View Full Version : Ray Leonard vs Roy Jones at Middleweight
-Hyperion- 02-25-2007, 12:35 AM who wins???
i think Roy takes it in less than 8 rounds, i just think at middle, Roy was a ****ing beast, too big for Ray and almost as fast or as fast OR MAYBE EVEN faster.
 :boxing:
Gerry M 02-25-2007, 01:38 AM Jones would take him out, but I'd love to see this fight.
hemichromis 02-25-2007, 04:09 AM both were equally quick
both were equally powerful
leonard had a much better chin
leonard was a better boxer
ry jones was awkward but i don't think it was enough. i see jones winning the first 3 rounds then it woul become more even and leonard would KO him late

Leonard fought once at 160; against Hagler. And he was hardly impressive in any of his post-Hagler fights: LaLonde, Hearns II, Duran III, Norris, & Camacho.
So, going by that, Roy wins relatively easily. ...by decision. I'm not going to say he'd stop Leonard; but he'd beat him.

yeh yor right actually. leonard was at his best at welter
KanMan 02-25-2007, 12:20 PM roy was extreamly good as a middle wieght, he would rip leonard
The Monk 02-25-2007, 12:57 PM Sugar Ray would give it a good go and take a few rounds but Jones would be too elusive and take a comfortable ud.
titoi 02-25-2007, 02:14 PM Not a real fair fight as the size differential is pretty big. But the quality differential is equally big.
SRL is not my favorite fighter as he relied overmuch on his cleverness (and some remarkable judgments) for my taste, but he fought the best over a long career. He had a freaky chin and was about as smart a boxer as there ever was. He had good power, scary straight punches and absolutely no dog in him. RJJ instead never seemed eager to fight tough guys and his chin proved very suspect in the end.
RJJ would have been frustrated and then ktfo by SRL in my book.
wmute 02-25-2007, 03:52 PM Jones easily.
Leonard @ 160 is not a force. he beat hagler under very specific circumstances.
Jones @ 160-168 was a beast knocking out people almost at will. Leonard could surely box with him for a while, but he would not be able to hurt Jones, as he was a natural welter and Jones was a natural 168.
wmute 02-25-2007, 03:54 PM both were equally powerful
that is a ridiculous statement
Jim_Davis 02-25-2007, 08:43 PM Roy by decision.

SRL "beat" an old hagler... a young roy at 160 is too much for ray leonard, and ray would get beaten to the punch everytime. i remember seeing prime roy KTFO middleweights with a single punch, anyone remember art serwano?
ray leonard has a great chin, roy might not be able to knock him out but wins a UD
Brassangel 02-25-2007, 10:05 PM Leonard beat an old Hagler, and arguably, he won rounds 1-4 and only flurried at the end of each round that the judges gave him thereafter. In all fairness, Leonard was beyond his prime and his weightclass at that point and proved that he always had the heart of a warrior.
I think that Leonard makes a fight of it, but Jones was freakishly good in his prime. I believe that Roy beats Ray to the punch, and even out-showboats him round after round.
Dempsey 1919 02-26-2007, 03:07 PM Jones is too big and powerful and beats Leonrd by an easy decision.
hemichromis 02-26-2007, 03:52 PM that is a ridiculous statement
actually as a middle weight leonard focused alot on his power and lost soe speed to become a hard hitter
wmute 02-26-2007, 05:20 PM actually as a middle weight leonard focused alot on his power and lost soe speed to become a hard hitter
if leonard focused on his power to get those results, the previous was even more of a ridiculous statement.
Hydro 02-26-2007, 07:03 PM Roy.
I would pick SRL in a p4p matchup though.

you should watch some of his later fights again
wmute 02-27-2007, 02:36 PM you should watch some of his later fights again
you probably need to watch more of both leonard and jones, if you think they have similar power. the notion is ridiculous. leonard only knocked out a dehydrated (Lalonde fighting at the ridiculous catchweight imposed during negotiations) fighter, combining ALL his fights at 160 and above.
Roy Jones, what can i say, he was knocking out people like matches at 160-168.
or can you imagine leonard knocking out virgil hill with a body shot?
adietheforestfa 02-27-2007, 08:33 PM Ray would murder him. Way too fast.
ALIENVIRUS 02-27-2007, 08:48 PM Roy Jones Jr. wins by UD ... also wins the showboating competition lol.
