i want to learn computer languages and i want to learn how to write programs.i can not afford school and even if i could i would not go.i want to learn how to do this all in the comfort of my own home.i don't know what kind of programs i want to write.i will figure that out as i go.i know there are many languages that programmers use.i have no idea which ones i need to know, so i will learn that as i go as well.
any links to "how to" sites or books that will teach me the basics is much appreciated.
thanks for the help.

learn like visual basic first, it's fairly simple and has almost a drag and drop type interface (almost) in vb6 and vb .net. after that learning the biggies will be easier, because you'll have a general knowledge of how functions, calls, and variables work.

Programming is something I left behind and have not looked back on or regretted. So much time, so few results. It's worthless.

yup as i told rigid on aim, i tried being a programmer back in 97 when i lived in chicago, it's a miracle i didn't hang myself in the cubicle. i guess it's cool if your writing proggies that YOU want to write that do cool ****, but who can just get the money and pop open a startup in the software biz, and be able to make nothing for the amount of time it takes to be profitable? writing other companies boring software is tedious, and gets extremely boring.. quick.
