View Full Version : Kerr documentary was REAL REAL good academiachuteboxe 01-12-2003, 11:36 PM Who saw it? Damn I thought that was really good. DOGGx0 01-12-2003, 11:40 PM i have a new found respect and outlook on fighters and the general sport. it takes everything you have, and then some. Much respect to EVERYONE who goes out there and gives it their all. To be the champion means it HAS to become your life. This documentry was probablly one of the best "inside" perspectives I have ever seen. wondermut 01-12-2003, 11:41 PM It was awesome! The Golden Bear 01-13-2003, 12:11 AM Apart from bneing a great show, I think that it also did a service to the sport and for the normal person who knows only the stereotypes about the sport. Overall it brought many emotions to the table. Life and MMA were very well paralelled in the show. My only regret is that Mark eventuly married Dawn. But thats his life and i dont know the whole story about him and her. Hope he stays clean. Kerr is a good man, and a good person to the sport. Hats off to Mark and all the people who made this thing happen. Mr. Beelzebub 01-13-2003, 12:44 AM Excellent documentary. Specials like this make me wanna throw my "box" out the window and pay for HBO. Nuno 01-13-2003, 12:41 PM Originally posted by Mr. Beelzebub Excellent documentary. HAHAHAHA!!!!:crazy2: Waylander 01-13-2003, 03:17 PM I have not seen it but from what everyone has said it seems to be classic. seldomTap 01-13-2003, 03:48 PM Dammit...I wanna see it to Big_Papa 01-13-2003, 03:53 PM I want to see it also. momita 01-13-2003, 03:58 PM ever heard of "pay it forward"? What if we had a system kinda like that? When someone can't get a program like that, someone records it, sends it to that person, then he sends it to the next person....... so on & so on, anyone game? The Ensanity 01-13-2003, 06:45 PM My friend is going to tape it for me Kempo Chris 01-14-2003, 02:02 AM The best show ive seen on tv for years Watching it made me realize if i wanna make it in this sport I have to give it my all and give up certain parts of my life to achieve the goal. It inspired me to train a hell of a lot harder DOGGx0 01-14-2003, 01:15 PM Originally posted by momita ever heard of "pay it forward"? What if we had a system kinda like that? For some reason it gets me pumped up. :) zioxoiz 01-14-2003, 10:04 PM Yeah it was good, but man the way they made that, they made it seem like she was a royal *****, i dont kn0w how he put up with her. But hey to each his own. The Ensanity 01-15-2003, 01:37 PM I cant wait to see it...hope its as good as everyone said it is... http://images.thesun.co.uk/picture/0,,2003020506,00.jpg mmafanman 01-15-2003, 03:25 PM Originally posted by Blake Apart from bneing a great show, I think that it also did a service to the sport and for the normal person who knows only the stereotypes about the sport. Hats off to Mark and all the people who made this thing happen. Just to let you know, Bas Rutten posted on another message board that Kerr and Dawn divorced last year. So, as everyone probably expected, the marriage didn't last very long. My only regret for the entire documentary was that they didn't add this little bit of information in during post-production. In the end notes, they wrote that they married in 2000 and were both living in Phoenix. Silver Wolf 01-15-2003, 05:40 PM I see people on this and the Sherdog forums saying how they are such big fans of Kerr now. Why? Because he had drug/alcohol/girl problems? Those are all SELF-INFLICTED. No one told him to become addicted to pain killers, no one told forced him to take the drink, no one forced him to stay with that crazy girl. No sympathy from me. Olga 01-15-2003, 07:01 PM The documentary was simply amazing! Loved it. I was lucky to tape it. It totally pumped me up. It really inspired me to want to train harder in class (BHJJC) (chuckles, that's where I train):-) It was nice to see that a whole hour and a half was dedicated to Mark Kerr and MMA on HBO. My hat is off to them for airing that! Thank you! Olga Bzob 01-20-2003, 12:32 PM I agree, It was great! It was nice to see behind the sceens. I hated his girl friend. No sympathy from me. you got it twisted. nobody is saying they are big fans of him after seeing the drugs and all..... but people have been fans of him before that and to see a fighter allow his personal life and emotions exposed it takes a great deal of respect to understand that it is not a walk in the park and how much you have to move forward and fight, otherwise it is just harder on yourself to let the other **** interfere. it was deep and showed the emotion in mma and the fighters. not only in kerr, but you saw it in coleman as well. sure people have called kerr soft, etc for his love torwards fighters and the sport (ie. the congratulations to ricco when he won), but then you see the type of compasionate, awesome person he really is, and you can do nothing but feel the reasoning behind the love and insiration for the fighters and the sport. seldomTap 01-21-2003, 01:39 AM I have always been a Kerr fan, he is always very humble and gracious toward his opponents regardless of the result, which is one of the marks of a true champion in my eyes. I WISH I COULD SEE THIS SHOW Zen 02-09-2003, 02:46 PM I know this is old news, but I just saw THE SMASHING MACHINE for the first time last night. And it totally ****ing blew me away. Everything, from Kerr and his struggles, to Coleman's redemption and his little ass house in Columbus. Bas was great, I'd give anything to train with that man. This movie has totally changed the way I look at MMA. Also, I want to give props to HBO on a fantastic documentary. It was probably the most INTENSE tv show that I have ever seen it. If you haven't seen it yet, find a way, this is a MUST SEE for any serious mma fan. |
