is the programs that these sites offer safe?are they compatible with my system?i have a hp with no off the shelf programs, only what it came with.i saw a lot of programs that i would like to run.
i would also like to save some of them and they are to large for a floppy.could i save them to my desktop or somewhere else, like program files and then burn them to a blank cd-r so that i could take them with me???

Download.com is ran by cnet, and they have a disclaimer about this however, they only have reputable software, from the distributer and they claim to run a virus scan on all their downloads. You should be clear to just download them and run them, if your still worried, check for virus's before running. You can have a virus on your system and it not infect it until its ran, or called to be active by another source.

Yeah you can put them on the disk and run them from the disk most likely. But its all going to get installed on your harddrive.
