phallus 03-10-2007, 01:44 AM brewster is one of my favorite fighters, i used to have his fight against lewis monaco but i lost it. savon was a good fighter, the cuban amateurs are damn good. boxing is fidel castro's favorite sport
Yaman 03-10-2007, 09:56 AM Finally get to see a Savon fight. He's impressive.
What happened though at the end? I know it's the amateurs but it was weird, Brewster looked okay after that punch and they just stopped it?

Kid Achilles 03-10-2007, 03:19 PM Whenever I see past amateur fights of contemporary heavyweights, I'm always impressed by how quick they are, how many punches they throw per round, and the energy they bring to the fight. Then they become successful pros and get fat, slow, and apathetic.
An interesting little microcosm for capitalism perhaps. Does wealth corrupt?

Wealth corrupts most sports stars and people in general, it's the rule rather than the exception. I think the only people who it doesn't corrupt are the people who actually define themselves from the profession they are in; people who don't rest on their laurels; people who actually enjoy what they do rather than simply doing it for the money.
Bucktown Beast 03-10-2007, 05:34 PM Felix and Teofilo Stevenson are the two greatest amateur heavyweights ever. But they were also kind of like pros facing amateurs. They were older and twice as experienced than almost everyone they faced. Their whole life was dedicated to boxing.
The greatest American amateur may very well have been Mark Breland.
Super_Lightweight 03-19-2007, 03:00 PM Savon's style involves a lot of running. I dislike that very much. He hardly put any power on his shots.
