As of right now it seems that...

50 seems to be fading...
Jay-z is there but he probably won't drop another album this year...
Nas is always killing it but hes not very popular with the mainstream...
Eminem isn't really around anymore...
Dre is still talking about Detox like he was 400 years ago...
Papoose is getting annoying because he won't just drop his album...
Still waiting on Raekwon's new album...
Still waiting on Saigon to drop his album...
Jae Millz wanna blow but hasn't yet...
The Game would be really sick if he would stop talking about the Eazy, B.I.G., Pac and that ****. That finally got really tiring for me, I know alot of you been sick of that...lol

Add to this list if you want...

Who is going to become the guy everyone is checking for(mainstream and underground)?

What up Fix,

I've actually gotten into Rakim recently. I wasn't really into his music in the past, but I've been listening to it more.

Maybe I need to listen to him more. I just remember him in the past as a pretty average rapper who rapped mainly about being rich. Has he improved?

To me this thread should be renamed Lil Wayne is going to be the biggest rapper in the next year or two. Boy is young as hell (22) and I wouldn't be surprised if he gon be hott for a while as long as he still bringing up that dedication and best rapper alive I think thats his motivation because Jay Z isn't anything like he ever was, that's if he was anything at all.

I imagine it's hard on you when another rapper comes forward and basically murders your own track..(Show Me What You Got)

Lil Wayne is going to be HUGE in the next year or two, Tha Carter III is going to be great and will go multi-platinum very fast. Nas is the best out there but i doubt he will release another album in a year or two, but if he does it should be great. Juelz Santana's new album will probably sell well and it shouldn't be that bad as long as he keeps Jim Jones out of his songs. Papooses' new album should be very good when it comes out also.

Next NY rapper 2 break out is Saigon,a beast on the mic,and a political rapper, hes been thru some ****,got alot of publicity on Entourage

I would have added Papoose, but ever since he signed with Busta, hes not been 2 good, lately his **** sounds the same

Lupe Fiasco is also gna blow,i think his next albums gna do very very well, alot of people are begining 2 recognise him,and so they should, hes the best thing to come out in a long time

Debut Mc's

Bishop Lamont will blow up the biggest of newer guys, he has Dre's backup is the new "heir" to Aftermath and has a unique flow with a familiar voice. His album will be tight just like Game's debut was, Em's was and 50's was. He will blow up the biggest by far.

Mc's I cant wait to hear...

Royce Da 59' Underrated as hell, he is a murderer on the mic, The Bar Exam mixtape showed it again. Premo is backing the entire album, cant ****ing wait for that ****. Premo could blow Royce up finally.

Lil Wayne Going to enjoy this one to, although I dont think it will match Carter II, looking foward to it.

He is underrated but dude has absolutely ZERO charisma. His best album death is certain is not even top 100 of all time. It is a good album but he lacks charisma and even creativity that all of the GOATS have. I think he should stick to ghost writing for all the big names :duh:

I agree and Royce had a shot when he was with Aftermath but he blew it, but that doesnt take him away from being one of the dopest mc's around. Premo production should be real nice, I guess we will see how the album comes out. I dont think he is a Goat he is underrated though.

Yeah Wayne seems like he's definately going to get bigger. The remix of Cannon is the best Southern track i've ever heard ( "I'll Hellen Keller you n****s"). Nas seems more visible in the mainstream than he has ever been what happens now is up to him. People will continue to pay attention when jay Z does things but I don't see any resurgence. Lupe will keep going. Isn't common supposed to release his new album soon. He is a nice safe image for the mainstream and now has greater exposure, plus respect from purists. I wish Rakim would blow up but i don't see it happening. You have to remember that even in his hay day he played second fiddle to more visible mainstream rappers like Kane. He is a spiritually deep lyric focused monotone rapper that dosen't talk about gangsta stuff so getting attention now will be extremely challenging. Ofcourse I metioned Common being a "safe" mainstream image, the door has been opening for non-gangsta rap since Kanye, Common (the recent return of Common under Kanye I mean) Mos def and Talib, but the ability to exploit that market depends on your ability to cross over (across racial lines). Rakim cannot really cross over like that (or it isn't likely he can).

Well everyone can sit in their own little corner and listen to what they want to but where does that leave the kids who are growing up on this stuff. The mainstream is simply a word for what is visible, it is not a given set of artists.
Control of the mainstream means power over our own culture whether that be black culture, American culture or European culture (for the Brits on here).

In all honesty I think it'll be Lil' Wayne. He's already popular but, he's everywhere as far as guest appearances. It's only going to grow being that he's already a platinum artist. So as far as popularity, I'ma go with him.
