....Chappelle is the king right now. His delivery and his style is second to none.
urdaddyinAZ 10-15-2004, 12:14 PM Currently.....Chris Rock and Chappelle are both awesome. I also really like a lesser known standup guy named Pablo Fransisco.......I see him every time he comes to Phoenix, if you haven't seen him before..he's a must see.
I love the classics too Pryor and Eddie. For some reason white comedians never make me laugh as hard as minority comedians...and I'm white! I can't explain it.

Did someone just step on a duck?
oldgringo 10-15-2004, 01:23 PM Rodney might be the king of one liners. that's why I thought of this thread.
I never thought Carlin was as funny as everyone said he was...but I saw a stand up routine of his awhile ago (Carlin on campus) and it made me laugh.
I'll have to check out Pablo Francisco sometime.
Boxerdog 10-15-2004, 01:34 PM My favorite comedians include Pryor, Dave Chappelle, Louis CK, Redd Foxx, Sam Kinison, Carlin, Letterman, Conan....
I think Lenny Bruce is the most over-rated ever. Chris Rock is getting tired.
Guys like Carrottop, Gallagher, Jay Leno should be shot.

Explosivo 10-15-2004, 02:30 PM What about Robet Schimmel? Any of you guys like him? I think hes pretty good. I also like Bill Maher for intelligent comedy.

Bill Maher IS often funny...his new HBO show has been consistently good. My only problem with him is when his jokes DON'T work, he blames the audience for being to dumb to "get it".
WRONG, PECKERNOSE! Sometimes the **** just AIN'T funny....happens to the best!

if you ever watched Richard Pryor live you will know why, white guys just aint cool, remember the snake thing? where he goes on about how they react differently to snakes.
Black guys are plain cool,
The Fix 10-15-2004, 06:23 PM back in the day eddie murphy was hilarious. right now i would say chappelle or carlin

Woody Allen was hilarious back when he did stand-up. Intelligent, yet crazy juvenile.
{BrownBomber} 10-15-2004, 07:18 PM I Thought Damon Wayans Had A Concert That Was Pretty Funny Back In The Day. Murphy And Pryor R My Favorites Though.
Bubba Chunday 10-15-2004, 07:38 PM Bill Hicks, all his stuff is still so relavent and true today. He's so inspiring.
Eddie Izzard, i met him recently, he just atarts talking about wierd things for no reason! I like surrealists.
I really want to listen to Richard Pryor
marvdave 10-16-2004, 11:36 AM No doubt the best ever was Richard pryor. You must see Richard Pryor Live in Concert, and Live on the Sunset Strip. Here and now isn't as good.
others
Steve Martin (original, one of a kind)
Bill Cosby (doesn't swear, but tells a great story)
Rodney Dangerfield (one-liners kill me)
overrated
Robin Williams-gives me a headache
George Carlin-too bitter
new age
Chappelle is hilarious
Someone mentioned Schimmel..I agree
tracylee 10-16-2004, 11:42 AM I always thought Richard Pryor was the man. His "Ni**er on Fire" always made me laugh so hard I cried! :D
marvdave 10-16-2004, 11:44 AM my favorite pryor routine was the one when talked about Jim Brown coming over to his house to get him off drugs...."whatcha gonna do?"

Listen to 1960s and 70s Carlin - not nearly as bitter and very, very funny. I always thought Cosby was lacking something - he's pleasant but not all that funny.
Steve Martin's Wild and Crazy Guy CD is great. I like the part where he picks a small child out of the audience, a baby maybe, and tells the kid he's going to tell him a very special joke. And it starts out "2 Lesbians walk into a bar..."

Gotta love Mudbone
And the weekend alcoholic bit: Slow down! This ain't no residential area; it's a neighborhood!
tracylee 10-16-2004, 11:47 AM After Richard came out with the one I mentioned, I never even considered free-basing cocaine! Any time it was offered I thought of him and busted out laughing and said, "no, but if you wanna be a dumbass, knock yourself out" !!
neils7147933 10-16-2004, 11:51 AM Richard Pryor is one of my favorite comedians - in the Top 5 - but he's definitely number one in terms of a guy who's jokes get ripped off by younger comedians like crazy.
But I guess he had his influences, too, Lenny Bruce for example.

your right about Carlin, I did use to find him funny. Actually in the 80's he had a good album. The "my **** is stuff, and your stuff is ****" routine. "Cosby, Himself", I thought was one of the greatest stand up shows ever. Escpecially if you have kids.
Steve Martin was so stupid..I loved it. I especially like when he said " I would like to thank each and everyone of you for coming"...and then proceeded to start thanking everyone in the audience one at a time. :D

So you just stuck to sniffing it then? ;) :D

Hey, I wont deny it, I snorted many a line in my youth! I was a wild one as a teen. :)

i agree about robin williams, he was on stage here a few years back for a show for the queen , the royal variety performance (which jim carrey has been on too)
anyway noone laughed at him
 he completely died in front of a huge audience and the royal family, talk about humiliation.
having said that though he fairs far better on film, he is an excellent actor and comedy actor. good morning vietnam is classic :)
m00ks 10-16-2004, 02:42 PM Here are the true kings of comedy
Bernie Mac
Chris Rock
Will Ferell
oldgringo 10-16-2004, 03:32 PM Will Farrell is ****ing hilarious. My favorite SNL guy ever...yes I said it. Better than Farley, Belushi, Sandler, Murphy...he makes anything he's in funny.
I saw a Schimmel stand up routine awhile ago and didn't think too much of him. All he talked about is having sex with his wife...nothing too groundbreaking.
Steve Martin is ****in hilarious too.
In terms of actors...I think Sean William Scott (Stiffler) is rediculous and hilarious as well as Jim Carrey.
