"During the last two years, we have seen what can be accomplished when we work together. To lift the standards of our public schools, we achieved historic education reform which must now be carried out in every school, and every classroom, so that every child in America can read, and learn, and succeed in life"

He says this, but...

The Senate leadership passed an amendment offered by Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) that provided across-the-board cuts of 1.6 percent, and all Senate Republicans, except for Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) who was absent, as well as Senators Zell Miller (D-GA) and Ben Nelson (D-NE) voted for an amendment offered by Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) that cut programs an additional 1.3 percent to provide funding for an education block grant. Together, these Senators have voted to implement nearly a 3 percent cut
in all programs, including child care, Head Start, and after-school care.

This means that Head Start would be cut by an estimated $63 million below FY 2002 levels and would serve 22,000 fewer children. Child care would be cut by $60 million below FY 2002 levels and would serve 38,000 fewer children. Making it even harder for low-income working parents and their children, the Senate bill would also fund the 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school program at $25 million below FY 2002 levels. More cuts are still possible before the bill is finished.

I watched it....was mildly impressed with what he had to say. He talked a lot more about Iraq than I thought he would....that earned him a few points.

I just want to know who the idiot was that was whistling during the 1763 standing ovations...I mean, come on, it's the State Of The Union Address, rednecks in Earnhart t-shirts should not be allowed in.

I'm an easy going guy but I get so angry when they do this to the schools. Why not cut funding to the senate limo fund or the
presidential hooker fund. We are shooting ourselves in the foot
by cutting education and don't get me started about low income kids not getting a chance. How is a kid supposed to better themselves if there is no help for them?

I just find it ironic that he is talking about helping the economy when this whole war issue is only going to bring us deeper in to the ground. The amount of money being spent on this war when our childre and elders are getting less and less assistance.

exactly....Just think how poor our economy will be with a bunch of under educated adults running around 15 years from now.

any time the economy gets so bad that no one can do anything to fix it we go to war.

Well if you think about it, the more uneducated, mal-nourished a nation is, the easier it is to manipulate.

Pr. Bush is simply a moron in my opinion...... He wants war with Iraq nomather what.... He says that he will attack Iraq unless they can prove that they have no nukes........ How the **** can they prove that? they are doing all they can to coorperate with the Americans but bush is simply a little kid that wants to finish what daddy started..... I can't believe people even voted for that ignorant piece of ****... Gore would have done a way better job.... Bush can't even remember his ****ing speaches, let alone remember what it is to rule a country....... It is a shame to see the world go to waste with him at the top of the world.

Hillary Clinton wouldn't be bad for president.. Anything is better then bush...... That guy is a danger to the world...... He is crying like a little baby about the fact that Iraq would have Nukes (which can't be proven by him) and the next I know I see him giving a statement on the evening news: "It is not our job to prove iraq is guilty, it is their job to prove they are innocent. If we are going to war with iraq I don't block ou the possible use of nuclear weapons"....... I mean come on...... that guy has no ****ing brains

I also enjoy the fact that if a nation does not agree with his decision they are a "problem" nation. HAHAHAHAHA.

What kills me about the whole thing is that Bush talked about tax cuts and what not making things sound pretty. People forget that these tax cuts are going to the all mighty rich, white collar corporate america and in the mean time our children and elders will be left in the cold.

Head Start = Cut $63 Million and it would serve 22,000 less children
Child Care= cut $60 Million and would serve 38,000 less children ( making it harder for low income parents and their kids)
After School programs would be cut (will get exact figures in a minute)
Music, Art, Sport, Media Center would also we removed or cut from the classrooms.

People this Bush did such a wonderful thing by the tax cuts but they dont see this is being done not to help the nation but for prevention of what it is to come during war.
