View Full Version : Roadwork
Nazgul666 02-09-2007, 08:06 PM As I've posted, I'm a beginner who has been training and just started sparring. My goal is to get intot he best fighting shape. Now I have been going to the gym to train with my trainer religiously but he hasn't gotten me into the running thing yet. Maybe because its been 10 degrees here with 30 mile an hour winds!
Anyway, I hear all this talk about roadwork. What should I be doing? JUst running a couple of miles in the morning to start? Sprinting? What are you guys doing for roadwork. I would love it if someone could tell me where to start and what I should work up to I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike
GR@Y SKIEZ 02-09-2007, 08:09 PM As A Beginner 2-3 Miles Mon-fri Morning Should Be Good.....after That You Could Start Adding Sprints....and Then Some Hills If You Want.

ideally u should be doing interval running meaning that u go from jogging to a hard short sprint then back down to jogging to catch ur breath and repeat. who gave u bad karma btw? starting at 2 miles is good, whatever amount u can do is great
Nazgul666 02-09-2007, 08:21 PM Thanks for your answer. Bad Karma? What is that? I see you guys have points and ratings and stuff. I haven't really looked into this stuff yet. My posts have been fairly humble and respectful so I can't imagine I offended anyone.

well that red bar is negative karma, if u click user CP u'll see who sent it to u. There are some pretty disrespectful ppl on this forum. Only downside to the red bar is that people might prejudge u as an idiot, but no biggie

LOL. Thats classic. I looked it up. Its this guy Audley. He sent me bad karma on my first message which was titled "Beginner." It was basically me explaining that I was a beginner, how I got into it and how I look forward to being part of the forum and learning from you guys. Anyway, off to a bad start I guess.
Mike
Versastyle 02-09-2007, 09:42 PM when i do run I type myself in the 3 mile if im not in the 25min limit i gave myself I speed up and this is going uphill. give yourself goals as in timed exercises and try to beat your times
Kid Achilles 02-09-2007, 11:35 PM Audley is a ****ing clown, ignore him.

-Antonio- 02-10-2007, 12:39 AM roadwork in the morning with the 10-20 degree wind chill sucks ass, and Ive tried everything but I keep getting shin splints about a mile into my run. So I dont do road work anymore, instead I just do 15 minutes on the treadmill (no shin splints on there for some reason) and 15 minutes on the bike. Its helped me so far. I should be running more though.
Nazgul666 02-10-2007, 07:55 AM Thanks everyone, you guys are awesome. Yeah the running thing in this weather is tough. Plus I feel I'm getting MUCH tougher workouts from my trainer right now anyway. And the knee and shin thing does creep up on me as well. I think mixing in some running with biking might be the right call. Although if you're running uphill and/or sprinting, I'm guessing it would be hard on your muscles but take less of a toll on your bone structure becasue it would be less mileage.
Right now we work in three minute rounds whether it be mits, or heavy bag, etc., sparring and then during the minute "rest" I'm either on the floor with abs, or jumping rope. If I do running on the off days that should really help!
Kid Achilles 02-10-2007, 09:19 AM Actually Vers I did as well. I think it was a combination effort from all of us, don't get ****y now! ;)

Its ok I turned you back to green. You didnt say nothing wrong and somebody was just trying to flex their e-muscles...
i read this book made by the dude who trained Delahoya for the trinidad fight the cardio plan was like 1st week 30s sprint 1min rest ( active rest) 2nd week 1min sprint 1min active rest... and on and on till they reach the 3Min (the time of a round) he did about 10 sprint every time that was for like "explosivness" he also did like 40mins joggin the day he wasnt doing the sprinting thing and the ACTIVE rest is very important..
ps: i didnt read the whole book i just read a bunch of pages in the store,
i tryed this system for 2mins ( amateur round) works pretty well but i havent been doing the 40mins joggin etc i'm very explosive for hitting the bag full speed/force but when i sparr i tend to get tierd near the end of the 3rd 3min round...
GR@Y SKIEZ 02-10-2007, 10:11 AM now im going to try to turn skiez green also
