

he could have easily stepped back like he did before when gonzaga threw a body kick
robot_monkey 04-22-2007, 04:14 PM the strength of a person's strike usually exceeds the chins ability to absorb it. CroCop has lost by KO before...
joe was talking about how that dude had no chin and a small head

I think most guys are comparing the style of fighting and the pace when they talk about pride vs ufc - yellow cards make a difference (last night arlovski/werdum should have had yellow cards)
Liaison 04-22-2007, 04:19 PM yellow cards make a difference (last night arlovski/werdum should have had yellow cards)QFE
This is so ****ing true.
Juggernaut 04-22-2007, 05:01 PM I think most guys are comparing the style of fighting and the pace when they talk about pride vs ufc - yellow cards make a difference (last night arlovski/werdum should have had yellow cards)
I totally agree. I was yelling "Action!" while watching that fight.
PROUD MEXICAN 04-22-2007, 06:21 PM that is a stupid statement, because the ufc pride war does not concern gonzaga; he just came into the ufc...its regarding bums like liddell, sylvia, arlovski...etc. EXACTLY!! AND THAT GONZAGA GUY IS NO BUM EITHER, LIKE I HAD POSTED ON ANOTHER THREAD. GONZAGA'S RESUME PRIOR TO HIM FIGHTING IN THE UFC IS PRETTY SOLID. THAT'S WHY COUTURE HAD PICKED HIM TO WIN VS. CRO COP(EVENTHOUGH NO ONE EXPECTED GONZAGA TO WIN IN THAT FASHION) AND PREFERRED FACING CRO COP OVER GONZAGA. GONZAGA'S GROUND GAME AND SIZE WILL MAKE HIM A FORMIDABLE FOE FOR ANYONE IN THE UFC OR WHATEVER IS LEFT OF PRIDE. CRO COP I GUESS IS KINDA LIKE PACQUIAO, ONE-DIMENSIONAL AND EVENTHOUGH THEY'VE HAD HUGE SUCCESS IN BEING ONE-DIMENSIONAL, SOME FIGHTERS WHO HAVE NEVER FACED BOTH WOULD RATHER FACE A CRO-COP OR PACQUIAO BECAUSE THEY SEE ALL THE HOLES IN THEIR "GAME"
