None of the other top four have shown much interest.

Liverpool have plenty of midfielders, especially with the signing of Mascherano (hopefully).

Bull why do they want Mascherano, who could not crack the lineup at Wesy Ham? How will this guy play with Alonso, Gerrard?

He wont have a chance in hell of replacing those two guys. Back to topic Owen is overrated imo

certainly not the MOST talented player.. But his heart is massive.. And he did score on the shootout.. something a few of the more TALENTED players seem to constantly fail at..

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you at all Kayjay.

Mascherano didn't play because of circumstances at the club, not that he wasn't good enough. Mascherano was bought by a man who was planning to take over West Ham, but the manager didn't really want Mascherano because he had his midfield set.

The man who bought Mascherano (Kia Joorabchian) failed to buy West Ham, meaning the manager didn't have to play him at all, which he would of done if Joorabchian took over. This meant Mascherano was in limbo because the manager didn't want to unsettle his squad by playing this player. The West Ham players were moaning to Pardew that this guy could just sign and straight away have a guarantee of playing every game, so maybe Pardew was making a point by not playing Mascherano. Possibly saying that no-one walks into his starting X1? It's all personalities really that stopped Mascherano playing.

And who says that our central midfield three won't get injured during the course of the season or that their form will drop? It's highly possible that they will, so Mascherano will be great cover and I think he could push his way to the starting X1.

Watch some of his games for River, Corinthians and Argentina and you will seee one of the best young midfielders in the world at play.

I agree with RB, Mascherano was rated as one of the best young players in the world prior to the West Ham deal, he didn't become a poor player over night!

We all know that it takes many established players several seasons to settle in the Premiership never mind a youngster who doesn't speak the language.

Benitez likes Spanish and English speaking players and feels that Mascherano would fit into the footballing style of Liverpool better with the likes of Alonso and Gerrard to bring him on!

As for Hargreaves, the deal to sign him has apparently been shook on, the problem lies with the medical, the United Doctor didn't feel he was fit after the broken leg so they will reassess him in the summer.

He is a good player, perhaps slightly overrated after his workmanlike World Cup display but he has been a regular at Bayern for many seasons so he must have something?
