View Full Version : Sledge Hammer Workout
Animal Squabbs 02-16-2007, 04:16 AM I went and got a 16 pound sledge hammer today and like a sign from god, I have found TWO tires just laying around on the sidewalks. Im so excited thinking about it that it is fifteen minutes past midnight and I am thinking of going out to a park right now and doin it.
FOr those that dont what Im talking about, basically you just hit a tire with a sledge hammer over and over and it builds your arms and back.
hemichromis 02-16-2007, 05:18 AM that was earnie shavers' favourite exercise for increasing power so it's probably effective

Manfredo Jr 02-16-2007, 08:56 AM hell yeah it works, i have to smash pallets at work up with a sledgehammer, builds your abs up a bit aswel i think

Animal Squabbs 02-17-2007, 12:42 AM I did it today for about a half hour. My arms felt pretty solid after especially my biceps. My back doesnt seem to have gotten a workout at all though.

Animal Squabbs 02-17-2007, 02:26 AM does it matter how big the tire is?? I just have a regular car tire that I found.
BigCol 02-17-2007, 02:28 AM i would do it but it is a little dangerous. A simple slip of that thing and you could be seriously injured.

thats why yo should start with light sledge's. you can buy them from 4 to 20lbs so it shouldn't be a prob.
light weights should start with the 4 or 6's and heavys should start on the 8's or 12's IMO

just go buy a sledge hammer, Mine was about $40, and Im sure
you can find a tire laying around somewhere, then take hem to a park and there you go.
I went up to Big O Tire last summer and just asked for a tire.
They have to pay to dispose of the tire anyway so i was helping them out.
I walked in there and said "Whats up man, can I have one of the tires you're going to throw away"?
Dude was like " uh.... what are you gonna do with it"?
"Im going to hit it with a sledge hammer."
"Ok thats cool".
****, i went out to the back and picked out a 275/55/20 and it still had some great tread on it.

I use a 12-lb. sledge at work for demo and driving posts, and after a few minutes with that sucker you are praying for death. You do not need a 20-lb. sledgehammer.
platinummatt! 02-18-2007, 07:20 AM Id like to try this, but as aprevious poster said, I have nowhere to do it. I may get a sledgehammer to do finger walks with though. Anyone suggest a weight for that?

Heres a list of affordable sledgehammers. Pity I have no other use for them other than finger walks.
platinummatt! 02-18-2007, 08:34 AM I can use a grub axe for finger walks now.
Mick Hucknall 02-18-2007, 08:37 AM what exactly are finger walks?
Exige Jr 02-18-2007, 08:38 AM what exactly are finger walks?
You get your 2 longest fingers and immitate walking with them along a table.
:D
platinummatt! 02-18-2007, 08:45 AM Lol. Say you have a sledge hammeer. You put all the tips of your fingers (not thumbs) on the handle. 4 on one side, 4 on the other. and press together to hold it. Then you move your 2 fingers on the bottom down, ( while holding the sledge hammer with the other fingers) and re grip. Then bring the other fingers down to meet it. And keep going like that. Its to improve finger strength,
Mick Hucknall 02-18-2007, 08:47 AM and you want to strenghten your fingers so your fingers wont get sore tickling your boyfriend?
platinummatt! 02-18-2007, 08:49 AM lol. Well you complained last time I stopped.
Mick Hucknall 02-18-2007, 08:54 AM burned ggh
platinummatt! 02-18-2007, 08:58 AM Id give the one in you sig one.
