View Full Version : Ortiz Turns Down Contract!!! VulgarTheClown 01-21-2003, 11:35 PM Ortiz turned dow nthe lidell contract!!! check out www.maxfighting.com Mr. Beelzebub 01-22-2003, 12:37 AM from that article: "I waited a long time for this," an obviously disappointed Liddell told MaxFighting. "I've been patient. He got up in the ring after I fought Vitor (Belfort) and started talking about how he was going to beat me. All of a sudden it's time to put up and he doesn't want to do it." "I know all along he's never wanted to fight me," said "The Iceman".. Damn... DOGGx0 01-22-2003, 01:21 AM i do not talk to tito much. i rarely take the classes with him, i am 99% training uinder fabiano. however blake talks to him and takes his classes with paul herrera. i will tell blake to hit him up, otherwise i will next time i see him. his classes are after mine on tuesdays & thursdays, so i rarely see him. i dunno about all this ****. i think we need to hear whats up from tito's mouth and get some insight and his side of the story..... seldomTap 01-22-2003, 01:41 AM Dogg is spot on...There will be three sides to this story, Chucks, Tito's and the matchmakers. Hopefully this can get done professionally and doesn't detract from what should be a classic match up realkaps 01-22-2003, 03:14 AM Its bull****, ****ing bull****, why doesnt the UFC do like they do in professional boxing, if you have a mandatory match with someone and you dont want to fight them, they strip you title. I say strip his ****ing title and hold a tournament, even let ortiz be in the tournament. Liddell diserves his shot........ realkaps 01-22-2003, 08:47 AM I just read at MMAweekly, that Ortiz wants more money and that this fight will probably still happen just not in april....... realkaps 01-22-2003, 08:58 AM Here is a quote from that story...... MMAWeekly then talked with a member of the former Team Punishment and he said "There's more to the situation than people know. Does Tito want to fight Chuck? Yes. Will he do it for what the UFC offered him in the last contract....no. Not to mention he has some injuries." Big_Papa 01-22-2003, 11:38 AM I know Chuck will beat Tito but I would still like to hear Tito's side of the story. wondermut 01-22-2003, 11:40 AM Originally posted by kaps Its bull****, ****ing bull****, why doesnt the UFC do like they do in professional boxing, if you have a mandatory match with someone and you dont want to fight them, they strip you title. Agreed! the_shrike 01-22-2003, 12:07 PM *waiting for Tito and Zuffa's side before commenting" Waylander 01-22-2003, 12:44 PM How much money do you think he was offered? I heard Tito is getting six figures for fights? Kempo Chris 01-22-2003, 02:44 PM hes the #1 contendor He dserves his shot Hes been beating everyone the ufc has benn putting him against and hes fought soome good fighters I donno wat to say about tito or the ufc till we hear more info Waylander 01-22-2003, 03:30 PM I am a big tito fan, but I think he seems to be afraid of Chuck and is using money for an excuse. Anyone else? seldomTap 01-23-2003, 02:14 AM Lets look at it another way... Tito is the current champ, he is goinmg to fight the number 1 contender in what is possibly the biggest earning match in UFC history. I can't blame him for asking for more money to be honest. This is his living, and each time he fights, and anyone fights, they are putting a lot more than pride on the line. He has already had 1 knee operation, another one could be the end of his fight days, where to then?? I think it is good the fighters question what the promoters want to pay them, as long as it is within reason. For instance, if it was John Hess holding out for more bucks, I say BOO!. But Tito is a proven drawcard who is fighting in what will be the toughest (equal with Frank ) fight he has had...both he and Chuck should be paid appropriately realkaps 01-23-2003, 02:21 AM I am sure the contracts where already for over $100,000, I just think that he doesnt want to lose his title..... Pimp Daddy Pierson 01-23-2003, 02:29 AM While i believe that Tito should give Chuck his chance at the steel. I can understand why Tito could be using this opportunity to make some real money for both him and Chuck. You enver know right? Time will tell. Bzob 01-23-2003, 09:58 AM Tito should have to fight hom or leave the belt open for chuck to fight someone else for it Napol 01-23-2003, 11:25 PM i defiently think chuck deserves his shot. but remember.. these guys are friends. i can totally see asking for more money considering the hype for the fight. it will be bigger then tito and ken. and remember.. nobody knows what was really said. chuck could have said something like this, "I have know for a long time tito doesnt want to fight me, we're friends!" and it got cut off at just the perfect point to draw question or twist it true meaning. thats media realkaps 01-24-2003, 12:01 AM Chuck already signed the contract, he is not letting his friendship get in the way, so why should Tito? The Golden Bear 01-24-2003, 02:37 AM well. As far as i know the fight is delayed and thats all. Waylander 01-26-2003, 03:00 PM Who needs friends when you have tons of money? realkaps 01-26-2003, 03:58 PM Money buys all the friends you need..... The Golden Bear 01-27-2003, 03:30 AM hey where is Money!?? |
