Tanner Justin Rhoden is my full name.

I was born in Tarzana, CA


My father used to play pro baseball. His name is Rick Rhoden. You may recognize the name from celebrity golf tournaments he plays in now.

The rumor about me having drug addiction problems is true. I had a lot going for me out of high school. I was fortunate enough to get a full ride to play baseball in college. I ****ed it all up. During my freshman year I got hooked on drugs. Going into my freshman year I had never really done anything except smoke weed, drink and acid once. At first, me and some other guys from the team would have small "E" parties and have the girls from the softball and volleyball teams join us. We only did this every couple of weeks, at first. Then it turned into every weekend. Then I hurt my foot really bad while sliding in a pre-season game. This sidelined me for the rest of the pre-season games. I got very depressed when this happened cause I was kicking ass and had first base as my locked, starting position. While recovering, I met this girl who's boyfriend was a drug dealer. I ended up becoming good friends with both of them. This was an easy way to get any drug I wanted, whenever I wanted it. What went from doing ectsasy every couple of weekends to every weekend, turned into me doing it whenever I felt like it. With the ecstasy use came acid, shrooms, micro dots, cocaine and speed. Cocaine and speed I only did a few times. They weren't really my thing. Weed and Ecstasy were my things.

To make a long story short, I ended up dropping out of school and flushing my baseball scholorship down the drain because I couldn't stop using.

That summer I went back to CA to visit my mom. The addiciton continued there, only worse. I finally went to my mom one day and told her that I needed help. I checked into an out-patient rehab center. I went to the center 4 times a week...on top of that, I went to eight AA and NA meetings a week aside from my rehab center.

I spent 7 months total in rehab before I checked myself out. After all the **** I had gone though, I didn't feel like going back to baseball anymore. This is something I regret....but it's funny how things work out. If all this **** wouldn't of happened to me, I would have never found MMA and wouldn't be here making this thread today.

MMA changed my life. It's the most amazing sport I have ever been a part of. And yes, I do owe sherdog.com a lot. They got my foot in the door to these events. Sherdog was the first MMA site I was ever a part of. I made a lot of friends while I was there........it's to bad things are the way they are now.

As for my drug use now: I've been clean from all major drugs for over three years now. I've only smoked weed twice in the last two years.............with people on this site I might add. I'll admit right now, I do drink a little bit to much. I plan on working on this problem very soon. The only other "drug" I do is meds. I occasionally take prescription meds. This is not something I'm addicted to though. I don't sit around thinking about when I'm gonna get my next fix from meds.....it's just something I like to do from time to time........is that so bad?

Right now, I have a kick ass girlfriend that keeps a smile on my face everyday. I have a decent job that pays well and am living in a huge apt that is very cheap. I still plan on doing something in the world of MMA as my job down the road. ...it's just a matter of finding the right angle to do it.

In closing, anything you read or have read about me on other forums might be true to a degree............but don't believe everything you read. Things get blown out of proportion.

I just want people to read this so they know what's up. A lot of **** is talked about me everyday on other forums. This is straight from the horses mouth. It's not everything about me, but it explains a lot.

And yes, Allison put some **** on my hands last night that is supposed to make them soft...........I'm gay

No problem Tanner. My brother in law has been fighting a long hard battle with his speed addiction. He's a really good guy, he's just sick. People always tend to forget that drug abuse is an illness, not a choice!

I hear you, Wushu. Certain people try to use this against me on a daily basis. People that I used to call my friends. It's cool though.......I'm able to sort through people that are true friends and people that were only being nice because I was an admin over there.

I am currently addicted to Cigetetts and Alchohol. I would have been addicted to cocaine but i could not afford it. I also drink a lot of coffee in the am so i have it goin on there too. I smoke weed a lot too but no addiction there yet...but i am hopefull

I think its great that you were able to recognize your problem and took charge in bettering yourself. Not many people are able to do this until its too late.

can i please, please, please have some prescription meds?they took my vicodin away from me and gave me methadone instead.it gets rid of the urges and the craving but does not have the same effect.i don't get enough oxycontin to last an entire month and they won't give me more.

on a side note, being somewhat serious.if you are in florida with tanner.i go there twice a year and for the right reasons i could make my way through where you are at.

Tanner, I only know you from the boards, mostly at sherdog. But I admire the will it must have taken to do what you've done. It's tough to take that cold hard look at yourself, see things you don't like, and make major changes. It's also cool that you can be so brutally honest about your past. Only people who have really changed can be so blunt. And finally, it's nice to see a thread like this without major flaming from other posters.
