What's your experience in the sport so far? Don't spar unless you have been practicing for awhile, and can cover up well with your hands. Don't worry about it, I've had my nose busted and luckily it doesn't look bad. Combo 04-12-2007, 01:39 PM What's your experience in the sport so far? Don't spar unless you have been practicing for awhile, and can cover up well with your hands. Don't worry about it, I've had my nose busted and luckily it doesn't look bad. well i been training the past two monthes now, hitin bags and occasionally the pads with the trainer, id be fairly confident in sparin so long as my opponent was in my kinda league, but i know no matter how much i keep my guard up, eventually my nose WILL get hit hard, and my nose is already kinda big and boney, so it probably woundnt take much for it to get a perminant bump. DA1CATAS 04-12-2007, 01:47 PM i want to start sparing but am afraid that my nose will get busted permanently, can anyone help me make a decision? FIRST THOUGHT OFF THE TOP I'm guessing you haven't trained enough yet.... I don't think its just your nose... Usually when people train and start putting things together they develop confidence. If your still not sure if you wanna spar because of your nose then the confidence still needs a lil foundation. A big factor with confidence is who you will be sparring against.. it should be someone on your level. That is a big part of this. Going against someone with too much experience for your level will ALWAYS make you feel and look worse. and this will throw you into to shock whenever you fight someone similar. IF's it is someone with your time or maybe a some over and your still not sure then you should continue training. If you don't know the guy and your just scared then go ahead and do it... thats just the initial fear of getting hit.TRUST ME it will go away after you land 2 or 3 punches. NOW If it really is just your nose.. then im sorry maybe you shouldn't be boxing.. it's going to get hit... I've never bled out the nose but my lips have.. it will happen to all of us somewhere down the careerline... so if its seriously your nose then I think you might wanna pick anothger sport bro. punchDrUnK MONK 04-12-2007, 02:19 PM yo.. first of all the guys who replied above me hooked up some GOOD advice, im simply gunna say my advice cuz i was in the same boat a few months back.. when i first started my boxing training and had my first thoughts about being a boxer and sparring and fighting i was hesitant because of nose shots, and rib shots... but wow, the guy above me nailed it right on the head. the more u train u gain confidence. im confident now, a year later.. i feel like i could spar anyone. u gotta get past the fear of being hit in your soft spots. boxing is a rough sport, you kinda got to like being hit lolol.. my advice is what i did.. train your ass off until ur confident enough to be able to spar 3 rounds. but even if ur confident, u gotta know when youre ready or not ready, like im confident, and got heart i could go in there and spar tomorrow... but i know im not ready, ive never been trained and havent been in a gym yet, so once i get more gym experience and work with a trainer for a few months THEN ill be ready... so u gotta base it all on your own situation, from what i heard u said 2 months training... u said u work with a trainer so thats really good... id say depending on how hard you train, and how often (with trainer) id give yourself about 4 more months before you spar. train your ass off until then. prepare for it. boxing is all about training. u wanna box ? TRAIN u wanna win ? TRAIN YOUR ASS OFF boxing4ever 04-12-2007, 02:46 PM yo your like me combo you dont fear anything besides getting your nose messed up! get a facesaver headgear to train in or get a winning headgear it will be from 100-170 dollars but it will reduce the chances of you loosing your good looking nose Combo 04-12-2007, 02:53 PM thanks for the advice people, i do want to spar, its something that i feel i HAVE to do you know. forgot to say before, two of the trainers at my gym asked me if i wanted to spar sometime, and they only say that to the people that they think are ready. am left handed so i lead with my right hand, but id say that my right jab is one of my weaknesses, am workin on this punch but it's just not comin yet. am not worried about the pain of a punch, just the possibility of the nose issues. Chipper 04-12-2007, 04:00 PM yeah i dont want to get one of those smooshed thick noses that boxers get. like oktey urkal http://www.kontaktrunde.de/boxer-portraits/urkal-boxingpress.jpg duranfly 04-12-2007, 05:07 PM Don't worry about the nose.... If u do u will cover up alot while sparring......But I been sparring for a while and still get nervous before i get in the ring.......Just get in there and throw what u know punchDrUnK MONK 04-12-2007, 06:57 PM good point ^^^ if ur worried about getting hit somewhere, u will be all defense, and might even give it away that ur protecting that certain spot... combo if i were u bro, id find someone around ur weight at ur gym who spars and who ur cool with and go like 4 rounds of soft sparring, like obviosuly dont try finish if somone gets hurt, and dont really throw 100% power punches, maybe one power punch every now n then, but go easy. tell him ur situation u wanna spar and feel it out, tell him not to hit ur nose. if the guy ur sparring is cool enough and understands ur a new guy never sparred b4 and whats to learn slowly, he would help u out. its only 4 rounds right ? tell him u wont him nose either. find someone who will go easy with u for the first time, thats what im gunna try to do. then at least if u do get wacked in the nose, u can chill for a second and know he isnt gunna be hitting it again. he would go downstairs throw light combos while u covered up... im sure u got osme boys at ur gym, just talk to them. Irish0910 04-12-2007, 07:13 PM I have a similar problem but it's not that I don't like to get hit, I just get frustrated when I do and don't counter. I want to be a slick boxer like Toney but I'm not at that level at all so I get pissed at myself and lose the desire to spar for awhile. Then a train for awhile and just get back in there and slowly but surely it's improving. fraidycat 04-12-2007, 07:56 PM Sparring at my gym, in the past year I have witnessed: 2 concussions 2 "out on his feet" KO's 1 cracked rib 1 broken toe 1 broken hand probably 50 bloody noses and split lips But no broken noses. Not one. The biggest, most powerful heavyweights at my gym have dealt each other massive nosebleeds, but no breaks. I got my nose very mildly broken in my first bout (he landed a punch when my headgear was knocked sideways and already pushing my nose over :owned: ) but I've never had -- or dealt -- more than a nosebleed or a shiner in sparring. Sparring is not combat. Well, usually not. :boxing: Combo 04-13-2007, 08:06 AM how often do nose bumps happen from being punched? you know, them dents half way up the nose mgkirkpatrick 04-13-2007, 08:39 AM a crooked nose gives character. haha nah i guess i never thought about gettin hit from the persepctive of what it would do my 'looks'. i spose its a real issue for some people. a busted nose can happen to the most experienced boxer or the least.. if you make the decision to start sparring you have to know that it is a possible consequence no matter who you are. im not being a smart ass but do you want to box more or keep your face straight thats a serious question and i wouldnt judge n e one who picked there face. Combo 04-13-2007, 08:45 AM to be honest, my nose is already pretty screwed, so who knows, boxin might even make it better potatoes 04-13-2007, 11:12 AM i want to start sparing but am afraid that my nose will get busted permanently, can anyone help me make a decision? You will find at some boxing clubs nearly all the guys have broken noses and/or scar tissue build up on their faces. That is because they don't learn proper defense. Although broken noses are an occupational hazzard for boxers, you can reduce the probability of it happening by learning good defensive skills. me2007 04-13-2007, 11:55 AM Manfredo's nose is a good example of what could happen if you block punches with your face skyler 04-13-2007, 12:03 PM Manfredo's nose is a good example of what could happen if you block punches with your face Yeah nobody wants a manfredo nose. DoctorKillJoy 04-13-2007, 12:47 PM Get a headgear with a face guard. Problem solved. Don't buy a cheap one though. I got one I ordered online for 50 and the first time i took a solid shot (not hard but just one that landed) the plastic faceguard cut me right over my eye. I've seen good ones though, usually they're at least 100. shawn_ 04-15-2007, 09:04 PM Im a firm believer that your first sparing session should always be with your trainer. punchDrUnK MONK 04-15-2007, 09:10 PM Yeah nobody wants a manfredo nose. id take a manfredo nose over a eric morales nose anyday Undefeated 04-15-2007, 09:27 PM Your going to get hit in your nose regardless. I busted my nose several times, but if that's what your worried about don't box. YOU ARE GOING TO GET HIT IN THE NOSE. Wether you are getting hit flush or even blocking. It happens. punchDrUnK MONK 04-15-2007, 09:47 PM i agree with this guy ^^^ not only about beign hit in the nose, but if ur worried about gettin hit in general, dont box. u gotta get the **** kicked outta u to learnnnn lol bishop2006 04-18-2007, 08:04 PM Your like me,i dont want my nose 2 get ****ed up like Bernard Hopkins,so i cover it alot,if i get hit i think **** it n go all out,im 18,so i got alot of speed 2 get away from the shots without blocking,i counter punch,IMO its the best way to avoid a punch and hand out a beating Ive only been boxing under a year and im real good, one of the best in my gym,i grew up watching boxing, beleave it or not,if u watch alot of boxing u understand what is right and what is wrong,so i was pretty good when i started, they want me 2 box for them, amateur fights in the summer, but im gna wait til next year, get everything perfect The Donfather 04-19-2007, 12:46 AM Just get out there and spar. Don't worry about the nose, if you are sparring someone who is going to break your nose during a spar, you should not spar with them. When sparring for the first time it usually does not get to intense. Just take it easy, relax, and keep your hands up. I just had my first sparring match a few days ago, and I don't have the smallest nose, and nothing happened to me. I got hit by two hard combos, the biggest thing is getting your eyes watery. Animal Squabbs 04-19-2007, 01:41 AM Don't worry about the nose.... If u do u will cover up alot while sparring......But I been sparring for a while and still get nervous before i get in the ring.......Just get in there and throw what u know nervous?? see I think this might actually be a problem for me. In sparring IM not scared or nervous. I like fighting so much and am so used to fighting that when I sparred Im real laid back and relaxed. That might actually be bad now that I think about it cause the other guy is all built up and **** and anxious, Im in there like IM shopping for groceries. The thing s though that in a street fight I have a very aggressive mean style and I cant use that for sparring cause its only supposed to be light work/practice.:nonono: :dunno: The Golden Boy 04-19-2007, 03:54 AM Sparring at my gym, in the past year I have witnessed: 2 concussions 2 "out on his feet" KO's 1 cracked rib 1 broken toe 1 broken hand probably 50 bloody noses and split lips But no broken noses. Animal Squabbs 04-19-2007, 04:11 AM by the way the thread starter is a *****, I refused to get braces because I was getting into too many street fights and I figured I didnt want to have keep pullin my cheeks out of my braces. Teeth are for chewing, not looks. Noses are for smelling, not looks. Man up.:boxing: I dont care if my nose ends up getting ripped off, I dream of having a title, I dont dream about my nose, if I have to lose the nose to one day win a title then so ****in be it. Animal Squabbs 04-19-2007, 04:16 AM anyway if you really wanna protect your nose then use one of these... http://www.ringside.com/IMAGES/FSH.JPG http://www.ringside.com/IMAGES/RF_detail.JPG http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/titleboxing_1946_33316873 msagrain 04-20-2007, 01:06 PM well it easy as don't let them hit u in the nose njbxr 05-04-2007, 06:12 PM id take a manfredo nose over a eric morales nose anyday ME TOO. Nothing wrog with Manfredo's noe. So its a lil flat. At least its still in the center fo his face. fraidycat 05-05-2007, 01:53 AM Broken toe? How'd that happen? A heavyweight (superheavyweight? Big boy, well over 200 lbs.) either kicked or stepped on another heavyweight's toe. Total accident. My understanding is, the impact bent the toe backwards. I saw it; the toe was black and swollen, definitely broken. mickeyb 05-05-2007, 06:44 PM Get in the ring wuss!! |
