View Full Version : young and new at boxing!
FlaminGuru 04-15-2007, 10:59 AM Hello people, i jus started being interested in boxing and i am
extremely dedicated to this sport! And i do believe i have what it takes!
My dad promised me that he'd find me a gym this summer, so i could go there
and train and hopefully become really good! But for now, i got a heavy bag
a skip rope and weights for shadow boxing, i also use a "pickaxe" and start
smashing a tire! i Also do 100 crunches (on and off) 20 push ups, squats
and i lfit weights (10 Lb only)
I do that every day, and in complete i spend training in my house 1.5 to 3hrs
a day! I also started waking up in the morning at 5:30 and started running
then of course i also have school!
Age: 14
Weight: 112 (yup i'm pretty light)
Reach: 21
I also eat pretty healthy, i drink milk,V8. i eat raw bracolli, apples, bananas
raw carrots, and cheese! So what do u think? Am, i ready? I'm planning on being a boxer in the future, no matter what it would take! i believe i could do it, and all of u can also! I'm planning on doing this everyday, even after finding a gym!
That was a lot to type Lol :tapedshut
IronNick 04-15-2007, 11:06 AM a) please die
b) no one on this site can determine if you are ready, that is up to your trainers, and the ppl who know you.
c) dont use ! so much.
Exige Jr 04-15-2007, 11:07 AM I have what it takes. Its just whether I want to smash people up and get smashed up for money.

No need to be so rude mate.
And to the thread creator; "everyone has a plan until they get hit". Just see how you go when you enter that gym. Don't go in there thinking you're already a world champ because the odds are that you wont like boxing. A lot of people quit after the first session because of the physical and mental toughness that's required to box.
And Exige, I have the same problem as you. And I lose focus too easily sometimes :nonono:
FlaminGuru 04-15-2007, 11:30 AM Ya your right, i've never been to a gym yet, so i wouldnt know much.
Getting hit on the head, makes me a bit cautious, cuz u do lose a lil to much
brain cells, and i have school also, but schools pretty easy.
Me and my fridns used to fight a lot, with boxing gloves (dangerous and stupid) and he got me pretty good, and hit me rite on the jaw, i got stunned
but i handled it pretty good! he was 6"0 also. and i was 5"5. and he weighed 30 pounds more.
Everyone dreams on becoming a professional boxer, and i "think" i have what
it takes, but i wouldnt know if i've never expierence anything yet, i apoligise if i bragged, cuz i was letting ppl know what i'm doing.

I'm a clever kid and I box. Exige is clever and he boxes. Don't be worried about losing intelligence by boxing. You're not gonna get punchdrunk by fighting in the amateurs and sparring (which is all you can do while you're in school).
You'll see that when you go to your gym, all that unorganised street brawling means ****, no matter who you have fought. Fighting in controlled circumstances against trained guys is real tough, tougher than anything I've ever done. But it's also a lot of fun!
You're right to dream. In my opinion, there's no point in doing things if you don't wanna become the best. You might aswell just give up straight away. You'll find out soon enough if you have what it takes :D
And I didn't think you were bragging :fing02:

Yeh it's natural to be scared of the unexpected. Boxing is a whole new world compared to any other sports you'll have played. It's also completel;y different to what you would expect it to be like.
Remember though, go in with the mentality of a winner but don't act too coky. You'll improve faster if you believe in yourself, if you believe you can make it to the top. Because you will push yourself that little bit further.
I started boxing because I had watched it for a while. I'd seen some Muhammad Ali fights, some Lennox Lewis fights and of course the Rocky films and I just wanted to be a fighter. I found a gym last year and haven't looked back since.
I'm hooked to the adrenaline you get when you fight. That's what makes me go back for more. And yes, I also do it to one day become famous and become a pro. I'd love to be a huge star.
FlaminGuru 04-15-2007, 01:43 PM Thanks RageBull
What age u start boxing? And how long have u been doing it? U an amateur? Pro? still sparring? Competed in tournaments?
Do Amateurs get $$$?
Got to stop with the questions!!!:tapedshut
Its hard enough to find a gym in Canada,
And do u think what i'm doing so far is good enough to keep me prepared in the near future in the gym?
marciano207 04-15-2007, 01:45 PM do not work on your heavy bag every day you can hurt your hands kid and good job at getting up at 5:30 to run (I cant do that) you need to be able to do more than 20 push-ups if I were you I would build up to at least 45 push-ups you also need a speed bag or a double ended bag or a reflex bag to help with your speed your gonna need it at 112lbs you also need a slip ball to help you avoid punches

I started at 15 and have been doing it on and off for about 10 months. I'm ready to step it all up and go serious now.
I've not had any fights yet, I need to get into better condition.
Yep, you're doing all you can. Go running, skip, press ups, sit ups and stuff like that.
Chris46 04-15-2007, 02:17 PM I wish id started when i was 14, seriously kid if you stick at it you'll be flying in no time!
FlaminGuru 04-15-2007, 02:57 PM Thanks guys!
And about the speed bag, ya i have it, but having a hard time putting it in my basement.
Yet for speed now, i use 3-5 pound weight bracelets around my wrists
and i start shadowboxing for 30-60minutes.
I' also have aasthma which sucks so much, but my aasthma barely happens
since i do so much of this training, my lungs expanded even more.
(I heard Shannon Briggs has asthma also.)
punchDrUnK MONK 04-15-2007, 09:08 PM yo sup kid.
you sound like your on the right track, if your really into it. then train hard. you have a nice routine going, give yourself another year or so of training (IN GYM) then start amatuers when u and ur trainers and team all agree your ready. it seems like u got the heart, now u gotta get in there and live your dream. thats the only way to find out if its truly want you want in life.
boxing is a great sport, but its rough man, im no boxer, not yet anyways, i been training for about 6 months now. but i realized just recently how much work it is. stay in the game, learn about it, i dunno u might not be into boxing when u hit 17 or 18, but try it out man.
