McAlister 04-04-2007, 01:18 PM Just check this video out, he explains how it has nothing to do with how many crunches or situps you do, infact you can have a nice 6-8pack without doing any crunches or situps

whatevathehell 04-04-2007, 01:38 PM you didnt know this? oh okay, whateva sure dont do situps......hmmm
let me say it like this, ever see a person with a six pack yet there abs were weak?
just cause you dont got a sick pack doesnt mean your abs are weak. I figure abs are like any other muscle, they need to be worked out in order to build them up....ie get stronger, **** what hes talking about.

He was mostly talking about to make them visable, so you can SEE the pack... he did say you can do situps/crunches to make them Stronger... which of coarse I'll do (as well as every other boxer should)
But yeah, He was talking about making them visable
BrooklynBomber 04-04-2007, 02:18 PM Well, its a well known fact that abs are made in a kitchen. not in a gym.
BrooklynBomber 04-04-2007, 02:19 PM Technically speaking, we all got great abs, since we use the constantly, when we breath and when we walk. But if you want the Brad Pitt abs, you gotta work'em out as well. But only like once every 5 days.
ml2niceguy 04-04-2007, 03:09 PM eh...i think you still need to do some kinda ab workout
Well, its a well known fact that abs are made in a kitchen. not in a gym.
bullocks, weak ass abs show if your skinny enough, now strong abs that a fighter needs in order to endure punches is made in the gym.
were boxers not bodybuilders
Darkstranger 04-04-2007, 04:32 PM As far as I know it has a lot to do with body fat percentage and diet. I've also read that it can also be genetic for your whether your stomach muscles show.

But no one here is talking about boxer abs, just defined abs in general and as I said before, abs are already strong muscles, since we constantly using them, and as far as boxing goes, its not as much abs that help you absorb the punch, but the pose of your body. No matter how strong your abs are, if you stay still, a good punch will hurt you, thats why boxers crouch a little.
VERSATILE2K12 04-04-2007, 06:22 PM I bet all the fatties got disappointed from the video.

wrong, strength off abs and breathing technic helps you endure.
no one talking abouy boxers abs? than theres the problem, this is a boxing training and nutrition section not some metrosexual bodybuilding site.
Darkstar 04-05-2007, 06:08 PM What about the guys with low body fat but still dont have abs?
KanMan 04-05-2007, 09:46 PM this guy is a genius
MickyHatton 04-06-2007, 10:16 AM **** me, talk about stating the obvious???
Of course you need a low percentage of body fat to make any muscles truly pop but he is talking from a bodybuilding perspective, add in that, all bodybuilders train their abs as a separate body part so.....he is is only speaking half truths.
To get good abs you need to train your abs hard and correctly and have a decent low fat diet and cardio training plan.
From a boxing or even sports point of view, abs training is essential. You must harden your midsection to protect against blows but just as importantly your abs give you your core body strength therefore they must be trained.
That guy is just trying to be clever!
Also training the abs as with any muscles adds direct resistance to the area you are attempting to tone, how many times have you seen guys on the beach with a beer gut but toned arms and shoulders?, therefore to assist the burning of fat around the middle you must train your abs!
IchiBonDj 04-06-2007, 11:01 AM I want a strong stomach not just nice looking one. Your stomach is the main souce for strength, if your training with weights or boxing (getting punched in the stomach) sit ups/crunches are important IMO.
Back when I was boxing I was tested for body fat, it was 10% and I was 125lbs.
ophqui 04-06-2007, 12:11 PM figthers dont need a good looking six pack, its a side effect from effective training. Fighters need strong core muscles (not just the traditional six pack but obliques, lats etc as well) to improve punching power and absorb body shots. Low body fat should be a side effect of ur training not the main aim.
jersey kid 3 04-06-2007, 12:24 PM Roman Kamazin have a 8 pack how do you get an 8 pack instead of 6
Genetics.

Wrong.
Doing ab work won't burn fat in one area. Their is no such thing as spot reduction. You can't lose fat in one section.
If you have a gut, doing ab work won't do anything for you. You need to get your diet in check, and do some cardio.
yeah..
how do u check ur body fat percentage?
Bodyfat calipers.
JasonB 04-06-2007, 12:24 PM One common mistake though is people forget that the abdominals are a muscle. Don't just do countless sit-ups, do 20 at most. If you can do more than that (as most people can), then add resistance by holding a dumbbell in your arms or a weight plate, and then when you can do say 20 on this, then add more. Think of it this way, would you do a bicep curl with no weight? Would you do 50+ bench presses in a set? No, so why do it for abs.
WolfOnTheHill 04-06-2007, 02:05 PM i gotta bad net connection so i coulnt watch the video,
but am i right in saying that cardio and sit ups will give you a visible 6 pack?

in one way cause you will be burning calories to which will lower your all round bodyfat percentage(with proper diet) but if you have a high bodyfat percentage your abs wont show.
the key to having nice visible abs is through diet but for us athletes we want strong hard abs and core which is why we need to do all the sit ups, crunches leg raises, torso twists to build it up and the low body fat should come along with the intense training AND proper diet
MickyHatton 04-06-2007, 02:57 PM Genetics.

No, to tone the area you must incorporate abs into your workout, read the post. Hence after I mention cardio and diet then I mentioned ab training to assist the process.
the stronger and bigger your abs are the easier they will show
Golden-Gloves 04-07-2007, 02:35 AM I have to say the guy in the video is a moron, "situps have nothing to do with it"
I'm 130lbs, a very fast metabolism, and a body fat percentage of about 5.2% which pretty low and sorry to say, but I dont have an 8 pack, you need a minimum of 3% body fat to help regulate and maintain the flow of hormones and testoserone..
If your overweight, of course dieting and doing a ton of cardio will help reveil your hiddin abs that is under that layer of fat - but just because you lose fat isnt magically going to give you a solid 6 or 8 pack..
If you already maintain a low body fat percentage, and you dont do situps or workout your abs in anyway, you will be decently cut and define, but you wont have a solid 6-8 pack unless you have great genetics, other than that all muscles have to be built, thats done by working them out (situps, weighted situps, medicine ball ect), they will tear and repair as stronger and over time, bigger..
Golden-Gloves 04-07-2007, 02:39 AM Lets say this, Roy Jones and Mayweather have fast metabolisms and a low body fat percentage, do you think they would have the abs they have today without doing situps or working them out?
HELL NO
Bucktown Beast 04-07-2007, 03:18 AM What he says is true. Theres an old bodybuilding saying "Abs are made in the kitchen."
Situps and stomach exercises are the last thing you need to worry about. Diet and fat burning is what gets you abs. But don't be fooled in to thinking that everyone with a great stomach, diets and burns fat. Genetics is a big factor as well, some people have 6 packs and eat pizza every day.
