View Full Version : UFC buys Pride?

Seems like all they need to do is cross the "I's" and dot the "T's". Some of the possible matchups that could arise from this would be mindblowing. I guess nobody should jump to conclusions until it's 100% a done deal. Pride have been known to do strange things, business-wise.
*Everyone in the UFC gets the message that Shogun might be coming*
Squezze 03-20-2007, 12:13 PM I wonder if Zuffa will keep it as a seperate entity like the WEC, or will they just take a select number of fighters and kill Pride dead like the WFA. Fedor vs Cro Cop II, in the cage?? Sounds ****ty, amazing and bizarre all at the same time.
the giant one 03-20-2007, 01:35 PM if Zuffa is smart they would keep it seperate. Why not make serious coin in two markets and then have a Superbowl of MMA type show once or twice a year

jajaja
anyway, I think this is teh suck, Pride Fc is way better in every aspect of MMA.
Im not a UFC hater but I know what I like and I like head stomps, I like quality undercards, I like good production value (not a show dedicated to Xyience with a few fights in between
I mean, Imagine if Randy got KOed early at UFC 68 like he was supposed to, that card would have been the worst thing since UFC 45 and thats ****ing bad
UFC 45 killed MMA in Australia for 2 years, they refused to buy the contract to show PPV's after that until now and we get ****ty matchmaking like 68
IF they sell I really hope they just keep the pride brand seperate from UFC but they wont and it will suck
and I hate the cage
....this is sad

I sure ****ing hope they keep it seperate, Pride is so much better than UFC. I'm already fearing that Pride will suffer from UFC's ****ty match making, I would like to see Pride preserved as much as possible in its current form. I think they should keep the guys running it as much as they can and continue with the shows as they are, although it would be cool if guys from both orgs could start fighting each other, the twice a year superbowl show wouldnt be a bad idea.
Liaison 03-20-2007, 06:07 PM This reeks of Pro Wrestling, when McMahan bought WCW, he choose to have WWF come out on top and only have a WWF and no WCW to feed his ego, bad move for both fans and business alike, hope the same doesn’t happen here.
Would love to see Fedor in the cage, it would benefit his style greatly and he’d become even more dominant
Atnan 03-20-2007, 11:08 PM i thought the frettia (sp?) brothers bought pride...not zuffa.....
who cares much...
Sakurai will clear out the 155/170 division
Hendo will clear out the 185 division
Sogun will clean out the 205 division
Fedor will clean out the 220+ divison
the giant one 03-20-2007, 11:11 PM the fertitta brothers and dana white are the zuffa organization

you a funni dude...you say that iam a noob or something! my mma knowledge > your
On MMAWeekly Radio, they claim that an inside source that they cannot reveal, apparently a "higher up" within the Pride Organization has CONFRIMED that the Fertitta Brothers and not Zuffa, but the Fertitta Brothers themselves, have purchased Pride, the contracts, video library, brand, etc. That wasn't word for word, but basically paraphrased for what was said on Sound Off for those who didn't catch it.
more
"From independent sources by MMAWeekly.com and these sources are.. uh in Japan and close to the Pride organization, so it is confirmed, that the Fertitta brothers, not Zuffa, the Fertitta brothers, have officially purchased Pride Fighting Championships. With that, it has been confirmed they have the fighter contracts, they have purchased the video library, and they have purchased the Pride name."
Squezze 03-20-2007, 11:35 PM Well, Zuffa is the Fertita brother's company, so potato potatoe. Same difference.
Atnan 03-21-2007, 11:09 AM i just state facts...
the frett. brothers bought ufc, not zuffa/ufc/dana

LOL. Zuffa IS the Fertita brothers. UFC is Zuffa. Your facts are somewhat incorrect.

i never once claimed fertita bros are not zuffa or ufc....
i stated the bros bought ufc and the title of the article states, " the bros bought pride, not ZUFFA or UFC"
Squezze 03-21-2007, 01:15 PM No difference, really. Either way, if this really comes to pass, is gonna cause a crazy amount of chaos. Apparently, Pride's contracts are structured very strangly, and if Pride gets sold, there's a possibility of a few fighters becoming outright free agents. Or so the rumors go.

looks like the freitas bros/pride are getting sued for 10 million by fishman ( **** is getting worse and worse)
robot_monkey 03-22-2007, 05:25 PM fights in the cage are not as good as in the ring
krazyx19 03-22-2007, 07:27 PM Pride was suppose to sell it for 100 million to a group of rich dudes but the Mafia wanted the UFC to own it.
Nodogoshi 03-22-2007, 08:09 PM fights in the cage are not as good as in the ring
yeah i agree actually, it takes more skill to fight in the ring too because you have to move around more and you cant just throw someone against the fence and hold'm there. Also there's something about the pride ring that draws me in, i mean cause its all white and everything, thats actually one thing i prefer about pride, though its a minor detail.
2swell k-wells 03-23-2007, 05:38 PM HAHA told ya'll long ago that this was gon happen and it did. Hope he fires the bums and keeps the good fighters in ufc, get rid of the whole pride name. UFC rules the mma world now.
enadeus 03-23-2007, 07:08 PM If they remove the Pride FC ring concept it is going to suck big time...I won't be looking forward to seeing a live event...you can't see anything with a cage!

The white ring (rectangle) displayes fighters well. Like you said the ring forces fighters to fight. Also the audience reactions are more visable. The octagon is dark, seems too big and seperates the fighters from the audience.
The UFC should adopt the boxing ring, but knowing Dana White, he would feel threatened by imitating Pride. To the UFC the cage seems like more of a death match than an actual skill match. That is one of the reasons I like Pride, they have more skills that brutality or short fights. Even those cartoon matches added a little character to Pride. UFC is boring and today I am beginning to realize that Goldberg and Rogan are idiots; they ruin fights.
