I think he was a pro with like 4 fights. he was hyping himself up and staring at me before the match and listening to music. I was just enjoying to sparring that was still going on

deh707 02-09-2007, 02:46 AM oh yeah, on video #2, how come you changed headgears?
Damn Vers, you're looking real sharp in there.
You seem so damn composed in there and in total control.
Good job with the Ko's
Versastyle 02-09-2007, 04:30 AM yeah, i watched them again, those were legit knockdowns.
what size and brand gloves do you use? they look red, 16oz, but i cant see the brand name on it.
16oz ringside........
Versastyle 02-09-2007, 04:32 AM oh yeah, on video #2, how come you changed headgears?
I couldnt see ****.ahahaha most of those punches from below they were missing were from sense of where there punching. I cant explain it.but that new headgear I got had a better view on top cause I go so low I need it
Animal Squabbs 02-09-2007, 04:35 AM haha, good work man. You did seem like you were swingin hard from the start on both of them. That second dude was tryin to go all out like an idiot.
Animal Squabbs 02-09-2007, 04:37 AM 24-2 OR 3 i forgot exactly, his names kelvin davis so you can check it out on boxrec, but like i said friday night fights espn the 23rd check it out
hahahaha, who the **** doesnt know who Kelvin Davis is?????? I knew who you were talkin about when you were talking about a shirt crusierweight nd knocrete boxing.com.
Versastyle 02-09-2007, 04:46 AM haha, good work man. You did seem like you were swingin hard from the start on both of them. That second dude was tryin to go all out like an idiot.
first dude it was all speed and thats what caught him. second dude was more defense and speed but second dude second round was all speed-more power and they after the knockdown I toned it down to speed cause I saw he was still hurt when I punched him and wasnt set on his feet.

I think theres a difference between just speed and leapin off your feet into a hook which you kept doin.
Versastyle 02-09-2007, 04:53 AM I think theres a difference between just speed and leapin off your feet into a hook which you kept doin.
gotta get to them somehow.I have yet to load up on a punch yet on the videos ive posted.I tend to turn southpaw quick if I miss from all that energy I generate from powering up on a punch or haymaker u can say. but like I was saying the second guy was pissin me off talkin **** in my ear and all so I said i'll try to knock him down and others wanted me to also. so yeah I was punching hard second round but like I said after that knockdown I would hit him with speed and back off if u didnt see that. so I know when to control it.
mgkirkpatrick 02-09-2007, 05:23 AM yeah after u knocked the second guy down u could have easily put him away but u were just landin then backin off.
chilly9876 02-09-2007, 07:32 AM you look good for someone with such little sparring..a few tips though..
Work on your Jab abit more..
Sometimes after you throw hooks you're not bringing your hands back up,you're leaving them low..
To start off with in a fight when you get in close, throw a quick combo then move out, sometimes you stay inside too long and start getting caught..even though your opponent isnt throwing strong punches he's clocking up points. You're more suited to the pro ranks, because damage counts for more in the pro's,as later in the fight you'll tire and damage your opponent and eventually ko him..in the ams if you catch him with 3 solid shots and he catches you with 6 light taps,he'll probably win the round. Once you're hurting him only then stay inside and keep punishing him.
Don't only count on your bob and weave to defend yourself, try parrying shots also to get inside.
In your vid in the other post you went a little too low once whilst trying to avoid punches, as far as i'm aware you cant duck lower than waist height so be careful.
Sometimes you lean too much to the side and linger there..try not linger otherwise if he has quick footwork you may find he'll take you out.
I hope this makes sense and hope some of this may help you.

yeah it made sense thanx. I tried starting off with my jabs faster 1s but then i neglected it again.and punch and go out ill look into also. byt couldnt i get points from hitting them in the inside also though?

you should be getting paid for beating the **** out of these guys. you didn't jab much but your hooks did the business.
eazy_mas 02-09-2007, 09:52 AM 1st: nice KO at that guy
2nd: i told you you would have trouble with southpaw didnt i. anyway th guy fuvk it up with his right hooks he should have jabed and you should have slip and then left hook to couter his jab calculate his speed and do you stuff. but overral it was good but you gotta jab and find for an opening so you wont wast energy dring the fight. lucky the other guy not that good southpaw and good southpaw boxer would have given you alot of troulbe nad he thew too many lefts at you
Peterp 02-09-2007, 11:22 AM very nice mate, i always enjoying watching your sparring and training vids, please keep posting them :)
You are one scary dude in the ring !
fraidycat 02-09-2007, 11:55 AM I would not want to fight you unless I had horseshoes in my gloves.
You look great, man. Way to stay inside and throw heavy in there; you take a punch really well, too. Your sparring style reminds me of the Tyson sparring videos, not just your style but the way that you stay calm and unphased.
What is your headgear? It doesn't move around even when you get hooked. Mine slides all over the place when I get hooked; it drives me nuts.
pete12345 02-09-2007, 12:10 PM Pretty good stuff...and thanks for posting it on the board...
Not trying to be a critic, but one thing you could do is change your stance a little....you're often very squared up to your man, even when you're not throwing punches...and when you do throw punches, you're basically 100% facing your man and not at an angle...
I know that it's probably not something that could easily be changed at this point, but worth a thought...
And as someone said above, try to work on your jab a bit more, especially when you're trying to come in (that's what the "good" Tyson use to do). Throw some jabs, come in, then unload. If you don't throw jabs coming in, then when you're up against some better competition (especially taller fighters), they'll just pick you apart as you're coming in...
Anyways, keep up the great work!!
potatoes 02-09-2007, 12:46 PM Knocking out sparring partners is not a good habit to get into to. Even if the fool standing in front of you is looking for trouble, if you lay him out cold he may not come back again!
Your Tysonesque style is working out very well for you, but you should not pick up Tyson's bad boxing habits. Did you see Tyson's two battles as an amateur with Henry Tillman? This was Tyson at his worst, headhunting like a damn fool. It became a recurring theme througout his career. The peek-a-boo style, lots of head movement and a strong body attack is the key to success for a short slugger. Not sure how far it will take you in the amateurs, but I can see you winning a title as a professional before the end of this decade!
Sin City 02-09-2007, 01:27 PM Since you swarm and apply constant pressure dudes would need a good as ****ing jab to keep you back. Second guy looked like he was just swingin.. Good **** Verse.. I like how both of them were confused as **** when they got back up.
Nelson da Cruz 02-09-2007, 01:44 PM Two good vids - you're getting better each time we see you!
Just one question Vers.....when you bob and weave on the defense do you know where his punches are gonna go or are you doing the movements like guess work and hoping he misses? He couldn't catch you when you were bobbing and weaving so I just wondered if your moves were a reaction to his ounches or a set pattern to get in closer?
FeelTheA-Force 02-09-2007, 01:52 PM I would not want to fight you unless I had horseshoes in my gloves.

whats your weight versatile??
PunchDrunk 02-09-2007, 03:02 PM Now those opponents were more like it, they actually look like boxers. I doubt the first guy has 60 fights (I train several guys who have 60-70 fights, and trust me, they do NOT box like that guy ;) ), and the second guy is pro, though... but they can box a bit, especially the second guy.
Overall an improvement, especially with the step up in opponent level. Keep in mind, that you won't be allowed to lean on a guy to keep him in a corner like that, in an amateur fight.
Man, with a little experience and schooling, you'll be unstoppable. :)
American_Ninja 02-09-2007, 05:30 PM whats your weight versatile??
I believe he's 154 - 160

hate to brag. but i had no problem with the southpaw and I honestly didnt know he was southpaw til i saw the video at home. when hes going crazy hitting me with all he has and throwing a million shots an hour and missing 90% of them while im not even hitting him? then I dont think it was bad. u need to re watch the video cause if u think I had problems with him your sadly mistaken and cant see.
and how do u know other southpaws will give me trouble if im not in that situation wait til im in that situation then criticize. Ive faced national amateur finalist that was a southpaw and never had a problem and this was a year ago. ppl react to different situations.

its just reaction as in reflexes, its like my body moves on its own.even when im low and cant see with my headgear its like i can sense the punches and know where there at. I cant explain it.

my squareness gives me better leverage on my punches and the ablilty to switch stances. I usally only do it in the inside though and yeah I know i need to work on my jab. if u seen some of my old youtube videos ive came along way cause I never really used to use it. but with the second guy, whats the point of jabbing when there coming after u and trying to fight in the inside.ahaha no point really

it wont fair in the amateurs with the bodyshots ive been told so i dont do it as much in sparring now.
and the second guy deserved to get knocked down and the first guy I didnt even mean to it was all speed practically,I didnt even sit on my punches

yeah the leaning is a habit:o im going to start spacing myself cause ppl say I have power when I do hook flurries so that I will try next time. and throw bodyshot uppercut combos. I need alot more practice but as I spar I learn more from you guys on here.

Yes, bodyshots don't count for much in the amateurs, nevertheless, bodyshots are your key to winning the fight. What is more important is that a strong body attack will set up the knockout. A good stiff livershot will paralyse your victim for the split second you need to finish him off. To establish your reputation as a puncher you need to get a string of knockouts. That is well within your capability. Don't be trying to out box the boxers, it ain't gonna happen.

yeah trying to outbox some1 with my short reach is suicide.ahaaha.im trying to get near perfect on the left hook to the body

yeah kick some ass vers.
Trick 02-10-2007, 12:34 PM vers,
Again, I'm impressed by your sparring class. You go out there to train, not just to knock someone's ass around the ring. That's good man. I'd still say just practice gettin' outta the way of some of those jabs, your style isn't really the ideal for the amateurs. That being said, even the way you are now, I wouldn't be suprised to see you go far in the GGs. Try to post some vids of those, I'd be really interessed in seeing them. Being Canadian, I don't really know, do the GGs happen all at once across the states, or are they different in each region?
Keep workin' man,

boxer2k5 02-11-2007, 10:39 PM really dope footage right there
but why do you lean on them so much when
you got them on the ropes. you use them as a crutch
i remember this kid was doing that to me so i let him do it a couple times while i picked him off and rolled but i let him get comfortable
the 3rd time he went for it i knew he was going to shift all his weight
onto me and lena on me. i jabed pivoted and crossed his ass he fell out
the ring lol

kayjay 03-18-2007, 07:24 PM Good job Versa. A definite improvement and I wasn't surprised to see you knock those punks down. The first guy looked ok but fell asleep on you. The second guy just looked like an angry ****. I don't see how he can fight professionally; he had no technique.
hectari 03-18-2007, 10:15 PM Damn when you turning pro? what weight class you gonna fight? your pretty short but **** man you got the style of tyson and with better stamina and hopefully a clearer mind and more heart, damn dog you got some good whiskers too that one dude tryed to knock you out and then you dropped him clean with 1 punch haah thats what he gets.
I am guessing you will be fighting and cutting down to at 140? or 135? you look about 170 at 5 feet 5? am i correct?
still laughing at that 2nd guy when you knocked him down he still didnt gather his marbles he didnt know where he was haha.

Your first opponent................
1. keeps both hands below his shoulders at all times.
2. has no defensive skills.
3. has horrible head movement.
4. has no sense of the ring.
5. has a horrible stance.
6. doesn't know how to fight off ropes.
7. either doesn't know how to clinch or when too.
8. has sub-par foot movement.
9. FORGOT he had a right hand.
10. doesn't know his distance for ****.
11. throws the jab low.
12. brings the jab back low.
13. doesn't know what pivot means at all.
14. shouldn't be sparring in the first place seeing how winded he was after throwing less than 60 punches in not even 1 rounds time(and thats being generous I even counted the smothered ones)
The second guy is too out of shape for me to even start on him.
You'll never get good going against this level of opposition. If You want to have a chance in any national tournaments find better people to train with.. and thats jus being real because I got welter weights in my gym that would eliminate any aspirations or hopes those guys wake up in the morning with that allows them to even go to the gym. Neither would have lasted 30 seconds against me.....Sounds ****y but im jus bein real... Your gonna get hurt when you enter a tournament if you waste time with those guys holding up your progress. 1

for the bolded part thats the difference between me and u,I dont go out and act like a badass and try to go for the kill in sparring. I took the first guy out in like a minute in a half and I didnt even mean too. I was taking it rather slow.second guy look out in 2 rounds that were 2min each. first round I was workin on defense cause I wanted to work as u can clearly see.
and why ppl always think ill get hurt and other things when I pick the competition up in sparring or comp or what not,Its sparring only.u know how many flaws I can find on great fighters also?plently.theres no such thing as a perfect fighter.
and lastly I dont pick who I spar I take what I can and get in there and work,I never saw those guys in my life til that day.
duffgun 03-19-2007, 09:01 AM cool videos, you look like you could do well as a pro, much better than i am, i have no speed, ok power, rubbish stamina, the only thing i am realy good at is the jab and straight and over hand right.

There just haters...you were by far the most impressive ive seen on this board...and that 2nd guy was trying to be tough..DA1CATAS probally didnt observe how your corner man told the other side to chill out and its just sparring.
you clearly got some good power you need to pursue this as a career while you are young and if you dont get far at least you know you tried.
make that paper.
kayjay 03-19-2007, 12:52 PM Hey what DA1Cats said was all pretty accurate. Don't take it as hating Vers. I want you to succeed and I've always liked you, but I think too that all the guys I've seen you spar with are not good enough for you. It's not your fault and you'll be fine. I'm not saying you're going to get hurt or any dumb **** like that, but you should look for some better competition than you've been getting. DA1 would not have said any of that if he didn't think you had potential.

First off I don't sparr acting like im trying to kill my guys... but the level they are at leaves no room for holding back.. its jus that simple.... 2 of the guys I spar with are 1 and 3 time state champs in florida...152 (so I get use to the faster speed and punch output) & 178 (because he's 6'4 with long arms and a scary jab)....There is no half assing when im in there with those guys because they wanna work hard... Each sparring match is like a fight.. we have specialized defensive rounds after sparring.... That makes sense because no one is gonna go light on any of us in a tournament.. I understand you don't pick your sparring partners THATS WHY I STATED TO ask for BETTER OPPOSITION.....and if your trainer sees these guys are no match he should make you move with better guys..
And to anyone who thought I was hating on VERS go read what I said again... you can clearly see that I said these chumps were holding up his progress.

how much you walk around at? Im pretty sure you might have to fight at 140-147 range since your not that tall...but would the cut be too much? how much you weigh in the video.
and your stats bro?
shawn_ 03-19-2007, 02:16 PM Dont say you want to test your chin out. A fighters goal in life should be to never know if they can take a punch. You got the good bob and weave defense going on. Keep honing it, and dont think about "testing" your chin.
I have always said, fight like you have a glass jaw, even if you dont. That doesnt mean you have to run or pot shot, it just means work your defensive skills. You fight like Tyson. That is good. I feel Tyson is one of the best defensive fighters ever. I know you watch all of his fights. Most of his early career, he never got hit. You should do the same.

Like i said I only face when put in front of me. Ive faced pros and some undefeated also. as tyson says every1 has a game plan til there hit. then alot of the time all that knowledge of the game gets throw out the window.
but I get what your saying. Im just waiting for some1 to test me thats all

damn but your mostly muscle so it would be a super hard cut for you to get down to 140 but if ricky hatton can get down to 140 im pretty sure you can.
I wouldnt start off at 154 though just start off as low as you can go and then as you age move up in weight.

ricky hatton doesnt look close to what I look like,he turns to fat,I have muscle. muscle is like twice is hard to cut then fat. plus I think I have big bones also.

naw you kinda got that tyson type build...big bones you would not move as quick as you do...but you got tons of muscle packed on a small frame its why your so fast and strong.
just like tyson.
thats gonna be tough though cause if you start fighting at 154 your gonna be in against some big ass tall guys...maybe you could be the mini tyson...tyson fought some tall as dudes.

What's your height?
You have good composure but you need higher workrate...
Oh and use your feet a little more... Put some small weights on your feet or something... You have good roots on your feet but you're kinda flatfooted, if someone tall can move around you on circles and pick you of with jab/cross you're in trouble... Yeah that's pretty much it, you just need to get rid of a few little mistakes here and there but with practice you should end up pretty well... You planning on going pro or golden gloves/olympics or anything or do you just box for fun/health reasons?
hectari 03-20-2007, 01:42 AM You should start getting sparmates who are fast and slick start with those first cause you would probally knock dudes out already like these guys going toe 2 toe with you...just focus now on trying to fight runners once you can cut off the ring crisp early then you wont have trouble with slicksters as much. you already can go toe 2 toe so you dont really need to focus on that as much.
Seriously this guy need to start fighting for real...he needs a good trainer he has the cus d amato style, they can market him as the mini tyson and he would sell tons of tickets if he is any GOOD that is.
From what I seen Versa does need a higher workrate but with better training and focus and putting alot of focus on that big million dollar payday to keep focused and hungry im pretty sure he could knock fools heads off.
they just gotta build you up first with a couple of cans to get you adjusted but man you gotta make sure you got a good business mind so people dont exploit you.
willywhyte 03-20-2007, 02:03 AM damn. you look really good dawg. STRONG, good head movement, maybe throw some faints in there... work guys to the body and wait for those openings up top and you will work your way to a world title. awesome vids man, prolly one of the best sparring video's ive seen, keep em comin :boxing:
